I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question.
What kind of heels do you guys prefer (square, cone, spike..ect.)?
What kind do you recomend for a new dancer?

I didn't dance for very long (I'm on umm hiatus lol), but I ALWAYS preferred chunky heels. Of course, I've noticed on the 7 in and up heels "chunky" isn't very chunky at all, but it still has alot more support for me than spike. I would think cone would have more support too. I'm getting ready to move to spikes next... I think I'll be ready. Just try some on and see how you like them. Then wear them around for a bit until you get used to them. They seem to grow on you after a while.
Ok I bought some 7 in' spike clear plastic slip on's today (the owner talked me into them "oh your legs will look 10 times better!")
I can't ever wear these things for 7 min, I can't imagine doing it for 7 hours![]()
Do your feet stop hurting after some practice?
Or i'm I just going to have to deal w/ it? ( I don't think I can)
My two cents on the subject is that anything is fine except for the cone heels, cuz those can snap in an instant if you're not careful. As to shoes for a new dancer, I would suggest a pair each of black with straps and a clear pair, both around the five or six inch range.

you'll get used to it. all shoes have to be broken in, which is probably 80% of why they hurt. as for the rest, make sure you aren't stiff when you walk. your muscles work way harder than they need to and your feet land oddly, which makes it hurt more (not to mention it looks really bad). try wearing them around the house, repeatedly walking around and sitting for equal periods. it'll hurt, but it'll break the shoe in and get you used to walking in them.Originally Posted by lydia link=board=5;threadid=3298;start=msg39438#msg39438 date=1054750667
i'm of the opinion that a new dancer can start with pretty much anything as long as they practice a lot first. though...7" heels and especially the lack of an anklestrap will make it a lot harder. start out by just standing and feeling what your body wants to do, the stance. don't go against your body. don't clench your knees as you walk. you'll do it while you're getting used to balancing, but once you can, work on loosening up.
I prefer spikes myself. The chunky heels may be less intimidating and seemingly offer more support but I have found the spikes to be easier to dance in. The chunky heels have more surface area to grip so I feel as though I would be more likely to trip or catch when I dance while I wear them. Also the chunky heels encourage you to put more of your weight on your heel which makes dancing harder IMO, most of your weight should be on the ball of your foot like you are walking on tip toes. Cone is the same way.
I would not advise slip-ons if you are new to high heels. These offer less support around your ankle.
I would advise you to get a shoe with a strap around the ankle and if you do get spikes, if they are clear please make sure you can see the metal spike support inside the heel. Some dodgy makes do not have that metal spike and as a result the heels break in an instant. This happened to a dancer friend of mine back in the day, so now I pass this message on.

Practice practice practice, especially in the spikes! They are thin, so they don't have a great balance point, as opposed to a chunkier heel.
I prefer the 8 or 8.5 inch spike heel platforms. I think the extra weight of the platform helps you to keep the weight on your toes.
And definitely get the ones with the metal pieces inside. My favorites are Sunset Strip with the clear bottoms. I also think the ribs (or whatever they call them) makes the platforms look sexier. Something about the total see thru ones just doesn't look right to me. Makes them look fatter or something.
Here's my favorites right now:
I just did the math and figured out that if I wore 8 inch heels...i'd be 6'6!!!!!! Holy shite.

New girls should really start out in chunky heels. It is way easier. You can't be sexy if you are not comfortable. Also look for shoes that have a high platform so your foot isn't at such a drastic angle.
When you start ask if you can work some shorter shifts and also bring 2-3 pairs of shoes to change in and out of in order to give your feet a rest from a shoe that might rub the wrong way.
Definetely shoes with a strap around the ankle.
My first shoes were really chunky and even the toe part was wider. They were great. Only like five inches high.
It takes a long while to work up to 8 inch shoes. Personally I think they look silly, but I know a ton of girls love them so please don't get mad at me ladies. I am only 5'2''. So they really do look silly.

I started in 3 or 4 inch stilletos with no platform, which aren't as sexy as 6 inch spikes but you are probably more used to those types of shoes....
Then 6 inch spikes with straps. Now I like 6 inch cones, they offer more stability I think. I've never seen a cone break or snap off......
