Default List of favorite low fat snacks.

    Ok,
I read an old thread Leigh had posted way back where she mentioned some of her healthy snacks in a weight loss thread. She mentioned cucumbers, sugar free jello and crystal light. Thanks Leigh! I've found snacks helpful in maintaining my weight. I thought a list could help everyone. I know I often get bored with the same snacks in the fridge. So here's my list.

    -grapes
    -frozen grapes
    -pineapple chunks in natural juice
    -green apples
-frozen pops (@Sams Club, 25 cal. 0 from fat)
    -cucumbers

That's all I can think of right now

    tuna
    yoghurt (sp?)
    hard boiled eggs
    dried fish
    steak in little peices

what i try to do is every week chop up some veggies and some cooked steak in snack size peices and leave them in tupperware containers in the fridge. water is really the best though.

I'm a bodybuilder and an expert on dieting, and I can tell you that fruit is the worst thing you can eat because it is simple sugar-if anyone here wants diet help, please ask me and I'll help you

Fruit is not a simple sugar,,,It is low glycemic and will not cause an insulin spike. Rice cakes, baked potatoes, white bread and pasta are all high glycemic and will cause you to secrete insulin and store fat

sugar is sugar regardless of where you get it and if it is not burned off immediately the body stores it - AS FAT.

Fruit is a bajillion times better than processed candy crap so considerably a better health choice, considering the fiber factor and vitamin content.

They also have sugar free jello pudding now you make with skim milk - excellent treat- cures the chocolate craving (or butterscotch or vanilla), low fat, low carb, zero sugar treat!!!

Another great treat - fat free ranch dressing over fresh raw vegetables! (cucumbers fresh mushrooms zuchinni YUM)

I might wanna say - but I am sure everyone knows - just cause it says FAT FREE or LOW FAT does not mean its a conscientous choice, it may be loaded with sugar which is converted to fat for storage. Check how many carbohydrates as well while you are reading the label. Check the sodium too, who needs the bloat?

Even just a salad with low fat or no fat dressing is a great treat! You can get theose bags of salad already mixed with red cabbage iceburg lettuce & carrot shavings, quick no fuss salad, just dump some in a bowl and drizzle your fave zero fat dressing!

Just one tablespoon of cream adds 50 calories and six grams of fat.

You might want to use the low fat version of cool whip in the freezer section at the supermarket.

They have these new mega hand blenders that can actually whip SKIM MILK into a frothy cream!! Lightly sweeten prior to whipping with a packet of sweet n low.

Depending on your particular metabolism, it can be wise to watch your intake - every fat gram COUNTS, as does the calorie count.

Simply changing a few items in your diet over the long run- results in a gradual weight loss, even just simple stuff like choosing skim over whole milk, or sweeteners instead of sugar. Keeping your higher carbohydrate meals ingested in the earliest part of your day, dropping starches, and replacing them with healthier veggies (have broccoli instead of say...corn) Change white bread into whole grain or rye (I actually never even eat bread)
You hardly notice you are dieting inasmuch as making healthier choices.

    Happy healthy bodies for everyone!

I really like Mcdonalds new side salads (haven't tried the premium salads because I don't eat meat). The side salad is only $1 and has good lettuce and cherry tomatoes and I love the Newman's Light basalmic vinegrette dressing they have there. Delicious. Iususally get two side salads and use one packet of dressing between them and save the other packet for a salad at work.

umm cool whip is 25 calories for 2 tbsp and 1.5 grams of fat..

4 tbsp = 50 calories.. which is more then enough to fill me up on strawberries / cream

I think Leigh was talking about pure cream, which is obviously higher in both calories and fat content than CoolWhip.

However, they now make fat-free whipped cream! :o It's harder to find than the regular, but to me it's so worth it. I'm not a big fan of CoolWhip - it's just not the same to me - but I absolutely love whipped cream. The fat-free version tastes about the same as the regular. It's not quite as rich, of course, but still delicious. Anyhow, I try not to have it too often, but it is a nice treat from time to time. Just a suggestion for my fellow whipped cream lovers.

    Yup I was Amber, thanks!

I actually am really paranoid about every thing I consume, I didnt mean to push the issue, but if someone was really counting cals or fat like I do...well, thats all I meant anyway!

I too dont like cool whip - kinda fake oily sorta - weird!
Mind you not a big dairy fan to begin with, but thats just me.

I was gonna mention too that strawberries are a great treat in that well hell they are delicious but they are a natural diuretic, for anyone that tends to hold water?

Water pills being kinda dangerous cuz they can screw with your potassium, blah blah blah.

    Anyway nature's alternative!

I found these lovely vitamins from a company called advocare. They are listed on the internet if anyone is interested. My mother actually started taking them. They have all kinds of healthy stuff in them. My mom was s happpy with her results she became a distributor. They have all types of vitamins I take the daily ones. If anyone is interested in hearing more about them message me.

They are not herbal life and I am not trying to sell them! I just really like them and they are highly recomended by nonpaid spokes people.

Ashley, I love those! I've tried both the Detour bars and the U-turn bars and they were both delicious. They're filled with whey protein and have much less fat than your typical protein bar does. They are still pretty pricey, but much more reasonable if you buy them by the box instead of one at a time.

Brandi, I don't have any Randall's near me, so I don't know if you'd be able to find these there or not. I do know , though, that they are available at The Vitamin Shoppe and GNC. Around me, many stores have been having trouble keeping them in stock lately - they've been selling out bout as soon as they come in. You could always try ordering them, I guess.

I was just at the Supplemet store and saw the detour and thought YAY lets check this out - WHOA, it had 30 grams of fat in it?!! ZOINKS!

In comparison a snickers bar only has about 14 grams of fat!!!

Anyway I thought that was quite a high fat content for a health/fitness bar. Maybe they make different ones with a lower fat content? 30 grams is almost double my whole daily fat allowance! LOL!

I read thru the label on the back of the bar it also had 30 grams of protein which is great but not at the cost of all that fat.

Ah well, stick with my zero card zero fat protein shakes. Not as handy as a bar but nothing comes easy right?

Anabolic i am a little late responding to the post you sent in reply. Simple sugars are candy bars and such. Drinking apple juice, etc. Eating an apple forces the body to break down the "food', and in return you digest it slowly gaining nutrients from the fruit. I never drink fruit juice, it enters the blood stream to quickly, eating the friut is very healthy. If you have a health problem, diabetic, for example....You have to watch your intake. Vegetables and fruits are very important, but in moderation of course. Fruits like apples grapes are not considered "simple Sugars". Your candy is. Did you know a potatoe breaks down to "much" more sugar in the body and quickly. All foods break down, and we use them in all kinda of ways. Sugar is simply empty calories. Doing no good. But eating an apple has many benefits. Friut is great. Just try not to drink the fruit juices!
Pamela PS many "foods" are high in sugar. Fruits are not the villian, they are very healthy. Some may not know alot of food we eat breaks down to a portion of sugar in our bodies, all the time.
