What causes this? Is it poor circulation? Is there something I can do to help this, or is laser the only cure.

I think some of it might be genetics. Does your Mom/sisters/aunts have this problem also? Not sure what might help - sorry.
It's better to be looked over, than overlooked.
Yes, you can have the veins corrected through surgery, it only involves a needle, if you not afraid of them. I heard it 'can' be genetic. Think it's more of a lifestyle however. Standing all day puts a great amount of pressure on the legs and veins. If you are overweight, that contributes to the problem. As well as sitting for very long periods everyday. You do need to move the legs more often.
And call a dermatologist about them. They can be taken care of, and also you will find out what is causing your problem. Or can be, i do know many factors are the culprit.

Heredity a HUGE factor in these things! Aggravating by those high heels and standing great lengths of time etc.
And they can be removed, yup like Pamela said by needle - I think they inject a solution ( I think it was something simple too like a saline solution?) and the vein collapses to become invisible (its empty to blood in it it goes back to clear)
Short prick of pain and vein no more!
Just zip in get it down and there you go girl!![]()

Thanks guys,
I guess I'll schedule a consultation and find out how much the procedure costs per leg or per vein. I'm not scared of needles so that's a good thing.
Yes my mom has the veins as well I just didn't think I would get this this early at 24. Plus she has a few big veins mine are many little feathery veins.
I wonder if taking very hot showers has something to do with it?
No I dont think your hot showers are the culprit - more hereditary. (I hot shower too - HOT! Is there any other kind? hee hee)
Like grey hair - my dad went grey at 25 and my mom never went grey till she hit 55+, so my oldest brother whammo got the grey hair gene, and poof by 30 he was grey and the rest of us took after mom, no grey. Its weird - it happens and no worries, we have the means and the funds (as dancers we get all the vanity goodies eh?)
I wouldn't let it worry you and I have seen girls with them too, they just went and had them done, some girls just kept their tan quite dark and no one really sees them at all in the club only in harsh daylight or in the flourescent office type lights in dressing rooms.
If they do bother you I say get em done, its all about how YOU feel about them. You are primary, everything else is secondary.
Glad to hear you arent afraid of needles, they make me faint - for real.
Keep us posted on your experience if you do go in??

I have these. The broken capillaries, not the vericose veins. The saline injections CAN leave brown spots, and I don't know about the laser treatment except that it's available. Mine are more apparent because I'm fair skinned- fake tanning works wonders

varicose veins happen when the valve in the veins in calves in your leg, ankle and calf are faulty, thus preventing the blood flow causing the vein walls to push outward. Spider veins happens when the increased pressure cause more blood than usual to flow throught the smaller veins.
solutions include, exercising regularly, eating healthfully and maintaining your weight.
wear support panty hose
schreothereapy
have the veins treated when you see them before they get too big.
after a long night or day 's shift f i elevate my legs to help the blood circulate better and preventing them before they appear.
best of luck

I've heard heredity, and also being in hot water (i.e. bathtub, hot-tub) for long extended periods of time

I had the schlerotherapy (injections) done on my legs a few years ago, and although I was happy with the results at the time, my legs are a mess again now. I think if you are genetically predisposed, they just keep coming back, it's a temporary fix. I want to get mine done again, but last time I got it covered under medical, this time they won't cover it and it's expensive.
One thing to keep in mind is that you will bruise from the procedure, and it's not pretty. I bruise fairly easily anyway, but my legs were completely covered in ugly bruises for a good 2-3 weeks. Probably a good idea to schedule the procedure when you can afford to take some time off work.
I have heard that the results from laser treatment are not nearly as good, with a much higher incidence of recurrance. A friend of mine had the laser treatment done on a small broken capilliary type mark just beneath her nose, and it faded for only a short time before reappearing.
My varicose veins aren't dark, but they are very similar in look to male body builders when they get those raised veins on their forearms! Both my Mum and Dad have these, and also smaller capillary veins... Grrr.
I do a few things: Try to keep your weight down, less weight, less pressure on vein walls. Elevate your feet for a few minutes a day, and try to keep changing position when you can if your in heels all day! ie flex, stretch calf muscles, elevate, etc etc.
Horse Chestnut is a wonderful herb specifically for strengthening vein walls and this has been very helpful to me!
Not sure if my bigguns can get zapped or injected, they may actually need to strip them, so for me prevention is my best cure, and hope I can keep them from getting worse!
and i remember that my legs are really long and fucking sexy as they are!

my mom has gotten the injections a few times (they are saline). she was really happy with the results, but if the affected area is large it can take several treatments.
I always heard that they could be caused by standing on your feet for long hours. Not sure if that is an old wife's tale or what. Of course genetics is always the biggest factor.
My mom has had these treatments, and they were VERY cheap where she lives. She is very happy with the results.
Sorry if it's a stupid question, but where do you get the saline treatments done at? Just a doctor's? Salon? Cosmetic surgeons??

^^^ I would assume a dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon.

A friend's father (who's a coach and used to be a personal trainer) told her that working out with weight, might cause the veins. That actually explained the reason why I got veins after I started working out with a trainer. I don't know if that's true, but just in case, I don't lift any weight with my legs anymore.

^^ I love lifting heavy weights with my legs. My legs look awesome!

Um... are these veins dangerous to your health in any way. Like. can't the blood clot in that pooled area and loosen after a while, and possibly block blood flow in some place important and cause a stroke? My mom has really scary ones, and I've been kinda worried about this, because I think I remember reading something like that. But, I read all kinds of things daily, so I may be confusing it with something else. Ayone know for sure?
