I can not deal with this club smoke!!!! Everyday I come home from work feeling shittier and shittier. My throat hurts and I cant breath. For the girls that dont smoke do any of you have this problema nd what do you do about it? Im starting to worry that exposing myself to this poison will cause throat or lung cancer eventually. write back

I too am a non-smoker and can't stand coming home smelling like smoke everynight. Numerous studies have shown that second hand smoke can contribute to diseases caused by the nasty chemicals present in smoke, so it is very likely that you or I may eventually get a "smoker's disease." As much as it sucks, there isn't too much you can do aside from working somewhere smoking is not allowed (ie, not a bar). I know that some areas of the country are starting to ban smoking in bars, but it will be a very long time before it is a nationwide thing. What is especially bad is when you are sitting with a customer who is smoking, and the smoke just seems to keep migrating to your face. Most of the time when this happens, I will wave the smoke away from my face and the customer will either move the ashtray or put the cigarette out. But at the end of the night I still go home smelling like an ashtray. :-/

When I began working in clubs the smoke bothered me for about a week. Most clubs have a ventilation system to decrease the amount of smoke which actually just floats in the air. Ask ur manager about the ventilation system or ask the other girls if more smoke than normal seems to be bothering them as well. If its not bothering them either, then perhaps you've simply not become accustomed to it.
However, if you do not feel that you can acclimate yourself to the level of smoke perhaps you should explore another employment option. Hope it helps.

I don't smoke and can't stand smoky clubs.

On a doctor's appointment once I was told to take 2 400iu capsules of Vitamin E daily to help combat the effects of it on my body.

Yeah sometimes by the end of the night my eyes are watering! It sucks but its just one of the hazards of the job. Theres really not anything you can do about it.

The worst is when you get a customer smoking a cigar!! Ugh, makes me wanna gag just thinking about it.

I have trouble with club smoke too, even though I will occasionally have a cigarette. It's just so awful at times. And yeah, it would be hard to avoid. However, I hear clubs in New York will soon be smoke free due to a new law that is being passed.

There's not much you can do about the smoke, except get used to it or work in another field. It is simply a hazard of working in clubs, but I think Vitamin E helps like Tina said. I take it also. I think it generally takes several years before diseases from second-hand smoke start cropping up, but you never know. It is possible that if you're really having a hard time with the smoke that you either have some allergy or slight asthma. If it continues, go to a doctor and see what they say.

Smoking seems to be banned from almost all bars in the Kitchener-Waterloo area of Ontario, including strip joints. There are campaigns to make it province-wide and nation-wide. So you could always consider working on this side of the border.... There are also many clubs in the US that refuse to allow dancers to smoke (or they cannot smoke on the floor), because they are trying to cater to a more upscale clientele. Since there is frequently less second-hand smoke in those clubs, that might be a little easier on your health...

Take lots of antioxidants - Vit E, stacks of Vit C and other antioxidant formulas.

Consider buying an air purifier and putting it in your bedroom so that whilst you sleep you can at least have clean air.

I need to do all of this for living in Hong Kong. The air here and pollution levels are awful, particularly after coming from my beloved home in Australia.

Smoke not only adversely affects my respiratory system, it also causes my acid reflux to worsen considerably! As a result, I only work 1-2 shifts per week now, and even then, I wake up the following morning feeling absolutely decimated.
GNC makes an ultra-potent vitamin supplement that contains high levels of anti-oxidants, plus beneficial ingredients such as echinacea, bee pollen, bioflavonoids, etc -- it's called Ultra Mega Green, and it is undoubtedly the greatest weapon against toxicity on the market today.
All clubs in California are non-smoking, NYC will be non-smoking as of April, and Mons Venus in Tampa is n/s, as well

I was always told growing up that my continously getting sick was due to my moms smoking. Well now it bothers me only a little. i come home evry night with my clothes smelling really bad and my eyes so red that it looks like i am a 24/7 drunk! lol Every job has some side of abd effects but I mean if it bothers you too much you might want to stop or only do it about once or twice a week! Hope it gets better for you!

I just came home from a shift and I feel like there is smoke trapped in my lungs. It has come to the point where i am afraid that if i stay in this line of work - I could possibly develop a throat cancer (or lung cancer) type disease. Maybe I am just being over paranoid.....I know deep down that no amount of money is worth risking my health for. I guess i could make it for a little while if I didnt work..(not comfortably)..but I know I would miss both the job flexibility (which i REALLY need) and the money. PLus what other job does time fly by really fast? It doesnt even feel like you are working. I would ask my DR. but it is not like anyone can predict cancer.....Should I grin and bear the sore throat and cough I get from work temporarily? Or just quit and worry about what to do next for work later....Thank you.

    Default SMOKE SUX

For me it's not the breathing, having grown up w/2 chain smokers as parents, it's my damn eyes. They're sensitive, I'm wearing contacts which irritates them enough as it is, and then the smoke! Any tips on a particular brand of eyedrops or SOMETHING?

Geez, I've never stepped inside a club but I imagine it must be smokey as hell. I can hardly stand one person smoking let alone a whole room. I guess the only thing you can do is be really careful about your other health habits. Take various antioxidant formulations (I like GNC) besides the standard Vitamins A, C, and E.

I'm a "never smoker" - someone who has never smoked and never will... I also can't wait for the day when even just one SC around here will advocate that "No dancer shall smoke whilst "on the floor" " rule I've heard about...

Unfortunately for me.. it isn't only the customer's smoke I have to put up with but the dancers as well.

None-the-less... I try to have a nice cup of tea or three whilst working so I'm having some anti-oxidants whilst working in THAT environment.

    HEre's what I do:

    1. take an antioxidant vitamin. I do so before or after working, and NOT on other days. The rest of the time I eat healthy.

    2. if they leave the cigarette smoking in the ashtray, just be really polite and ask to move the ahstray to the other side of the person. blame the air conditioning vent or something.

    3. I don't care how exhausted I am, I wash it out of my hair immediately upon returning home (I can't sleep with my face in it!) and put a retinol/vitamin C face cream on/drink TONS of water, etc.
