Default Is it better to shave or wax when self-tanning?

I use self-tanner once in a while and I noticed that whenever I have to shave my legs again, that the blade takes some of the upper skin cells with it, and it leaves my tan all blotch and patchy.

Do you find it more effective to shave or wax when using self tanner, and does waxing "screw up" the tan?

I do know that you are supposed to shave and exfoliate prior to applying self tanner, but sometimes I want to shave a few days after applying the self-tanner so I can be smooth. Thanks for any input.

I have been using very small amounts of self tanner on my face. Apples of my cheeks, nose chin. All the places the sun hits. It looks great! I do have to smear it out some, or i will get the streaked look.
It does look like my face got a some sun.
I have learned the key to self tanner it to exfoliate every night. Take off the dead skin that the tanner is sticking too. Then i re-apply in the morning. It does take time to do the whole body, and not get streaks, exfoliate, and blend well. I only slightly do my face now. But i had streaking. Start with small amounts, and let it dry. Work up to more, and let it dry. It's better done in steps, then you can make it darker where needed, or fix a streak. These products do scrub off however, so you can start over. I use a alpha hydroxt scrub. Skin consatantly sheds, so you have to start with a clean scrubbed body.
Shave! It's what you should do, that removes the dead skin hanging on too. Re-apply tanner.

SHAVE SHAVE SHAVE....It also helps to exfoliate your skin, which is great for sunless tanner. Don't slack on the real exfoliation, though. I use the Neutrogena exfoliater and foam tanner(no streaks, and it goes on much more even. Cheap, too!)

I'd say wax before applying the self-tanner. My worst memory of self-tanning was shaving my cootch a few days after self-tanning- going down the inside thighs a bit it would take off the tan and make me look like I had a skin disease down there! Blech.

If you've exfoliated well enough, the shaving isn't supposed to be a problem. Maybe you can use a dipilatory cream? or re-apply tanner?

Shave before tanning, but make sure your legs have enough time to adequately dry after you bathe because it seems to clog up in the folicles.
