Default Vitamin E, can you overdose?

I'm curious if you take too much vitamin E will a side effect occur. I usually take my daily multi-vitamin and pop 3-4 vitamin E pills if I have a cut or blemish, 1,000 i.u. each pill. My daily intake is usually just one E pill daily. Will my body become immune? How much do ya'll take?

You Bet ya! VItamin E is fat soluble. Some people take 1,000mg a day. I would not go any higher. Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and i hear overdosing is pretty rare. But at the same time we are not deficient either with just taking a multivitamin.
E is very good for the heart as many other parts of the body, too much interferes with blood clotting i hear as well.
Do a google search, read up on the vitamin, it's a good one but stored in the body, so i would ask the pharmacy about a high dosage.

PS no your body would not become immune, but sounds like at times you may be taking a very high dosage, 1,000 a day with a multivitamin does the trick for health. Again, ask the pharmacist.

Vitamin E is another vitamin that is often mistreated. There are extreme side effects of consuming more than the body can absorb. The body’s system only needs one hundred to three hundred milligrams of vitamin E per day. There are vitamin supplements on the market that are sold to help grow nails and hair. These are often abused, you need only to take one tablet per day, and consume at least eight glasses of water per day. If an overdose of vitamin E occurs it could cause blood clots, fatigue, tumors in the breast, and reproductive problems.

If high doses are continually taken there is a risk of stomach upsets and abdominal pain, and disruption of absorption of other fat soluble vitamins into the body. If you take Vitamin E at more than 1000 mg then you increase possible bleeding.

vitamin a,e,and e (the antioxidents) are severly depleted in our bodies because :

    1) our damaged intestines only absorb about 25% of the nutrients we out in pur bodies due to yeast and parasite overgrowth, due the the terrible quality of foor sold in this country. I'm talking about fat, preservatives, msg, partially-hydrogenated oils, hormones, nitrates, chlosterol, antibiotics in food, ect. Some of these coat your intestines preventing proper absorbtion of nutrients such as vitamin E

    2) pollution in our air and water.

both these factors cause the human body to perform in a way NOT intended by nature. Our bodies are basically "dumps" polluted by chemicals. think about it, companies give us drugs to fix stuff wrong with our bodies caused by the chemicals and drugs in the food we eat.

Did you know that with a diet of organic fruits, vegrtables and nuts there would be no allergies, colds, FAT PEOPLE, acne, bad skin, bad hair, baldness, cancer, bad teeth, heartburn, indigestion, FATIGUE, and every other ailment and disease you can think of.

Why do we have 10 times as much cancer in this country than japan ? Because they understand that if you want to live an energetic, disease free life, you must give the body what it needs. sorry, but even most "health" food in this country has "inedible" ingrediants like partially hydrogenated oils and preservatives.

ENJOY YOUR VITAMIN E, AND TAKE A LITTLE EXTRA, YOU NEED ALL THE AMMUNITION AVAILABLE AGAINST THIS COUNTRY OF CHEMICALS.

here is an exerpt about the HUNZA people, the healthiest people in the world.

Hunza diet Additionally, people are searching for ways to increase their longevity and to lose excess weight. What better way than to combine essential oils with the diet of the well-known Hunzas in the Kashmir Valley in India, who live between 120 and 140 years and die of old age (not degenerative diseases like Westerners), and have no obesity. They eat whole, unprocessed foods (grains, vegetables, beans, fruits, nuts, seeds and only occasionally meat or dairy - about 1% of their calories come from animal products), and very little oil or flour. I feel that their diet is very close to a vegan diet and their society is a perfect example of what can happen to a race who eat minimal or no animal products.

Hmmm several arguments could be presented on behalf of meat eating, heres some suggested reading?
    Eat right for your type.
Not all people can ingest the same diet - it traces back to origins and reviews blood types for certain regions of the world - such as the hunters or the gathers, locales etc.

Just thought I would offer that up.

This is what the Cecil's Textbook of Medicine has to say about Vitamin E. (I can translate any medical terminology upon request.)

DEFICIENCIES: Deficiency due to dietary inadequacy rare in developed countries. Usually affects premature infants, individuals with fat malabsorption, and persons with abetalipoproteinemia. RBC fragility can produce hemolytic anemia. Neuronal degeneration produces peripheral neuropathies, ophthalmoplegia, and destruction of posterior columns of the spinal cord. Neurologic disease frequently irreversible if deficiency is not corrected early enough. May contribute to hemolytic anemia and retrolental fibroplasia in premature infants.

TOXICITY (from too much Vitamin E): Can cause depressed levels of vitamin K-dependent procoagulants and potentiation of oral anticoagulants have been reported, as has impaired leukocyte function. Doses of 50 IU/d may slightly increase the incidence of hemorrhagic stroke.

... Basically it is rare to have Vit. E deficiency in modern society unless you have absorption problems (or are anorexic/bulemic probably).

Overdose can cause you to bleed more often with slower clotting to stop bleeding. Taking more than 50 IU/day puts you at risk for a bleed in your head (hemorrhagic stroke).

In general, most vitamins are harmful if taken in excess.

Yes u can overdose. It says so right on the bottle if they come in pill form. It is possible but rare. Just be careful. Don't want to end up the rare, but possible case.
