    Default Japanese straightening

    Hey all..
booked an appointment at a salon to get my hair straightened via the Japanese Thermal straightening system. I have naturally curly hair, but straighten it with a flat iron almost every day! I'm Asian/Caucasian and although I like my hair, it gets frizzy when I don't treat the curls right. Plus, I'd love to just shower, blow dry (quickly) and go. Anyone else ever had this treatment? Supposedly it's not as unhealthy for your hair as other treatments, but it takes 5-6 hours (but lasts for about 6 months atleast!) I'll let you all know how it goeS!

I did the Japanese straightening to my hair.... my hairdresser did it for just $200. I love it. My hair is really thick so it used to be close to impossible to straighten it... now it just takes 10 minutes!!

I did it about two months ago. My hairdresser said it should last about 8 months for me since my hair is curly at the ends and not all over. Most of the time it's supposed to last about 6 months I think.

Wow I'd like more info on this because I have a friend at work who fries her hair trying to straighten it - it's REALLY curly and this might work for her. Where can I find more info?

I couldn't do it, because my hair is partially highlighted and although it is curly and I have a lot of it, it is fine. I had my hair chemically straightened once and then went to Cabo San Lucas to live and dance. I also, surfed and hung out on the beach a lot and did all kinds of snorkeling, swimming and wave running. I had my hair highlighted on top of that. To make this story shorter, I had five pieces falling off the ends of my hair and the end of three months. My hair would now be almost as long as Pamela's if I hadn't ruined my hair and have to have it cut off.

Here is my question: Why does everyone want to straighten their hair?

I prefer a little bit of wave to mine

    Cheers,

    Corey

my girlfriend has a ceramic hair straightener, they are about 120, you can get them on ebay. they work good, thats what you're paying 200 for in the salon.

    Hey BebeBabiez,
I did it and my hair looks great now! I'm sooo happy. My hair looks natural and healthy. Bad points: a little expensive (can cost up to $100/hour), it takes a loooong time if you have long hair (it took me 8 hours!). Also, in my case, I still have to blow dry my hair (or flat iron) every time I wash it. But now it takes me ten minutes and before it took me like two hours(!!!).
I'm definetly happy 'cause it makes my hair straight without looking fake.
If you have color or other chemestry in your hair, you have to wait for three months before you make the japanese straightening.
Let me give you a tip: shop around before you do it. I saw some hair dressers using a look alike product and charging the same price. The product that my hair dresser used was called Bionic, and he said it's the original one.
If you live in Florida I could give you the hair dresser phone#.
    Good luck!

I confess that I too have been cursed by cosmetic commercialism. I have curly and often frizzy hair, I of coarse want smooth straight hair. Who wouldn't, except those with striaght, smooth hair ..... they want it curly :-/ . I own a Farouk Chi ceramic hair iron ( the industy standard ) and a tube of Flat out . It take's about 10 or 15 minute's and I have the flattest softest hair in the world. Oh and of coarse where it used to stop just past my shoulder's, it will after straightening hit the middle of my back . I've tried chemical treatment's and I just got my hair burned, I'm also a bottle strawberry blonde, usually much darker red with a little .... ok alotta dust on the roof

There is a stylist who comes into the dressing room to do our hair and she uses this system in her shop. My hair is already fairly straight but I usually iron it to make it more sleek and I had her use just the ionic flat iron on my hair. omg my hair was like glass so so shiny and incredibly soft too. I wanted to buy an ionic iron after that but she said they cost like $400 and she wasn't even sure you can buy just the iron as it is part of the Japanese straightening kit.

I found the ionic iron to be superior to the ceramic iron.

ok I just found the brochure in my work bag the system is called "Bio Ionic".

haha checked out the site right now for the first time. Saw the iron I want they call it an Ion Retexturizing Iron. It's patented, sold exclusively in salons, and there's no suggested retail price. Ouch it's gotta be pricey. Definately not an iron you take to work and leave in the dressing room.

I'm a little confused by this iron. Does this not use heat? is this the process the salons use? just the iron? and this lasts 6+ months?

no Emily. The iron is part of the straightening kit. Various products they put into your hair. Check out the site it will explain in better detail. The claim to fame is that negative ions are good for you. The ionic flat iron does use heat. It just made my hair look even glossier than using a ceramic iron which is why I fell in love with it.

The process is actually permanent (they say). But they suggest going in every 6 months to get your regrowth done.

Holy shit you can buy the straightening system on Ebay for $59.00!

Keep in mind though that this process can take up to 8 hours and I'm not too sure how comfortable I would feel doing it without any cosmetology experience. But if anybody decides to go this route let us know how it works out!

I'm gonna keep my eyes open for the ionic flat iron on ebay. I feel like a commercial but seriously, it is AWESOME.
