    Default Double Standards?

    Hello...I was just curious...
I am a male who has always wanted to be a stripper. My problem is this. When women strip, they want men to accept thier bodies as they are. Why do men have to be in perfect shape?
Maybe double standard isnt the right word but I am just confused. I love to be as sexy to women as they are to me. I am not a bad looking man but am not a muscle builder either. What can I do?

I guess this is just dependent upon the region in which you work, and the clientele for which you perform. Personally, I could not care less if a male stripper is in perfect shape or a body builder, solong as he obviously tries to take care of himself.

That being the case, I am not really sure what advice to offer you. If you feel there is room for improvement, maybe you should make an appointment with a personal trainer. Talk to registered dietitian about dietary improvements. Etc, etc, etc..

Hi there Jawbne, i have danced a few times in the past for the female/male review. Now i sometimes just go watch them dance. For us females, (some of us,) we think we should have nice tits, long legs and beautiful hair, what to wear ect. Yes! We do worry about appearance, alot. But we don't have to worry about having ripped abs, or muscles. It's just the difference between males and females. The beauty behind it all. Yes, we do want men to accept our bodies for the way we look, because sometimes we can't change parts of our body we would like too.( money, fear, ect.) Im not saying it's easier for you. It's not. You can build muscle and get fit quickly. (some guys, not all) We have to worry about cellulite and sagging breasts. We would love for you guys to accept us for what we look like while dancing, yes. And i think if a guy is not all muscles, but can shake that thing, it's damn sexy!!! Me personally i don't like big buff guys, i am more attracted to a guy who is taller than me,( i am 5'7" Maybe 8",) and thin. No ass fine. Works it off having SEX. Lol.

Nope i will take an average looking guy anytime. Because most of us are average looking ladies. Pamela
On another note...Alot of male dancers are built up, thats the look they tend to look for alot of the time. It all goes back to the young skinny weakling on the beach loses the girl for the muscle bound guy thing. Stupid.

The other ladies were right to say that it depends on your region. I would also like to point out that even though women across the board would like men to accept their bodies just as they are, exotic dancers work especially hard to look better than the average woman. The average US woman wears a size 12-14 dress. Now I don't know what the statistics are for exotic dancers, but guessing by the sizes that dance wear clothing companies make I would say the average exotic dancer is probably a 4-6 dress size. I personally am a 6. Exotic dancers probably get plastic surgery more often than the average US woman (I have never worked at a club where none of the dancers have ever had any work done). We hire personal trainers more often, we diet more often and sometimes dancers use drugs to control their weight. Most dancers (60-70%) use some form of herbal energy pills to control weight and increase energy at work, and many of us smoke to control appetite. So yes, dancers want men to accept their bodies as they are because we work very hard to look as good as we do (even if the effort isn't the healthiest).

You also have to look at the other side of this double standard coin. Historically men have had power to control money, government, business and most aspects of society. Women only had power over sex. This was a huge power over men, and men were willing to pay women to provide sexual stimulation, thereby transferring some power to women who provided release to their sexual urges. It is only within the last 20 years or so women have expierenced a similar freedom (although not equal) in American society.

So here is my point... Although some women are willing to pay for sexual entertainment, they want the most they can get for their dollar. So if you get hooked up with an agency that has male dancers who look like Vin Diesle and the like, and you look more like a 14 year old boy in build, you may not get much work. Male exotic dancing for women is still a novelty, and may continue to be that way for the next 10 years or so.

Now, if you wish to perform for gay men, the young boy look would really work and earn you a lot of money. My husband is a dancer, and he has performed for gay men (he is totally straight) and he makes so much more money than dancing for women. So if you are looking for a career option this might be the better way to go.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

I agree with the above posts. As long as you put a little effort into your appearance you should do fine.

Oh, and Paris has a point. I would like people to accept me how I look because I work damn hard to look this way.

I spend at least 10 hours a week working out and doing various other beauty treatments. I believe most dancers probably spend as much time on their appearance, therefore a little appreciation of our efforts is very nice, thank you.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! Pardon me, but I HAVE to laugh when a man complains about a double standard!

Come on dude, women experience all sorts of crappy double standards every day, so maybe you can understand if we feel free to indulge in creating one of our own

And you're wrong to say that we expect men to accept us as we are - the vast majority of us do all sorts of things to accommodate male standards of female beauty. Maybe we're not all work-out freaks, but we do try to keep in good shape, and face it: most men don't think so much of muscles as part of female beauty. There is hair, face, boobs, butt, eyes, lips, hips, feet, nails, all sorts of things. With men, it's all about the beefcake baby, so hit the gym if you want to be a stripper!

hmmm- here in Canada we have a whole whack of reviews, 4 or more men in extremely fine muscular shape and looks...check in with a couple websites or mens clubs, there are mens dance clubs too but a good number being geared towards gay clientele. Like Remingtons in Toronto, and many in Montreal etc but heres a website www.fantasy-male.com write them and ask some questions maybe they would be better prepared on answers.

Hey Jawbone, everyone wants others to accept their bodies as they are! If you are fat or skinny, tall or short you'd wish others would admire your stature. The thing people desire about beauty is the opportunities it brings. Getting good job offers, finding the best partners
    etc.
Many industries are based on fallacies. The porn industry that capitalizes on men with large penises attracting more females while most women would see it as an abnormality or security services hiring massive bouncers that can't control a disturbance worth beans. Likewise with the male strip scene. With exception of the gay community most agencies hire men with buffed , athletic profiles although women patronize them for the novelty, most would not consider bringing them home to Mom. In my opinion , they can't dance worth beans.
True ,the double standard has a lot to do with it. But the double standard is one that society agrees upon. It's just that way. After all, it's not an eye for an eye. The penalty for a man raping a woman is not a woman raping a man back.
What is considered sexy or desireable depends upon the society. In nature it is the male who is the aluring. It's the peacock with the bright feathers not the peahen. Unless society casts it's monetary vote for truly skilled performers it pretty much remains a fallacy based industry.
If you truly seek to be a stripper then the market shouldn't deter you. You can still dance sexily at clubs but only down to modestly clad attire. It shouldn't detract any fun from the activity.
Yeah, stripping is my fantasy as well at a limited number of institutions.

i dont ever want to see a male strip club for the simple reason of that.... i dont go for those over buff "neck thicker than head" guys... or guys w/ huge pecks... it creeps me out. i like a natural, sexy guy... who can smile, with pretty eyes... and many of my girlfriends agree.

I think at 5'9 a man should weigh around 210-220 of ripped muscle to be a dancer-I will be that size within 2 months so maybe i can become a dancer?

What i've noticed with male dancers is that they shave their whole body, arms, back, everything. You never feel the skin but the stubble. Womens hair doesn't grow back as fast or as course. These men should seriously invest in laser hair removal if they're gonna stay in the biz or continue shaving. Another thing what's the deal with most dancers having that long hair Fabio look? I like the clean cut man myself.

Women can buy a beautiful chest, men on the other hand have to work for it. It's an even trade, we deal with more b.s.

I have actually seen statistics that a very large proportion of silicon implants are for MEN, LOL.

I was watching TLC and saw a few guys who had surgery to enhance their appearance. Two of them had ab muscles and pec muscles implanted via silicone, I believe. Most of the others were for lyposuction.

I think there isn't as big of a market for male dancers and that is why women are just going to the shows that are available with overly buff guys.

If the market became as wide-spread and large as the gentlemen's clubs there would be more variety in the appearance of the guys.

Jenny, you're damn right about the male strip market. The other reason there isn't that much variety is the stereotype of male stripper.
In Japan Geisha girls paint their skin white and roll their hair into a bun because they are imitating a legendary porceline doll that came to life. Of course no poceline doll ever came to life but that is how the people defined beauty in that time.
So it is with the male dancers. They all take on this big, buffed, youthful look because that is the stigma placed upon them. If you asked me I'd say they were behind the times and should develop into a true art form.
