best things you could eat would be chicken breast no skin, fresh carved turkey breast no skin, depending on your body and whether or not you lift weights you could eat a sweet potato or 1/2 cup oatmeal with the chicken or turkey. another good idea is to drink a whey protein shake(isopure zero carb is best)-if you lift weights, you could add a banana to the shake-

I'm a big fan of the Lean Cuisine meals, the portions are perfect and tasty. Stay away from the Healthy Choice meals they suck. Subway is also good every once in a while, just stay away from the cookies.

subway is only good if you are trying to bulk up which most female dancers are not trying to do-otherwise it's very bad

I guess most of what I eat doesn't technically fit the definition of a meal... I tend to have a banana with a scoop of peanut butter, or kashi cereal, for breakfast with one cup of milk, tuna or steak peices sometimes with steamed veggies for lunch, and fish or hamburger or tuna for dinner usually with a handful of sunflower seeds... and in between I snack on veggies and steak bits and the occasional orange or handful of nuts.

Does anyone know how to prepare wheatgrass? It's supposed to have more anti-oxidents than any vegetable of it's bulk.

I am such a weird eater anyway and LOVE protein in its many forms, beef chicken fish turkey nuts yoghut etc etc SO everything I eat when watching my weight usually centers around the protein aspect of the meal, and the only carbs I ingest are of fibrous variety. Vegetables and more vegetables.
But I do end up needing a treat and I buy all kinds of non fat or low fat salad dressings and drizzle it lightly on a huge primarily lettuce or spinach leaf salad (just the lettuce or just the spinach leaf), the crispy cold fresh keeps that munchy monster at bay for me.
I know that sounds boring, but remembering you "eat to live" not that you "live to eat" will keep some perspective.

TAKE your supplements! I find weight loss is never as successful as when coupled with the right vitamins and minerals.

For breakfast I like to have a couple pieces of toast (not white bread, preferably wheat or a diet bread that has smaller pieces) with a little bit of of Brummel and Brown apples and cinnamon spread on it. Don't add too much or it's not too good for you. But if you only eat two pieces and make sure you have only one serving of the spread on the toast, you won't gain weight.

I used to be vegan as a pre-teen, and if you can get used to it, soy milks and almond milks are a lot healthier compared to regular 2% or skim milks from cows. I admit, they leave a funny taste in your mouth, but since you only have 5 lbs to go you could probably manage. I eat a lot of dairy for some reason, so if you need to cut back, anything in the health food section for vegans and vegetarians is almost always healthier than what you normally find in the grocery. Just make sure you read the nutritional info.

If you save the "yummy" stuff (i.e. anything that tastes good, lol, and also breads and pastas) for early in the day and make sure you get enough exercise, you'll do well.

I also make a pasta salad that's pretty healthy. It's completely vegan (unless you substitute tofu for small pieces of chicken). First you get some whole wheat pasta, not the long sticks but the twirly noodles. You cook it until it's soft and drain. Then you chop up red pepper (it's really sweet) along with some onion and add a little cooked tofu or chicken strips in small pieces to spice it up. Just shake it up, add a TEENSY (and I mean really small, cause it's not very healthy) bit of oil with your favorite spices mixed in. I think I used cumin and coriander, but I don't remember since it's been a long time since I ate this. Make sure you get it mixed just right, add a little sweet vinegar if you want, pour it on the salad and mix it up. Perfect meal, and not unhealthy either (unless you put tons of the oily stuff in).

I know half of this stuff (by the standards of everyone who posts here) wouldn't be considered "healthy", but when I stick to eating stuff like that I usually lose 2-3 pounds a week. And make sure you don't COMPLETELY deprive yourself of sweets. I have a cheat meal once a week where I have something sweet (grapes, half a cup of ice cream, etc.) when I'm really craving it. It helps so you don't end up pigging out when your body gets bored with the healthy stuff.

    My thoughts exactly, Leigh.
Personally, I don't buy into the whole "lower fat is better" diet. If I eat entirely fat-free, I tend to get hungry more, and it sucks. I'm also a vegetarian and run back and forth campus all day, so going on a starvation-style diet has and will cause me to lose my muscle, not my fat. I generally try to replace at least one meal a day with a Powerbar/SlimFast bar and a ton of water or ultra-weak Crystal Light, enough to make it taste differently than water but not mixed full strength according to the package. The more water I slug down, the fuller I feel, and the better my skin and hair look because I'm not dehydrated. It also makes my periods a whole lot easier; I bleed a little more but I cramp up less.

Oh and by the way, my extra weight is not due to overeating but to a metabolic disorder, miss know-it-all.

Look, I don't want to turn this into a flame war, but she has a point, J. The fact is, you posted a few days ago asking about how to lose weight, so it would make sense that we're a little skeptical about the weight loss advice that you have to give us. Also, I posted what I considered to be a pretty helpful post with a lot of suggestions in response to you, and you pretty much replied with "Well, yeah, but I'm not gonna do that." Okay. You won't go to a doctor. You won't go to a psychiatrist. You won't do the exercises I've suggested, even if they bore you. And lemme say, honey, that I'm bored to death with a lot of the exercises I do....but I continue to do them. You keep ignoring the advice people on here are giving you with what I consider to be pretty lame excuses. Game over, on my end. I've stopped responding to your posts. I'm sorry if you're offended, but Leigh's point is an extremely valid one.

I think you misunderstood me in those posts. I actually said that I DO go to a psychiatrist, and my old psychologist sucked cause she always assumed things and came to a conclusion about something before asking me what I thought. I also think I said that I do try some of the things you suggested, so, sorry if you misconstrued what I was saying. My exercise daily is running up the stairs 50 plus times a day, and lifting 30 pound books at work as weights.

Just because I have a weight problem does not mean I know nothing about weight loss. When I "binge" it's usually a bag of grapes or a bowl or two of Total with sugar on it. It's not like I eat a pint of Ben and Jerry's every night. I do eat pretty healthy foods; it just doesn't help much considering slow metabolism and my constant medical need for body sugar. That's what I was trying to get at when I asked for tips: exercises a fat chick with hypothyroidism can do without killing herself. I understand you were overweight at some time too. Half my life I was VERY weight conscious and stick thin. I remember back in 97 when I got on the scales and cried because I weighed 110! :o So, basically what I'm saying is that my body sends out a message more like "I'm weak, borderline anemic, with slow metabolism and I have no energy" rather than "I'm lazy, I don't want to exercise, I pig out on bon bons and Baskin Robbins ice cream all day, and I'm hopeless!"

So sorry if you misunderstood my replies to your messages. I did listen to your ideas and I think they're great. And maybe in return you can give me a little more credit about my weight loss tips? I may not be stick thin and I don't claim to know everything, but I've learned quite a bit about dieting over the past 5 or so years.

Oh, and one more thing, I don't try to use my medical conditions as excuses. My line of thinking is that if I ever lost weight, maybe my metabolism and anemia wouldn't be so unbearable every day. Right now I'm in bad shape due to this crap, and I'm sick of it, and I want to be skinny and healthy again. I'm going to the doctor in a week to see if she has any suggestions about exercise for people with endocrine problems. Maybe she'd know; after all, she's a doctor.

Dreamer, put wheatgrass in the blender and drink it. If you have a juicer it's good with carrots and/or beets.
