    Default nailcolors

Do you think darker nailcolors make your hands and feet appear 'older'?

Do you think a girl in her thirties that wears funky nailcolors like blue or purple looks stupid?

Do most guys seem to like the classic french manicures, pinks and red colors instead of the darker colors?

i only started dancing about a month ago... but i have been using sally hason's color chrome... its a silver mettalic on both my hands and feet. i bought this due to the fact that my clear shoes which go w/ practically everything have a small area on the strap of silver... so therefore no matter what color dress i wear i always coordinate my shoes w/ at least one thing (my nails). the silver color also is highly reflective under the stage lights and looks good when i run my hands around my body.... just a suggestion.

Light colours brighten up anything, including nails.
While a deep pink may look funny, a light colour with a hint of pink will look great on women beyond 20.
I am 32, and don't wear polish, but looking at other womans hands, dark is not a colour 30ish woman look too good in.
It simply draws attentio to any lines or spots you may have on your hand. Not to mention chipped polish..YUK.

Light reflects. And dark draws attention. For example if you want attention drawn to your breasts, wear a darker chain.

Want attention drawn to your face, have black hair, and that colour will make every wrinkle we may get in the future stand out.

Me, now that i am in my 30's, stick with lighter colours for nails,~ (natural) feet, hair, and jewlery, makeup. Clothes make a difference too. but thats a different story. I love black simply because it makes my hair stand out, and it's a power colour. While red washes me out.
But i really look good in a nice light blue.
PS....NO pastels! leave that for the kids.

It's a pain when you have a new french manicure and it gets a yellow discoloration after a tan or two.

BTW: What length nails are in right now?
    (haven't danced since last year...)
    Short? Mid legnth?

Do you think men like the short or medium nail-length nails these days?

    Talking about darker hair colors..
I used to bleach my hair blonde, and last year i decided to grow it out to my original brunette. After my dark hair started to fill out, I noticed that I seemed to look a bit 'harder'. I began to notice the slight crease between the nose and the mouth...(i hate that!!) and I started to notice my nose more from profile view (i don't have a big nose but it's sort of pointy like a British nose) and now I obsess way too much over getting my lips fuller!!

I remember reading somewhere that men, American men especially, respond negatively to dark nail and lip colours. There are exceptions to every rule and every study but I use that advice as a rule of thumb.

As far as "in" from a fashion standpoint, shorter nails in beiges and iridescent are in. In the clubs I've been to, I see mostly mid-length with French manicures and a square tip. Mine are oval, mid-length and a natural beigey pink.

I think dark colors like black and burgandy don't look good, especially on toes. I know a girl who uses a dark red, which appears black. Not very attractive IMHO.
It's better to be looked over, than overlooked.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

Even though it is springtime, i wanted to change my image to a dark, seductive, vampish look- but not look goth looking. If you ever have seen the BeBe ads and Guess ads in magazines- Adrianna Lima(supermodel in the ads) always has her nail color very dark and it fits her. I wanted to go for that same look-but dark colors look 'old' on me. (especially when I'm still getting a base tan!!)

I just want to add a comment....I really hate those acrylic french manicures that glow under the blacklight. That just looks so tacky to me!

As far as colors, guys seem to love basic red, but I don't use that on my toes since I think they look better with fleshy, shiny colors. I think vampy colors look good on skin with blue undertones.

My nails and such goes with my persona....I look really young, and "cute" (hence the name ANGEL) so, long nails and bright colors really downplay that fantasy alot...It's funny how a little thing like that makes such a huge difference.
People say I look like Kate Hudson, so I try to mimic her styles.
I keep my fingernails short and if I paint them, it's typically a pale pink or neutral color, sometimes a clear polish with glitter (like a kid would wear)
    My toes are always red.
I wear minimal jewelry, and keep my hair blonde.

You should use your "fantasy" to the best of your ability. If your the goth girl, dark polishes fit, and long nails look good on "latin" dancers. The glow in the dark acrylics do really well on dark skinned girls, but look horrible and tacky on the little bitty pale redhead.

I do the old-school 50's vamp (as in fashion vamp, not vampire vamp) look: traditional red lipstick and nailpolish, thick (but not fake) lashes and dark eyeliner. I'm really pale with black hair and dark eyes, so it works for me, but I've seen some girls try it and it just looks horrendous. My own personal style runs to dark chromes and blacks, but it's too much of a pain to change nail polishes all the time so I just keep 'em red.

Emily - often times its the base coat they put on first that glows in the dark! I too HATE that glow UGH! I bring in my own quick dry base coat in clear that I double checked at work and does NOT glow in the dark, and poof no more glow.
That or get the "american" manicure not the "french" manicure whereas they use a pale pink coat over the tip and it covers the acrylic glow. (its a color not a tinted clear)

Some salons have an acrylic powder that glows no matter what you do tho - fortunately my salon does not - I guess its shop around and buyer beware when it comes to that damn glow.
