    Default help! numb toes

    hi everyone:

i am new to the board. i am also new to dancing. i am freaked out because after my last shift, two of my toes are numb and have stayed numb for like 3 days.

i wear 6inch heels with 2 inch platforms. my first two days went ok--my feet hurt but weren't numb. but now they are.

anyone else have numb toes? is it just something you go through at first. did a doctor ever tell you anything?

thanks in advance for the advice!

I've not had this problem, but a girlfriend of mine has it constantly. I'm assuming this is happening to either your big& pinky toes or your last two toes, since this is where she has her problems. Your circulation is most likely being cut off - so it might be a good idea to bring two types of heels to work; one being your platforms, and your other being a regular heeled shoe- maybe a lower heel, but yet the require minimum - which for most clubs is 3 inches. Try to keep your shoes off and change into flip flops when in the dressing room as much as possible - or when not on the floor - and massage your feet & shake them out every so often. Your blood isn't flowing properly - and if it's keeping your toes numb for 3 days at a time - that's not good!
Try to get a foot massage once a week - and stretch your legs & feet before your start your shift...it really helps - I rarely if ever have foot problems anymore. (unless i have a new shoe to break in)
Another good idea is to invest in a larger size shoe (1/2 a size) and gel or orthopedic inserts...
Sometimes if you wear mule-type platforms instead of strap-buckled shoes, you don't realize the pressure you're putting on your feet to actually keep the shoes on - so a buckle on strap shoe could be better (unless that's what you already wear)
Hope this helps - good luck!

This happened to me once... I was wearing those clear plasticky shoes, and on a busy night I never got the chance to stop and rub my feet. The plastic stretched (as it does naturally and because I was hot) and my feet slipped farther down, making the straps tighter. When I took the shoes off, my toes were purple and asleep. They stayed asleep all the way home, and when I woke up in the morning, my big toes and the pad on the bottom of my foot were numb. It felt like I had something stuck to the bottom of my foot.

The doctor said it was nerve damage and it might get better and it might not. It did on one foot, and partially on the other foot.

yea my big toe and my index toe go numb. i HATE it. scrubbing them with sand at the beach works well (sorry if you are from somewhere cold...just use a salt scrub on your feet)...and get pedicures.

I deal with this all the time on my left foot.It goes numb when I have any of my dance shoes on..Like stated before, nrve damage...We compress our feet into angled shoes that presses down on the nerves. I have been dancing for 5 years, and now at times it will go numb even when I am bartending and in tennis shoes......

My toes were numb for 2 weeks after I first started dancing! I didn't do anything to help circulation, which is probably why the numbness stayed for so long. When at work, I rarely left the floor to go to the dressing room to relax. For awhile I almost considered going to the doctor to have my feet checked out. Wouldn't that be a funny conversation... "Yeah, I'm a stripper, and my toes have no tingle.." lol. Since then I've tried to rotate my shoes more. My clear plastic ones are my favorite, but like Lena said, STRETCH! I also try to do mini massages with these peppermint feet products I got from Bath and Body Works when I am in the shower.
