Default Meal times for optimum fat burning (question)

I'd like to ask a question about nutrition together with cardio. My BMI is 25 which is overweight and I'm trying to cut as much fat as possible while maintaining muscle tone.

I know you are supposed to have 'little' portions of protien and carb with every meal every three hours so to keep your body fueled and burning fat- not starving and burning the muscle.

This is a question in regards to the time of day you have something to eat before cardio for optimum fat burning results.

Should you start cardio in the AM on an empty stomach to get the metabolism going- then after your done- wait 20 minutes to eat a small breakfast combinding protien and small amount of carb?

Or- do you have a small protien breakfast first- and then do cardio?

I do medium level cardio a few times a day. Altogether i do about 1hour-2hours a day depending, so I'd like to know the optimum times to eat before/after cardio for most efficient fat burning.

    thanks!

The most efficient fat burning method would be to warm up, then complete some weight training exercises, then do your cardio, and THEN eat breakfast.

I honestly can't manage this, though, because I am so hungry when I wake up. I would either have a piece of fruit first to get me through, or I just do my cardio. But if you can manage the above without fainting, it's the optimum way to burn fat.

Outerspace---As mentioned, do your morning cardio before food. I wouldn't suggest weightlifting on an empty stomach as the energy systems involved will be low which will not allow for a productive weight session.

As to your eating frequency, the absolute best way to feed is to eat 6 small meals a day. The first three meals should consist of a protein and a carb (chicken/brocolli, Steak/potato, protein shake with maltodextrin). Do not eat any fats with your carbs. Consume all three protein/carb meals before 2pm.

For the next three meals you want a protein and a fat together (chicken breast with 2 glasses of milk, zero carb protein shake with flaxseed oil mixed in, low carb peanut butter, steak)
Your best bet is to consume the protein fat meals as protein shakes as they are convenient and you can take some flax or fish oil capsules as your fat source.

I'd also sugest taking digestive enzymes with all meals to help digestion. High protein diets tend to be hard on the digestive system at first. You don't need a case of the trots if you have to dance.

    Good Luck

Hunter- Thanks for the info about the right way to conbind protiens/fats/carb.

You mentioned not to have any fats with your carb for the first three meals.

Question- Every meal i have right now consists of some tuna(protein) mixed with 2 tsp balsamic vinigar(carb) 1 tsp olive oil(fat) on half slice of whole wheat bread(carb)
also mix in 1 cerery(carb) on a bed of 1 green lettuce leaf(carb)

For the first three AM meals- Should I NOT include the olive oil in the tuna??

Also for the evenings, I should also not include the
vinigar, celery and lettuce in the tuna? (i know bread is out of the question in the PM)

    Thank you!!!! =)

Yes, for the first 3 meals leave out the olive oil. I would go so far as to say you can use 2 full pieces of wheat bread, the vinegar, lettuce and celery to make a good sandwich. The lettuce and celery are very low glycemic carbs and are more water than anything. So most of the carbs will come from the wheat bread, which is still on the low end of the glycemic index. Just so you know they make canned white meat chicken just like the tuna. A ten ounce can has like 60 grams of protein so it's very convenient to throw into a mixed green salad. Breaks the minotiny of too much tuna.
I highly suggest you use some flaxseed capsules and fish oil capsules. These contain essential fats your body needs. Use these in the evening with your protein/fat meals. I also highly suggest you get a zero carb protein powder. Specifically Whey Protein Isolate so you won't get any bloating or gas as it contains no lactose. Natures Best Chocolate Isopure is a great product to use.
    Good Luck!!

    Hi!
Personally, I can't do an efficient workout with nothing in my stomach... I sugar crash within minutes. My trick is this: Go to Costco or something, and buy a box of powerbars or clifbars. Just eat half a bar maybe 15 minutes before your workout, with some water. It's the perfect amount. Also, don't eat dinner too close to bedtime... small snack only.

The most important part of losing fat is DIET. Atkins is a good way. Another way is Long Slow Distance training which is doing cardio 45 to 60 minutes at 50 to 65% of your maximum heart rate. The time of day in which you do it does NOT matter. As long as you do it.

Your best bet is to eat five or six small meals a day. As a fitness professional that's what I do. The food should consist of clean foods and lean protein. My diet consists of protein shakes, yams, chicken breasts, lean turkey and lean beef, lots of fresh veggies and fruits, water, oatmeal, egg white omelettes, and fish...I rarely eat anything that is processed nor do I eat a lot of foods with sugar, starch, and white carbphydrates with a high glycemic index.

Your diet is the most important thing, even more so in some ways than exercise. If you want to burn fat in the most optimal way, you must eat clean and healthy, and burn fat with cardio AND weight training .

This is exactly how I eat and I'm at 17% bodyfat. I do Atkins and that is the pre-maintenance/maintenance level of the diet.

it is so important to eat breakfast! That is the only way your metabolism can get its jump start, without that you are screwed!!!!!! I usually dont eat after work unless I had too much 2 drink! But in the morn. I eat a yogurt tredmill it then eat some mini wheats or wheaties. NEVER! work out on an empty tummy you body has no energy to burn off, and if you are doing it now and its working, not for long!!! your body hates iy.

Not to go against this, but I just wanted to point out that the above works for most people who go to sleep between 9 and 11. But when it comes to people who are up, walking around, dancing until 2 or 3 am that means they have been using energy and not refuling for roughly 7 hours. It's true that you shouldnt eat for around 3 hours before you go to sleep, but a light snack to keep you going is a good idea.

Fruit is best because it is received by your stomach as predigested, so your body doesnt have to work as hard to digest it, and it will serve the purpose of holding back hunger. But keep in mind that where fruit is concerned because it is predigested you should only eat it with other fruit otherwise it will rot in your stomach as gross as it sounds. So either make sure you havent eaten for around 4 hours before eating fruit or else it will probably just rot in your stomach. and yeah that's ewwie.

i have been following the eat right for your type diet and 1hour a day of exercise that includes cardio and weights..i love it. also stretching really helps keep you going on a daily basis. when i get home from my office job i throw on sweats and a hoodie and stretch while i watch tv or play with the doggies, it totally revives me. definitely 6 meals a day is the only way to lose and manage your weight.or you end up with stretch marks from yo yo dieting.
