    Hey candigrl-
I work at a gown club in manhattan, and they are fairly strict about the tattoo rules. They all must be covered if over the size of a quarter.(some clubs say no tats whatsoever) My tattoo (only one) is about the size of 2 quarters, and I can get away with it.
I'm not too sure about what the rules are in Atlanta, but generally in top clubs, the rules are similar.
I'm also a pro makeup artist, and I usually use dermablend - no matter what you use, sometimes it's going to rub off. Sephora also uses a tattoo cover kit that you can also use- that's worked for me as well when I used to cover my tattoo (it's lighter than dermablend and doesn't crease). There's also Tattoo CoveRing (do a websearch to buy this product, I don't remember what website I bought it from..) - which is used for heavy color tat-art. It has 6 shades to custom blend..

A word of caution - the Dermablend leg and body cover glows under blacklight. I don't know about the other formulations as I haven't used them, but when I've used Dermablend to cover bruises and such, I've noticed it. (usually only when I'm doing pole tricks up near the top of the pole, by the lights - there, the Ivory shade glows a very unattractive hot pink color - EEEEEW.) Depending on the location or bright-ness of the blacklights in the clubs you're considering this may or may not actually be an issue for you, but better to know about the possibility beforehand.

It does cover really well, to the extent that if I'm covering bruises I have to be careful not to get it on my tattoos for fear of accidently covering up a chunk of one. (I work in clubs that like having a certain amount of 'freaky' girls, as I can't hang on to a hair color for more than a couple months without getting bored, and I have three tats with plans for more, and a nipple piercing, and just generally get along better when I can be more myself in a club.)

A better product for covering bruises, at least for me, is Revlon Colorstay stick-type foundation. Covers about as well as the dermablend, comes in more shades so it matches my very pale skin better, and doesn't glow. I haven't tried to cover tats with it, though, so I dunno how well it would work for that.

Actually, lemme go grab it and check....

(running to dance bag for makeup...)

(smearing colorstay over blackwork ankle tattoo...)

Hm. Well, then. I just smeared it over the tat, and while it's nowhere close to invisible, I don't think it would be *too* obvious under club lighting. Keep in mine that this tattoo is decently sized blackwork - and the artist went pretty deep when he did it, so it's BLACKBLACKBLACK. It might work better on less-intense ink. Also, I just smeared it on without doing much else to it at all. When I'm covering bruises for work, I have a multi-step process:
    1. moisturise area to be covered with oil-free lotion - oil-free is important because a little bit *will* come off when you do floor or pole work, and if the oil gets on the pole or the floor you've basicly screwed up every other girl who touches it for a couple hours, as they'll have to be very careful or they'll slip. And you will, too, for the rest of your set and the next few, too.
    2. apply covering makeup of choice
    3. apply loose powder over makeup with a large-ish dusting brush - helps 'set' the makeup and keep it on YOU and not everything else.
    4. spray aerosol hairspray over area after powder - adds more stay-put-ness to it all.
    5. keep an eye on it throughout the night and apply more makeup and powder as needed. always 'seal' with hairspray.

Also, think about the locations of your tattoos - is it possible you could cover some of them with stockings or a garter belt or something, and not have to worry about the makeup? This isn't an option for me, as my other two tats are on my upper arm and above my breast, so I'd pretty much have to wear a full top to cover them.

Are you totally stuck on the idea of working in the clubs where the tats would be an issue? Could you consider working places where they might be appreciated and admired? I don't know the situations in Atlanta, and if the non-gown clubs are skanky you can ignore this part. But I know a fair number of guys really like decorated women, even though there will certainly be some who hate the tattoos. I personally prefer having some of my individuality apparent to anyone who walks in, and I think it helps my own business (though of course I haven't tried working without the tats so I can't really compare...), as it makes me more identifiable..

I worked with a girl who had seven tattoos and frankly, I think I'm a rarity for not having any. Anyhow, she made plenty of money (she was petite, blonde, and built, too) and they didn't seem to be an issue. I think that unless you've got someone's name on you it probably won't be that big of an issue. And you're in Atlanta, right? I would imagine that in that town you probably have enough clubs that cater to a younger or hipper crowd that either doesn't care about tattoos or likes them a lot. They are usually only a problem in upscale clubs, but that doesn't mean you can't get hired somewhere where you can still make some money. There is this very hot black girl in one of the clubs here, she's got short bleached hair, tattoos, piercings, and an adorable figure - usually wears really cute outfits, schoolgirl stuff, and the combination of the edgy hair/piercings/tats with her sweet face and outfits makes her look stand out and she banks.

what i've found that works great for covering tattoos, bruises, scars, stretchmarks, etc. is Covermark...

    www.covermark.com

it goes on smooth and stays put (unlike Dermablend which i found flaked, caked and looked pretty aweful for covering a tattoo).

i actually met the lady that invented this stuff about 100 years ago (ok, not quite that long) when i saw her demonstrate her products. she was born with a "port wine" birthmark that covered half her face, and you really couldn't tell at all when she had her makeup products on (and that was in bright indoor lighting). seeing her remove her make up while giving her sales pitch made quite an impression.

Candigrl, I go to a shop that sells stage makeup - they have stuff that will cover anything, and you can try it on to see how it looks. For bruises and stuff I use a Ben Nye (big stage-makeup company) concealer with a sealing spray, and it works great. It's very sticky, so you pat it on rather than blending it in. Anyway, I recommend finding a stage/performance makeup place that sells this stuff and testing it out. It comes in a ton of shades from clown white to midnight black and looks pretty natural.

the one thing that does stink about Covermark is that you pretty much have to buy it online... they don't generally sell it in stores. since with messing with self-tanners, i never seem to be the same skin color all the time anyway so i bought a dark and light shade and mix them for the right color i happen to be at the time.

i'd like to try this Ben Nye stuff. i just have no idea where stage makeup can be purchased where i live. there must be somewhere in Philly that does.

One club i dance at they better be covered good. They will not hire girls with tattoos. Alot of girls have great sucess covereing them with the old cake makeup matching thier skin tone. It is tuff stuff, so it does not rub off. Almost have to scrape the stuff off at the end of the night, since it only wants to smear when trying to clean yourself. ( and thats when it's wet.) I love the old cake makeup, the kind you have to wet a bit to set it. It dries, looks fantasic, and no scars. Covers colour too! Pamela

    Hi candigrl,
i have a shop in town that sells costumes for parties. They have cake makeup on the shelf. I found the same kind online searching for you. And the funny thing is it's cheaper online, even after shippping i'm sure.
heres the site. Also my local walgreens carries cake makeup at times. Alot of costume stores can also order it for you, as can a better cosmetic counter in a large dept. store. It works great for the girls with tatts. Pamela

    This may sound crazy but...

Have you looked at the Playboy magazines and noticed how so much body painting goes on at their parties? Well, that's what gave me this idea for covering my tattoos. I use a model car airbrush kit and acrylic paint. I mix several colors of paint together until I have the color of my skin. I mix enough to last three months so that I don't have to waste time mixing every day that I work. I shave the area over the tattoo with an electric razor so that it looks smoother (optional). I airbrush it on and it dries within a minute or two. It's actually easier than covering up with makeup. I think it looks as natural as you can get and it stays on till I shower again. You can get enamel paint that stays on much longer but it takes a lot longer to dry and it might be bad for your skin. Not sure. I think my kit cost around $20 in the model car section of Wal-Mart.

Also, the airbrush kit is great for self-tanners. Makes the tan streak free and a lot easier to apply. But you need to be sure and get a liquid self-tanner. No lotions or foams.

where do you get the paints? in the auto section? and how much does the airbrush kit cost? this sounds interesting enough to try. so far, no kind of makeup i've used works very well. it either rubs or flakes off or it looks like i've covered something with makeup.

You can find the airbrush kit (around $20-30) and the paint in the model car section. Acrylic paint can also be found in the craft section and it's cheaper there too.

As for the color, this is more dificult. That's why I advise that you mix as much as you can so that you don't have to do it often. I use brown, white, and yelllow. I start with the white then adding a little brown, little yellow. Until I get the color I want. It's not too hard but don't do it if you're in a hurry.

I haven't really searched for any other colors as you may be able to find a paint set that has skin tones. If you do, please share!

Candigrl....and may i ask what is wrong with what you said hun? Variety makes us special. If we all looked the same, men would get bored. You are unique! Different! Special! And a human being. You probably don't even know how many women would want to be like you. Actually, you don't know! But there are. Hell, if i never see you in person just reading your posts are good enough for me.
OK, i am going to be 33, too damn white, (casper), raising my daughter alone, working my ASS off, don't sleep enough. Ass is only getting bigger, and alot of the guys at the club want more from me! It never ends fighting them off. I have a horrible accent, spelling sucks. Should i go on? I am there with you. It gets better for us. Lotsa love sent to you, Pamela~

    Lol Holly Day, my warts.....

Sometimes covering up a tattoo takes a few different mixtures of a very thick cake makeup. It stays on long, will not rub off. I used to cover a scar when i was kicked by my horse with this stuff, and had to take it off with baby oil.
But mixing and matching to you skin tone is easier these days with so many products on the market. Even if you are a very dak skinned woman.
