Default Advice for an overwieght stripper

Hello all, have any of you ever battled a weight problem while on the job? If so how did you handle it, how long did it take you to shed the pounds and how did you handle the asshole customers in the meantime?(you know the ones who think they are doing you a favor by pointing out that you might be " a little big" as if you didnt already know) I am right now about 165 depening on the time of the month it goes up and down but i have been btween 165-172 for awhile now until recently I did nothing about it, was depressed and in a funk, I recently (in the last two weeks) have started taking fat burners, they are called diet system 6, supposedly all natural, bought a gym membership, and started going everyday, doing 30 min cardio and then light to medium wieght training, and started watching what I eat a bit more carefully, and though I havent lost and wieght on the scale persay, I have noticed a difference in the way my clothes are fitting and such already, not a big difference but still its a start..... so I'm wondering, how long do you think it will take to be back to the old me? fit, trim and solid? how do i keep the motivation, and how can i deal with the few insensitive customers in the mean time, and no taking time off to lose the weight is not an option, I have attached a photo so you can see what im talking about body wise (IE my thickness/pudge ect perhaps some consructive critisism would help me??) thanks for listening to my rambling and I thank you in advance for the advice

A good safe goal is one pound per week. That is sustainable and healthy. When I went to lose some weight, I ate a lot of raw veggies and bananas. I cut out the red meat, except about once a week. Talk to your doc about a good diet for you.

For a workout, thirty minutes of cardio is a good start and some lifting is good. But you need to do a warm down as well. Also, once you start to feel some changes in your body, like you are now, you need to up the cardio and weights. When I was dancing, I worked out two hours a day, five days a week, minimum. Keep in mind that Cindy Crawford works out three hours a day, five days a week. Another thing I'd suggest is some cross training. Work different muscle groups on different days. It also helps combat boredom with your workout.

    Hello Curvy,

From the ages of about 4 till 13 I had a weight problem. Right before highschool I thinned - maybe it was hormones, who knows. But after highschool when I began college I gained quite a lot of weight. The freedom to eat whatever I wanted and the need to get it quickly made for a bad combo. I was soon over 200 pounds.

Having never been taught to eat right I decided I had to learn. All I can tell you what has worked for me. After a few months I lost 30 lbs and I eventually made it close to 140, I'm now 150-ish (gaining muscle weight). I've been able to keep trim and healthy for over two years now and I'm very happy.

If you want to lose weight, you have to be ready to commit. It takes a lifestyle change. There is no secret. Our bodies are input/output machine. You have to watch how much fat and calories you put in and how many calories you use up. Simple as that.

To help determine where you "should" be and how many calories you should be taking in, check http://www.dietitian.com/ibw/ibw.html. It's what I started with and it really helped.

Then just do it. I began by cutting fat. Saying no to bad foods and substituting. I also took half hour walk/jogs. That's how I lost the first 30lbs.

One day after running and gulping down a gatorade I realized that I was putting in more calories than I was losing by drinking the gatorade after my run. That's when I began calorie counting. I lost another 30lbs.

Now that I've lost the weight, I can eat most anything, just in moderation and if I have a "bad" meal, I make sure to be extra "good" the following day. My weight never fluctuates by more than a few lbs.

    Tips:

You have to keep monitoring yourself and what you put in (reading labels becomes a way of life).

It's easier to control what you put in rather than burning calories. Just hop on a treadmill with a calorie counter and see. It's easier to put down a burger and pickup a salad than running for HOURS.

To help get the nutritional info on common or unlabeled items check out http://www.nutri-facts.com/index.asp.

Start slow, say no to cheese, no to sweets, and keep trimming things off. Soon you'll have no problem eating a healthy and lean diet.

Reward yourself. Try every few days or once a week to treat yourself to something good (just make sure it isn't so fatty that it undoes all of your hard work). Is undoes a word? Dictionary says yes.

    I guess that's it...I need to sleep.

    Good luck!
We all imagine ourselves the agents of our destiny, capable of determining our own fate. But have we truly any choice in when we rise, or when we fall, or does a force larger than ourselves bid us our direction. Is it evolution that takes us by the hand, does Science point our way, or is it God who intervenes keeping us safe.

So much struggle for meaning, for purpose. And in the end, we find it only in each other. Our shared experience of the fantastic. And the mundane. The simple human need to find a kindred, to connect. And to know in our hearts... that we are not alone.

No ideas for dealing with the assholes, sorry :-(

For losing weight tho... think of your body as a fat burning machine. Feed the machine a little bit 6 times a day, so that it can constantly burn hot. Protein is your freind. It takes more energy to digest a steak than what you get from a steak. Tuna is good. Your body needs carbs, too, to keep going.

A body builder told me once to eat six meals a day with equal parts protein and carbohydrates, each meal the size of your hand. I followed it loosely for a while and it seemed to work. I still eat small amounts throughout the day instead of big meals.

Also, take vitamins. Look for food that is nutritious with low fat content.

    Regarding dealing with the "assholes":

    Make 'em think.

If a comment is made to you, (regarding weight, size, etc., whatever) just give them the old line:

"Well....You do know what they say about (*fill in the blank*) women, don't you? "

Or: "You HAVE heard the rumour about (*fill in the blank*).....Haven't you?"

Something along those lines. Just a common phrase meant to intrigue.
    Don't answer the 'questions' yourself.
It's for them to find out....

There IS a chance it may back-fire on you; where they come back with some rude reply, but by that point, you don't want them for your customer anyways.
Just stock up on some witty come-backs reserved for these situations.
    Not rude, just clever.
Sometimes they're your best defence in life.

    Best of luck to you.

I lost 20 pounds after my boyfriend broke up with me but I sure as hell don't recommend this to everyone!!!

Pryce is right. It IS alifestyle change. and damn, it gets easier as you see how you look.

Exercising is great but it's even better when you're not at a gym. I like riding my bike and walking. I feel like I"m doing something other than burning fat, you know? Not to mention, it's good for your soul.

as for the jerks, I like the "ugly" comment too (but just use it for jerks)

good luck sweetie, youknow youcan do it. keep is posted.

Well, I can honestly say I am in the same boat. At this point, I top out every other girl in my club in terms of weight - although, to be honest, we do have quite a few toothpicks.

I don't work out at a gym - I just work hard when I am at work. When you are running a 5 girl rotation, that means you get plenty of sets in which to do that. I also stay FAR away from the greasy shit they label as food at my bar - instead I bring a footlong Subway sandwich to work. If you are like me, and actually bust your ass when you are on stage, in the course of one night you should easily burn twice as many calories as there are in that one sandwich.

It also helps that I have ADD, because with ADD comes prescriptions that control it, which also act as appetite suppressants.

However, I wouldn't worry so much about the weight - more about your body fat. In two months, I have only dropped 5 lbs, but I have lost about 4 dress sizes. This is because the fat is melting off, and being replaced with lean muscle mass. Lean muscle is more dense than fat, so while it looks skinnier, it weighs more. The more muscle you develop while burning off at, the lower your body fat will be, which is good (up to a certain point, obviously).

Also, a good website is www.fitday.com . It's free. If you go there and play a little, and check it out, you'll see why I like it, I think. It has lots of little tools you can use to keep up with your diet and exercise, and weight loss or nutrition goals.

Hey thanks to all for the advice, I'm glad I'm not alone I was really about to give it up and get a "real" job which I know would make me soooo miserable LOL I am the only girl at my club w/ass and tits that aren't paid for (nuttin wrong w/paid for but damn!!!! I don't think they understand variety around here)so that leaves me to either try to conform or move on...... I'm trying to conform we'll see how it goes... so far so good LOL I wish we had 5 girl rotations but im working w/15-20 a night so only get a few sets :-(

One thing I learned about fat loss/muscle building: don't get discouraged if you mess up, then go back to old patterns...getting in shape is a life change and you can't expect it all to happen at once...it's easy to get discouraged and think oh i did this wrong i'll just forget the whole thing and start over some other time...just consider it a little break and a chance to get back on track.
don't attempt too much at once either!! you'll overwhelm yourself...build yourself up don't start out with too much...try exercise you enjoy~me, i like to swim (i despise running, as essential as it is!)...burn some upbeat music...
give yourself little rewards for doing well...set goals and give yourself due dates...don't be disappointed if you don't make them...but i swear it's easier to do something if you have to do it by a certain time
also, get your fat/muscle measured~at most gyms you can do this. i don't like to go by pounds bc (besides the fact it can be depressing) they are inconsistent -the amount of water in you, bloating, bone density, time of month, what you ate and when you ate....all this can attribute to how much you weigh...and all in the same day you can be up or down 5 pounds!
anyways, that's all i can think of off the top of my head!
    stay motivated + good luck!
oh and as for the rude customers...i'm sure they're not all that...and who are they to comment on you? personally i just would give them a big smile and thank them so much for letting me know! they may think i'm smiling cuz i'm a ditz~but i know why i'm really smiling --cuz i'm the one laughing all the way to the bank with THEIR money!

Just remember too....never DIET, diets don't work, they are a temporary way of losing weight. As soon as you go back to your regular eating habits, it all comes back. It ~ is~ all about making changes in your eating habits. It may take time, because the body will try to adjust to your new eating patern by using it so called reserves. Then it stops, and you WILL lose. And it does not hurt to exercise as well. Any movement is better than none, therefore you are burning calories.

    Hey Allotta,

About three years ago, during the time I had quit dancing, I still worked out a lot and have always been athletic. I am 5'2" and during that time, I was still wearing a size3/4 dress and skirts. However, my face was looking kind of chubby and I felt bloated. I was increasing my cardio to 1hr and 1/2 every other day and still I looked the same and felt tired! I had always been between 98 and 108 lbs, so I never really looked on the scale.

Well, I finally hired a personal trainer for the next 10 months. I got on the scale and weighed more than I ever had, 124lbs!! I didn't understand. It turns out, I was eating way too much bread and pasta and not enough protein. For the next year, I went on a form of the Atkins diet where for five days a week, I ate proteins and greens and for two days a week, I ate whatever I wanted. I did cardio for only 30 minutes and sometimes in the morning before I had anything to eat and stepped up the poundage of weight I was lifting.

Within ten months I lost 20 honest to goodness fat lbs., not just water weight. I toned up and got my abs looking really fab! I continued a form of this diet for another year but started to feel tired.

Since then, I follow a loose form of the Zone diet, since you can eat a greater variety of foods.

I know this sounds like a lot of work, but it really paid off and I will always be thankful to John, my ex-trainer!

    Cheers,

    Corey

Hey, if you have assholes saying something mean, say something right back. no need to put up with that bullshit from jerks who go to PAY to see you. SOME guys think that they re HIGH AND MIGHTY when they go to a stripclub, like we are below them.
Dont take it from them. Say something like, "I dont like the anorexic look" or say, "Hey! Dont be mean...you dont see me pointing out that hideous mole" (haha ok DONT say that) but you can say something along those lines, just not too vicious. Be nice regardless, ya know? They'll end up feeling bad about being dicks, and they'll also eat their words when you hit your goal.

Girl, if I wasn't big, I wouldn't have a job. Too much competition with you skinny chicks. I found my niche, and I found the men who want me for the body that I have.....I am totally happy with it, and wouldn't change a thing....

If you want to lose weight, you have to be dedicated. You have to want it. It is sooooo easy to chill on the couch vegging out and watching Survivor with Ben & Jerry (my evening plans tonight) it is hard to have a good body, you have to work for it.

    No pain, no gain....
Lova ya, no matter how lumpy you are!

I would say the most important thing is to not worry about the scale. As you've already seen the number on the scale doesn't have much to do with your measurements. Muscle weighs more than fat. Muscle burns more calories too. So the more muscle you have the slimmer you are compared to someone of the same weight/less muscle and the more you can eat!

If you can ask them to take your bodyfat and measurements at the gym and keep doing so every two to four months to check your progress. I'm glad I did...I gained ONE pound after all my hardwork but it turns out I lost five pounds of fat and gained six pounds of muscle and I lost ONE INCH! Ignore the scale!!!

I worked at a gym (and may be again soon) and I GRILLED the personal trainers on a daily basis and finagled the trainer's handbook (a big huge book no one's allowed to have but the trainers) so if anyone has any questions I'm not an expert but I have a lot of knowledge and I'd love to share. Just send me a private message!

    Hi sweetie!!!
ALl i have to say is good luck on your efforts! I have been in your boat. I started dancing nine months ago at an upscale club. I knew i was very curvy but not obese but i could stand to lose 10 pounds of fat and tone up. But regardless they hired me because they thought i looked like a supermodel well, face wise at least most super models are one half my size. But i had to start on the day shift (ugh) partly because i had no experience but i think really they wanted me to lose just a little bit more weight.
Anyhow the day shift really sucked!!! Every day I would walk out of there with forty dollars!! Not enough if you are working three days a week! So i started pulling double shifts! Suprisingly I did make money at night even though it was exuasting! SO i knew i could make money. Well, working double shifts payed off because after four months i toned up. I wasn't watching my weight or excerise at all ouside of dancing. Now i wasn't at my ideal body weight or toned enough but i was definatly half way there. I flat out told the managers i wan't to start working strictly nights. They were quick to oblige and then i made a promise to myself. Since i was only going to be this age once and my money making potiental is limited in this buissness i am going to do all i can to make all the money i can before it is time to go!
So i started taking things slow. I swiched to diet pop insted of regular. Now i am working on water insted of diet. Water is great if you are trying to lose weight and it is good for your skin to. Wrinkles are not sexy just as celliulite isn't! LoL! When i first started dancing I would be starving at three thirty am and eat four slices of cheese pizza. Then i swiched to soup and some crackers. Now i eat a frozen meal like lean cuisene or healthy choice consisting of protien like meat or chicken. Those frozen meals are great because you keep portions in check and if you are still hungry have an orange or a piece of fruit. The water in the fruit will help make you feel full.
Now on to excerise! Very if not more important than counting calories! I have been working out consistantly for six weeks now and already i can see a big change in my body! And so can other people! Every week i swear someone comes up to me and is like omg! are you losing weight you are looking so good!!! As with changing your eating habits start slow with excerise as well. Six weeks ago i did cardio for twenty minutes, three times a week. That was all i could do without feeling like i was going to have a heart attack! I did strenght training on my total gym (awsome piece of equipment) two times a week. And also ten minutes of streaching two times a week. Flexability is so good for your overall fittness not to mention making your body look leaner! Two weeks ago i uped my cardio to Thirty minutes three times a week and stayed with my strengh and flexability program. You don't have to work out seven days a week for three hours a day to see results. I am living proof of that. To tell you the truth I look perfect now. Well not perfect but am very satisfied and am making awsome money!
I can't stress enough how important it is to take small steps! This is what has gotten me into tip top shape!! Seriously you will not get burnt out and overwhelmed. This has been the key for me. The only reason i contining to work out and eat right is to maintain my weight not to lose anymore. But ya know you have to enjoy being healthy. For me i have always loved excerise and healthy food but i would never stay consistant with it if i slipped up i would just quit!!! You can't do that you have to accept that you messed up and just keep going or your whole excerise and eating program will go out of whack! And you will have to start all over again! THat is why my weight has been so up and down since i was eighteen ( i am twenty one now)
well i hope you can relate to some of my story and remember take things slow don't over do it and you will stick with your program. Sorry if this got to long! Good luck i know you can do it!!!!!!!

I wish you the best of luck. Pick up the weights too because without the weights you will not be able to firm up your muscles. Watch what you eat but do not come to put all of your energy on what you can and can not eat. You will become very unhappy. Good luck with the weight loss. And, well, for the ass holes there is not much you can do except stay away from them. Good luck!!
