    Default Dry hair!!!

    o.k. all,

I have just come back from the salon, had my hair cut and colored, and my stylist was borderline threatening me that I better start to condition my hair with the heating cap once a week. :o ( I used to have thin hair, solved THAT prob by coloring it when the grey and white hairs creeped in.) The ends are my weakness. Do you guys have a favorite DEEP conditioner? She recommended a few I but wanted to do poll, and ask around!

    thanks so much,

    Lara

Use Infusium 23!!! Get the shampoo, conditioner, AND the leave in conditioner. The stuff isn't *too* expensive and it works really well.

I can't use Infusium, it pulls out highlights, as will hot oil conditioners. VO5 etc. after washing and shampooing with any colour treated shampoo and conditioner, i rub through my strands "extreme shine".
Or,"pro vitamin e, Instant hair repair serum". Both are FANTASTIC!!! i dont put much on, mainly concentrate on the ends. My hair is very long. If you apply to your scalp it will weigh your hair down.. Salp hair is healthy anyway. The middle to ends are what these two products are made for. I use them on damp or completely dry hair. LOVE THEM!! They work. And will not pull out colour. Pamela

    Thanks Rez, and Pam,

She is a great stylist, but her products she pushes for her salon in NYC are expensive. Your alternatives are very workable.

    thanks loads!

I use Infusium 23 shampoo and conditioner for colored/permed hair, and a spray leave-in available at most salons in the Regis category called TextureLine Texture Shine Spray ($11.95) - spray on while wet before combing than air or blowdry. Also, once a week or anytime after going to the beach, I use some of the deep conditioner that comes in home hair color kits. The Excellence line comes with a good-sized tube of conditioner that I get about 3 uses out of (long hair to my waist) for about $8. You can just throw away the coloring chemicals - $8 isn't bad for three weekly treatments! Finally, I use a Kolestral treatment with a cap and sit for 20 minutes under the salon-style hair dryer I bought at Wal-Mart for $20. Can't remember how much the Kolestral stuff costs, but I think around $6 for a large jar that lasts months and I use it once or twice a month. All this stuff (except the spray) is available at most drugstores. So, overall, with shampoo, conditioner and special treatments I spend no more than $35 per month on my hair and it's quite nice. The salon-style dryer I got to use for those Kolestral treatments, it's very lightweight and folds up into a small round box for storage, then just pull it out and set it up on the kitchen table to use.

You absolutely do not have to buy all that expensive salon stuff to have nice hair.

Another alternative is to go to any beauty school and get a deep conditioning treatment for maybe $5. I've done that also and works well, but I prefer to do my stuff at home on my schedule

I believe its called Biolage by Matrix or just plain biolage. This line of shampoo and conditioner is great. When I made a drastic cut like seven inches off, my curly hair b/c more defined b/c of the reduced weight. I began to flat iron it more and it got drier and drier and then just plain fried looking, plus I was also coloring. This stuff worked like a dream and did not dull up my light auburn/strawberry blondy deal I had going on then.
Also, people have gallon size and larger of Biolage shampoo and conditioner on ebay for like $20 or $30 for a gallon or sometimes even large buckets with pumps. Sooooooo..............no salon price problems.

I color my hair and my stylist tells me to use Bumble and Bumble Leave in Conditioner. It seems to work pretty well for me. Also, I swear by Redken Glass, which is a shine serum. It's a silicone based product that you smooth in your hair after styling or when it's wet. It makes my hair so much softer and shiny. I won't do my hair without it.

No no no no no! Silicones can actually dry out your hair. Baaad idea. If you like Redken though, try their color shampoo, and use the All-soft conditioner. Fantastic stuff! Very addictive.

I like abba too, they have tons of awesome, thick, creamy conditioners.

Ego Boost by Bedhead or Kpak is super too.

Dumb Blonde Reconstructor from TIGI is also good. It isn't just for blondes, any hair color can use it.
Also, have you tried the Heavy Cream from Redken's All Soft line? It's pretty great too.

I used to use some stuff when I was in London called Kerastase, shampoo and conditioners. This was absolutely the best stuff I've ever used for my hair, but I've never found it on this side of the pond since I returned. Anybody heard of it or seen it? The package said it was from Loreal, but it was definitely not your standard drugstore Loreal! I've even looked on the internet and found sites that sell it online....but only to those in England! Aarrgg! If anyone knows where to get this stuff I'd really appreciate the info!

Biologe is great, but the shampoo contains a very harsh detergent that will dry out hair over time. Try Biotera instead if you love the scent. ABBA's Recoup, and Sebastian's Suedeluxe as well as Kolesteral by Queen Helene (much better than Wella's) are awsome if your hair is really fried. Redken's CAT or All Soft are both good if your damage is only minor. I have permed, bleached hair, that is nearly waist length, and have tried nearly everything on the market.

Check the high-end boutiques in your area. I found Kerastase, even in little old Portland, Oregon. I just wish I could afford it. It's CRAZY expensive!

Whatchyou talkin' bout Willis? All Soft is the shiznat! I have so abused my hair and it's saved the day every time! I've bleached it um, on about a weekly basis, died it purple, took the purple out, bleached it again, dyed it white, put pink stripes in, subjected it to so many smokey clubs and raves I can't even remember. All Soft is a savior. Buuut, I was using it all along during the abuse, you can't torment your hair for months and expect a miracle.

Do you have pretty course hair to begin with? There's another member of the allsoft family that works for course hair, especially Latina but I forgot what it's called.

TIGI stuff is just kick ass because it comes in neato bottles! I saved my Ego Boost bottle for months because it came in a chemistry flask type thing.

Why'd you have to go tell me about the allsoft heavy cream. Is that the one they actually named "addictive." I died laughing when I saw that. My stylist was on the phone ordering and it sounded like a drug deal, "Yeah, get me some of that. I've got some junkies who need that shit!"

I need another bottle of ABBA's MoistureScentsation shampoo. Minty, tingly goodness, and it makes your hair sooo soft!

I use Infusium, but I also use the L'oreal Feria conditioner. You can get it in a big tube at Sally Beauty Supply for about $6.99. It seems to work better for me than Tigi Dumb Blonde

A friend of mine did blonde highlights (from jet black hair) and used the L'oreal Feria as well. If your hair is really dry and/or damaged, you may want to try Organic Root Stimulaor Hair Mayonnaise. I use it once a week and once a month, I add an egg to it for an extra kick of protein. You can find it at most pro hair salons (I think even Walgreen's and HEB carry it) in the ethnic hair care aisle, but you may want to ask your friendly salesperson to see if it might be too heavy for you, especially if your hair is thin.

    Good luck!

Heavy Cream is a thicker conditioner meant to be used as a treatment. But if you're as dry as I am, you might want to use it every time you wash. It has the avacado oil in it like the regular All Soft conditioner does. It's really, really good for leaving your hair feeling super moisturized. I bought the Addictive too. It's like a conditioning spray that you spray on after conditioning then rinse out. I used the entire bottle up and I have to say....it did NOTHING except maybe take up even more time in my already exhaustive hair routine. Two thumbs down for that crap. Don't waste your money.
I love Moisture Scentsation too, but I can't use it anymore. My man HATES the scent. Oh well, I'd rather have him nuzzling in my hair than use it any day!

I also cant use infusiun 23 because it has adverse side effects on my hair. My sister is a stylist with 7 yeras under her belt and she is a rep. for bumble and bumble. It works great. ITs fairly new but so far it has gotten great results. I also just began using Garnier Fructis which is brand new and works woonders on my head of hair. It is about $4 a bottle but it uses fruit extracts which my hair loves. And it smells good too!!
