It's a much, much easier recovery after your second surgery than it was for your first. I have had three surgeries and I swear it's gotten easier each time. I'm actually thinking about going back in again too, but I'm trying to weigh boobs against eyelids and/or labia for my next surgery. What to do....what to do???? Guess I'll figure it out when I get all the money allocated for it...

If you have the labia deal done I know I and many others will be really curious about it - especially if it changes sex in any way!

Also, I don't know if this is true or not, but isn't is possible for you to get silicone if it's not your first boob job? I know that Heather has mentioned this before and I agree that silicone boobies are much nicer looking and feeling. I mean orders-of-magnitude better than saline.

You can get silicone if it's not your first augmentation surgery. It's considered reconstructive after the first surgery so it qualifies for silicone implants. As Collette says, I like my silicone much better than the saline. It was a world of difference with both look and feel.
Also, as for the labiaplasty, I hope to get it before the end of the year and I'll make sure to post about it and the recovery, etc. I can't wait, though. I've wanted the surgery for a VERY long time.

    Heather!

I have saline and I was thinking about change to silicone.

One thing I really hate about the saline is when I lie down on my back they feel really hard. I don't know if it is under the muscle thing or saline things.

What is your opinion on this?

see mine are saline and are very soft and pliable, you really can not tell they are implants. heather can you tell me more about your second surgery.

Well, my second surgery was to remove my 350cc saline implants in favor of 525cc implants. I also had some scar tissue removed during the procedure. My first two surgeries were about a year apart. I didn't get my silicone implants until a few years later when I had one of my saline implants deflate. That surgery I decided to go with silicone implants because my body seems to be particularly prone to capsular contracture and I felt that I would have less of a chance of hardening with the silicone. I also had some rippling, particularly when my bodyfat was low, and I felt the silicone would be better in that regard. In both cases, the silicone greatly improved my results. I got 800cc's, which for me was a DD or DDD. I was much happier with both the look and feel of my silicone implants. My breasts now are pretty soft. I mean if your really massage them deeply you could feel the implants. Considering that both previous sets of my saline implants felt hard as concrete, this was a big improvement! I also had my implants placed over the muscle as opposed to under like I had before. This allowed my implants to finally drop to directly underneath my natural breast as opposed to being above them as they were when they were under the muscle. This resulted in a more natural-looking and ripple-free breast.
Now these are simply my experiences with my body. There are no hard and fast rules with implants. Everybody's body and experiences are different. A good surgeon can help you decide what would be the best approach for you. I can say, however, that every girl I have known who has made the switch from saline to silicone has been pleased. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

No question that having your boobs redone is MUCH easier than getting implants in the first place. Last time, all I took for pain was Tylenol and I was RUNNING through Atlanta airport 1 day post-op to catch my connecting flight home (holding my boobs of course).

Another thing to consider with saline implants is that, because saline solution is abrasive and rubs away at the implant bags over time, it's just a matter of time before you wake up with a "flat tire" one morning. The time it takes is dependent on a load of different factors such as the specific implant bags, the amount of overfill put in them (more overfill = fewer folds in implant bags = longer life), how often and how powerfully your pec muscles expand and contract around the implant bags etc. Usually a certain percentage of "normal women" can expect to start experiencing saline implant leakage problems after 10 years or so. Girls who dance subject their implants to higher than average stresses, so it's probable that a certain percentage will start to experience these problems in say 7 years. If your implants are 5 years old already, having new ones put in would eliminate this risk factor.

However, silicone fluid is a lubricant, so silicone filled implants usually have a much longer life than saline implants, say 20 years as opposed to 10 without significant chance of an implant failure. And the new cohesive silicone gel implants are virtually leakproof.

As far as "taking it up a notch", you'll get the best results in regard to regained firmness if you go at least 300cc larger, like from your current 400? to 700cc.

i was thinking of going from 480 to 600 im afraid 700 might be a bit much on my short small frame. also to heather, was your pain much less than the first time. i was unable to get off the couch the first time for 5 days without help!!! recovery time? i still had some pain for 6 weeks! i never considered myself a wimp for pain, i mean i had natural childbirth which went on way to long. but my recovery seemed to be atypical and much worse than most and i know lots of girls that had the same surgeon. that is why i said i would never do it again unless i had to.

My recovery after the first surgery was similar to yours - HORRIBLE! I never would have thought I could go through that again. I even had to use a suppository to help me stop throwing up from all the pain. My next surgery was SO much easier. I would say it was less than a third of the pain. I actually drove a short distance the night of my surgery (I know I wasn't supposed to). Anyway, there was no throwing up like before. Basicly, it felt like I had gone to the gym and done a WAY too heavy chest workout. I was sore, but I wasn't thinking that suicide might be a good alternative to the pain (like the first time)!

Velvet, you probably won't even have to change bra size if you only go from 480 to 600cc. The only change you'll probably see is that any gap between your breasts will get smaller. If this is all the increase you're thinking of, save your money!

ok i see what you mean, but on the other hand i dont want to not have enough skin where they look bolted on. i guess it would be best to ask my surgeon as he is real good about correct sizing for the girl. he at first told me he was giving me 420 cc and after he got in decided i could take 480. i just love the natural look and feel of the ones i have and dont want to overstuff so to speak. that brings me to another question do you usually get any kind of discount for a second surgery? mine were pretty expensive even 5 years ago

it's not a cast in stone rule, but usually if you return to the same plastic surgeon who did your original implants he'll throw you a discount on his surgical fee. Of course, the cost of the new implants, anesthesia, operating room etc. will not be discounted. All in all, usually a 20%-30% discount versus a first time patient.

Back on the subject of implant size increase, as the cc ratings of implants gets higher, those extra cc's go in all three directions - up and down and sideways as well as sticking out farther. If you can imagine new implants which are 10% taller, 10% wider and stick out 10% farther than your current ones, this would require 480 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.1 or 639 cc. If you went for a 15% increase in height, width and forward projection this would require 480 * 1.15 * 1.15 * 1.15 or 730cc. This is the absolute minimum of increase that's worth the bother and expense. More typical is a 20% increase in all three dimensions, which would require 480 * 1.2 * 1.2 * 1.2 or 829cc! The typical way to get there for dancers is to go with a 600cc rated implant overfilled to 720cc for the 15%, or a 700cc rated implant overfilled to 840cc for the 20%, with the extra overfill intended to minimize implant bag wrinkles as much as possible.

I have gone back for 3 sets and a fill...hahaha. In front of the muscle, saline, and absolutely excellent recovery. The only remark in that regard was like a heavy feeling or like a gentle swollen breast feeling you get from your period coming on. No rippling, no flat tires, and the reason I went back, was increases. No major scars mine are across the nipple and absolutely undetectable. Went to 3 different surgeons too, one was a repeat. I tried overfill too but didnt like the half ball look stuck upon my chest and when overfilled they feel horrible. The pics in gallery were the 2nd last set - an overfill - yuk. (for me anyway)
Like Heather said each and every experience is seemingly unique -
I also didnt get a discount going back but no issue there, got the money.
Its always wise to put enough away for recovery time when you wont be working too.
    Good luck!

well i called my dr who is in memphis and i am in tampa. she said he was on a two year learning sabbitcal!!! so i asked her well what if i had a problem and she said what kind of problem and i said any and she said oh we have another dr taking care of his patients which by the way was not involved when i had mine done. so i asked about any kind of discount and she said well i would have to come to memphis and pay 10 for a reavaulation!!! would not quote a price on the phone not even a ballpark. i realize if i were booking surgury of course the dr would evululate me. but one i researched long and hard for him whose to say his partner is anygood. now i dont know what to do as i consider my results top notch. also to add she was such a bitch that i told her they needed a new receptionist as she was a snotty rude bitch... so now what

I would either find a completely different doctor or just keep the implants you have. It might not be too bad of an idea to research doctors anyway, just in case you have a deflation or something. When you're having "boob drama" is not when you want to go looking for a new surgeon.

You might want to check out Dr. Harry Eisenberg in Maitland Fl. He's been doing dancers' and celebrity boob jobs for decades. He has a website at

Also in regard to the degree of overfill, the "baseball" look usually results when there's like 40% or 50% overfill beyond the implant rating - not 10%. 20% just starts to add a bit of extra roundness and firmness.

well, if it's any consolation, I have had my boobs done five times. I used three different doctors, one in upstate NY, one in Manhattan, and one in Houston. Trust me, I learned the hard way that "specialists" are worth every penny. Dr. Eisenberg is a "specialist" in your area, and so is Dr. Posner at the Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Ft. Lauderdale.
