Magazine writers pretty well sum up the general public's impression of 6" stiletto heel shoes - they're referred to as "Fuck Me Pumps". Although it's none of anyone else's business, I virtually never wear heels this high anywhere but in a club - and I keep them in my dance bag when I'm not wearing them.

I have a friend who runs a lingerie store and she sells those kind of shoes to all kinds of women (and a few men). She told me that most of her sales of shoes came from the non-stripping public, and guys really liked to see them on their wives and girlfriends.

A few people have seen mine and asked about them. I just tell them that my husband likes them, which he does.

If you are not wearing them in the club, you look out of place and kinda goofy, because you are out of the norm now. Everyone else is wearing pumps or flats, all attention on your shoes. Rude comments may be made, and you may be mistaken for a hooker. I see it alot at the hospital i work in. It looks stupid. And they are not made to walk in or dance for that matter anyway, They were just made to make us be seen on stage, and sexy. Since shoes like that don't go with our bone structure, and knock our posture out of whack while walking. However they are "stripper shoes." They belong in the club only to not be mistaken for a hooker. Pamela

Here in seattle, you NEVER see anyone wearing 6" heels on the street. In fact, 3" heels are pretty darned rare. I think I've seen ONE pair of platform heels out on the streets here in the last couple of years.

However, I go up to Vancouver, BC, pretty frequently, and downtown 4+ inche heels are VERY common, and in fact you occasionsionally see what you and I commonly think of as stripper shoes out on the street.

I've never worn 'em anywhere other than in a club when I'm dancing. I'm short naturally (5'4") and so wear 3" heels a LOT, but that's the limit for me outside of a club.

If someone saw your stripper shoes who shouldn't have - most likely they can guess you are a stripper. If you didn't want that person to know you're a stripper, you're probably caught. But maybe you could cover it over with a story about some Halloween costume that you backed out on, or something like that.

I'd say it was more like 5-10 years ago up here in Ontario that I saw a pair of the old stilleto. But I know in the fashion world they are yet again making a come back.....or have they ever left?

You could laugh it off, talk about what a hoot the shoes are, that [insert ex's name here] had a fetish for stripper shoes and bought you that very pair for wearing in the bedroom.

May be too late for that, though.

I had quit dancing for a while and went back to it in 2001. I had always like wearing boots. The highest heel I would ever wear was maybe four inches. I am a trained dancer and I feel I get more ankle support while still looking "sexy." However, the club I went back to had a lot of short, Latin-looking woman working there. I am petite also, 5'2" and most of them were as short as me and most of them heavier. Once out on the floor, I noticed that all of the other dancers were towering over me!! I'm like, how can this be possible when we were all the same height in the dressing room?

Hence, my introduction to "stripper shoes". When I do an audition, I still use boots. I move a lot better that way. I know one tiny dancer who wears 7 inchers!

    Not for me!!

    Cheers,

I actually did buy my 7" platform stilletto boots to wear with my Halloween costume last year. Hence my explanation of why I own them! I wore them out to a dance club on Halloween and can't even remember how many times my knees buckled under me and I even fell to the floor a few times because I wasn't used to wearing them. Now I wear them at work and may as well be barefoot.

But no I wouldn't wear them outside the club for anything other than Halloween or like a Pimp N Ho party or something! I wear 5" heels with jeans and they look normal...I think any kind of platforms 6" and over are a dead give away that either you are a stripper (or you want to look like one).

6 inch heels - doncha just love 'em? Although I've never worn mine outside, I would definitely not hesitate to try that out. I normally get away with murder in my dress sense so I doubt cinderella tartlet shoes will make anyone think I'm a hooker.

I've seen all sorts of out-of-place shoes in public from bowling shoes to tie-up ballerina pumps. It's all about wearing them with pride as well because if you look uncomfortable in them in public, it'll show and be more likely to arouse comments from people.

I live in Seattle, and I see heels and platforms EVERYWHERE!! I've even seen thigh high boots (RED) in a regular ol' nightclub. The stores are full of those shoes- and I'm not talking about stripper stores, Nordstrom, the Bon, they all caught up and realized how sexy these shoes are.
I even wore my Frederick's of Hollywood silver, open toe, no platform, 6 inch heels to the Seahawks private Christmas party, along with my dark blue velvet ankle length gown w/silver flowers along the skirt slit. I may have been the only one wearing SILVER heels, I most definitely was not the only one in heels.
I don't even hang out with dancers, but 4+ inches is pretty common with my friends or in the clubs.
