    Default Face Washing

Hi. I was wondering what you ladies used to wash your face. I ask because I, in my daily regimen, put my face through some pretty rough treatment (I won't go into detail, but it involves a nail brush) and I think my skin and I are now a little too old to be doing this to my skin. Yet, I do not want to pay $20.00 a day to wash my face and the drug store aisle is frankly overwhelming in its options. So I would appreciate any advice or product endorsement.

Thank you in advance (but that is only for the people who respond. The rest of you can go to hell. That was a joke. Ha ha.)

Hi Jenny, i am in my 30's and i use dove to remove my makeup every night. In the morning i don't use soap. Just a hot (as hot as i can stand it) washcloth to losen up dead skin drapped over my face, then i let it cool down to warm. After it's cooled i splash very cold water over my face. The temp. changes get blood moving to the surface, and has been great for my skin using this simple inexpensive ritual. Once a week i use a apricot facial scrub on my face. No pimples, or blemishes. I also use retin a and a alpha hydroxy (over the counter) product as well. (only because i spent many years in the sun,.being stupid with my very light skin.) Yep, i can put my skin through some tough procedures. But only soap (mild) once a day. And i always us a moisture lotion while my skin is still slightly damp. This will seal in water for a bit longer. Since water is the moisture our skin needs lotion just feels good, and is used as a sealer.
Sorry long, but i have many beauty rituals i go through! Skin, hair, teeth. Gosh. Ok im done. PS mild soap, and steam are the best with a moisture lotion to seal in water after cleaning. We are a TOO overly clean society! We do more harm by over washing, than not enough washing. Pamela

I use Dr. Bronner's Baby soap (diluted) and a complexion brush. I use Renova at night and Origins sunscreen during the day under my makeup (apply this lightly or it leaves a whitish cast on dark skin). I have combination skin and this works well for me; it was my naturopath's suggestion. I have good skin but I never realize exactly how much this is doing for me until I deviate from this ritual!

Also water, water, water; a spoonfull of flaxseed oil and a generally healthy diet.

Before we get to what I actually use on my skin... I will emphasise that I try to drink alot of water during my day (as well as when I'm working at the club).

Besides the water, I also try to eat healthy... if not healthy, at least I have some good quality vitamin suppliments.

To help all that... I use "Ponds Cleaner and Toner" (2 in 1) to wash all my make-up off before I go to bed. Before I go to work I use Herbalife skin care products: Gentle Exfoliant followed by Skin Activator and Lift. I also use Oil of Olay "Total Effects" for moisturisation.

This is what works for me.

Olay Daily Facials are great for removing makeup after work. They clean, exfoliate, and easily remove makeup. They're gentle, and best of all disposable, so you go through much fewer washclothes.

I use Nivea Foam Cleanser every day and I used to have these tiny little pimples on my forehead. (you could not see them, but if you ran your hand across you could feel the...really tiny)I dont have them anymore since I started doing this.

Also, if you do it on your chest you can avoid them there as well. (tidbit from a mag) =)

After a night of work, I wash with DHC's oil cleanser. It's actually made with Olive Oil, adheres to all of the sebum and makeup and completely is water-soluble while not stripping the skin of it's natural (and vital) properties. I'll tone with cooled chammomile tea. Once a week I use MD Formulations - a glycolic face wash, to gently exfoliate the skin, and otherwise, I sometimes use powdered milk and water (another natural alpha hydroxy exfoliant) or just splash with lukewarm water. If I want a heavier exfoliant, I use honey and refined sugar. (honey is excellent for extracting blackheads, by the way). All I know is my skin is the healthiest it's ever been, I rarely if ever have a breakout, and I save a helluva lot of money! Pam is right in making the point that we all do more harm than good by over washing - and also with harsh products loaded with harsh chemicals.

I have oily skin and use some serious stage make up when I feature, with all the dirt and smoke and perspiration in the bar....I need a serious cleansing!
Mellelueca anti bacterial liquid soap. Made with tea tree oil of the highest concentration. Luke warm water and I wash twice.
Cold water splash and then I use a lactic acid solution (12%) for my night cream (brand name LacHydrin).
In the morning I use a warm wash with water only rinsing several times and pat dry.
Then an extremely expensive but oh so worth it SPF lotion for daytime.
By Daniello, its called solar eclipse 30, and it is a full spectrum UVA UVB & UVC!! I really like this product for the natural blocking agent 'titanium dioxide' it absorbs oil!!! Has whole leaf aloe too. Amazing product.

    Jacqueline-
How do you use the honey to extract blackheads. As a scrub with sugar, as a mask? I would LOVE to know!

The absolute best way to remove blackheads naturally is hot water, Epsom salt & iodine - you saturate a cotton ball and dab it on the area and squeeze it out with a gauze pad. After the area is removed of the blackhead, I'll dab honey on it (it draws out bacteria and cleans the pore) and leave it on for about 10 minutes...
When I want to use a scrub, i'll use honey & sugar as a regular scrub in the shower. don't scrub hard, and use finely granulated sugar because it can scratch the surface of your skin! :-/

I have been using Oil of Olay Foaming Face Wash for about eleven years, twice a day. It's one of those items I would want to have if stranded on a deserted island. It makes your skin feel clean, not greasy afterwards. They also make the cleansing cloths, which someone mentioned earlier. I use that, and then moisturizer, usually Clinique's.

I agree with Heather that the Oil of Olay Daily Facials are excellent. I really like Cetaphil also; it's really good at removing makeup and oil but doesn't make your skin feel tight or dry. It's great for people with sensitive skin.

I just use Dove soap. As an exfoliant, I use St. Ives apricot scrub. It's cheap, about $3.00 and it's lasts for a long time. Every once and awhile I'll apply Queen Helene's Mint Juleup face mask. It literally takes away any blemishes (white/blackheads and pimples) and leaves your skin glowing.

Whne I get up in the mornings, I use Loreal Pure Zone Deep Cleansing Cream Cleanser cuz it has menthol in it that helps me wake up in a BIG way. Nights, I clean the makeup off with simple toner and a cotton ball, then finish with either a brown sugar scrub or pore refiner masks, both by Avon.

I've tried everything from noxema to clinique to lancome, and nearly everything in between. The miricle product I've found is johnsons clean and clear daily face wash in the purple and blue tube. My skin has never looked so good. I've turned all of my friends on to it, and they have the same results.

I wash twice at night, once to remove make up, and once to actually clean the skin. I do not use a toner, makes me red and dry in places, not to mention I sem to break out more with it. I also use the body shop's tea tree oil moisturizer. This alos helps keep skin clear along with moisturizing it. my skin is in the best shape it's been in since I was in junior high.

I'm another Oil of Olay user. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new pillows they've come out with. They make cleaning a breeze (which helps after work when I want quick and easy *g*). One side is made to exfoliate and the other is a smooth side with conditioners. Breakouts have been non-existant.

I use clean & clear continuous control cleanser w/ benzoyl peroxide in it. it smells menthol-like and it's a little drying, but it keeps my face super clear so it's worth it. "clean clear and under control..." right....
if I want to do something special, I wash my face, then lay a warm washcloth on it for 1 min. after that, I scrub w/ an exfoilating cleanser.....like st. ives apricot....my skin gets all red and glowy like I had a facial...and for a good price!!

Yeah that St. Ives scrub is the shit, for sensitive skin the pits can be a bit big though. I've you've got the bling for it...the best, all time BEST skincare line out there is dermatologica...you can only buy it at beauty specialty stores and the prices are pretty damn ouchy...however, i've never ever ever come across anything like it...check it out, but be prepared to shell out some serious cash for it.

I have tried so many different products and spent so much money on creams and lotions and potions its not funny.
The problem is with alot of commericial products is the only help your skin when you are using them i.e: oil of ulay has an effect on the skin to bring water to the face making it seem and feel more soft, full and wrinkle free. But you stop using it for a week or two and see what happens! Some goes for all your other products. I think you can really tell the benefit of a product when you see how your skin looks after you haven't been using it for awhile. Usually because of all the chemicals and shit added to products your skin normally doesn't feel good without them because they have dried and tortured your skin (I speak from experience). I have gone back to basics! If I am wearing make up first I remove with a rosehip oil creamy cleasner (or a light oil such as olive can be good but try and choose one that is suitable for your skin type) I cover my face and then gently take it off with cooton pads.If I am not wearing make up I go straight to step 2 which is.... I use chickpea flour as a daily cleanser... it sounds weird but its great! Just a teaspoon of (organic) chickpea (also known as besan) flour mixed in the palm of your hand with a little water and then rub onto face. Its nice and light and is also a gentle exfloater. Fill the basin up with warm water and add a few drops of essiential oil (suited to your skin... I like lavendar) and rinse with that. If it is night I use nothing as it is important to let you skin breathh and renew itself... if its daytime I use a little coconut oil with a drop of lavendar. Oils are a great natural product to use on the skin and actually help to rebalance the skins natural oils.
I also use oil as an all over lotion and it is also great to shave with. Just smoother your legs with it in the shower and shave as normal (using a good razor is also important) and it often eleminates the need for a moistriser.

Ok long story short.... I wash with chickpea flour
