    Default keeping thigh highs up?!?

Okay, one of my customers LOVES thigh high stockings on a girl so I went out and bought some and wore them Friday night. I even bought a garter belt thingy to keep them up, but when I tried dancing the garter belt kept moving and my stockings kept sliding down. My question is, how do you keep those damn things from falling down? This girl at my previous club had thigh highs that had some kind of plastic or something on the inside of the top that helped to keep them up but I have no idea where you could get a pair of those? And I made a ton of money on Friday so I think the stockings are good luck...so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi Theresa, i buy mine at Sears, and they are the "wide band elastic" stockings. They stick to your legs very well for many weeks. The key i have found, is when they need washed, i do so by hand, and never let the elastic band touch water. I never put them in a dryer. I hang them by hand inside my bathroom. Usually before the band stops sticking to my legs, i will ruin them by getting a run. They are great! Also i do not rub lotion on my thighs if i know i am going to wear them. Sometimes i will have sweat under them when i come home from work, i think my body sweat helps some (may sound strange) but lotion underneath the band only makes them "not" hold as tight, causing some slip. Also if you can get away with it, buy a pair a size smaller, the band will be tighter. Pamela

You're going to think I am nuts, but it's what bikini dancers in Idaho use to keep those damned triangle-tops from sliding all over the place. And you know we must be certain it works, because one little bit of nipple showing, and we're talking a fat fine....

Go to a wig shop. Ask them for the water-soluble wig glue that comes in a roll-on bottle. Should run you between $7-15 for a bottle. One bottle should last you months, and it works a lot more effectively than Bikini Bite.

Pull your thigh-highs on, but leave the top portion down just a few inches. You roll-on a thin layer of this glue on the area of skin where you want fabric to stick. It is clear and almost completely odorless, so nobody is going to notice the stuff, even through the band on your thigh-highs. Once the glue is where you want it, you carefully pull your thigh-highs the rest of the way up, over the layer of glue, and smooth them into place.

When you wan to remove them, you just pull the nylon away from your skin - it shouldn't be any more uncomfortable than pulling apiece of Scotch tape off your hand, if even that - and remove your nylons as usual. Then, removing the remaining glue on your legs is as simple as a few swipes with a baby wipe or damp paper-towel. All you have to do for your nylons to remove the glue is hand or machine wash them.

A word of caution: Make sure to remove the glue before putting on your next outfit. If you leave it on, it will cause all kinds of lint and fuzzies to stick to your skin, which will show up under the blacklights.

Victoria's Secret thigh highs have the elastic band on them...plus they are great quality. I highly recommend.

Theresa, what you bought were stockings, just regular stockings that do indeed require a garter belt to keep them up. With all the moving around we do, they are bound to slide around, as will the garter straps.

What you want to find are thigh-highs, and it'll say thigh-highs on the package. Brand is a matter of personal preferece, though I agree with Athena that the Victoria's Secret ones last a really long time. I also like them because you can get ones with a really pretty, decorative lacy top that I think are much sexier than the plain elastic bands (also you won't get as much of a thigh bulge with them). I buy tons of these and I wear them a lot.

I love McCain's tip - I'm already thinking of uses for that wig glue.

For thigh highs, believe it or not, Wallmart has some really good ones that stay up very well, and fishnets even.....I have used them over and over, washing them each time in the washer, not even by hand.....
I bought them in a bind a few years ago, and found out they were some of the best I could find and not to expensive....

You might need a different brand of glue. The professional wig stuff is made for people who are bald (primarily women and kids), so that their hair pieces will not easily come off. And I think most of us can imagine how sweaty that would get. So it stands to reason that many brands formulate for more sensitive skin.

Personally, I never experienced any rashes, and I have very sensitive skin. The worst I ever had was a little bit of minor irritation from removing fabric that was stuck on, when I first started using the stuff. That didn't last more than about two weeks.

There is also the small chance that you may have a low-level allergy to one of the ingredients. That would cause contact dermatitis.

Yea McCain, no doubt contact dermatitis. I have stopped using any glue. See, my legs will sweat underneath the band ...always. And i think the combo. is of no hlep to me. I wil have to go back to my original way of making my bands last longer. And it al worked fine. But i thought the glue thing was a good idea. The redness is starting to fade now. No itching. But looked ugly. I have not danced the past few nights, so this will clear quickly. Even nipple glue ws a problem. Oh well, go figure....all our bodies are different. Pamela :-/

I like thigh highs and garter belts. (Are you sure you didn't just use a garter, the decorative band that goes around your leg?) My problem is getting runs in them, even in Victoria's Secret ones, which is especially upsettinghaving paid so much money for them. A brand I get at wal Mart that I like is called Loveables. They have nice sticky bands and have regular or fishnet and even a pair with sparkleys in them.

I agree that the Wal Mart brand are great; they stay up better and are more durable than the Victoria's Secret kind, and for only around $5.00 per pair!

Megan are the Walmart brand thick elastic? Are they ealstic bands, or do you need a garter belt to hold them up? I can't find them in Walmart around here. Only the real skinny bands, that i don't care for when dancing? Pamela

Thanks everyone for the replies. I DID end up going to Wal-Mart and I found these awesome thigh-highs with the strip inside that stay up no matter how much I move around at work. The brand was Simply Basic, I believe. And yes Pamela, the elastic brands are thick enough so that you don't need a garter belt to hold them up.
(But I still wear mine for decoration b/c I think it looks hot.)
