    Default Makeup Company Subdivisions?

I know that some higher end makeup companies own smaller companies. Or produce makeup under more than one name....

What are some of the companies? And have you personally found there to REALLY be a difference in the products besides price?

    Thanks!

I know Clariol has a few different small companies under them. Damn i will have to look it up in the magazine, i can't find it. They list alot, because of animal testing. And very few ingredients are taken out of the cheaper end products. But...the MOST important ingredients are taken out that are good for your skin, like certain moisturisers, etc, on the cheaper brands. I will hunt the article up and send the info. There are a few big names actually that have smaller names following under the label. Pamela

L'Oreal is Lancome, Redken, Maybelline, Cacharel, Biotherm,CCB, Garnier,Giorgio Armani parfums, Helena Rubenstein, Kerastase, Kiehl's, LaRoche-Posay, Matrix, Ombrelle, Ralph Lauren Parfums, Vichy, Redken 5th Avenue NYC, Shu Eumura, and Softsheen Carson.
Amazing, its like the Kevin Bacon game. It seems like L'oreal is determined to be part of your day through one product or another.

Now I don't know because I am a cross dresser or anything, they are a client of mine. But Estee Lauder also makes Clinique, Aramis, Prescriptives, Origins, M.A.C, Bobbi Brown, La Mer, jane, Aveda, Stila, Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan and Kate Spade. Their company store is insane if you ever get a chance to go.

Miss - my friend is a head chemist for L'oreal, specifically Ralph Lauren, and she told me that no, chemically there is no difference. You might see different formulations for some things, but that's just b/c the product is named differently. I have another friend who works with L'oreal, and her job is basically to help people who want to begin their own m/u lines begin. Basically, they buy your name, you must use their colors/formulations, and just pay to put your name on it. It's bizarre -

Pam- you can go to the PETA website to see about animal testing companies. I also have a great book that exposes the cosmetic companies that animal test - so if you want to know about any specific line or product, just let me know.

Thanks NYCjacqueline, i can't find my book. I will have to go to the website.
I would like to point out however that in cosmetics (some) and shampoo ect. the words Quaternium 15 is in fact formaldahyde.

These two may not be owned by the same company, but they ARE produced in the same Italian factory. Calvin Klein and Sonia Kashuk (available only at Target) have some remarkably similar products in their respective lines. Only difference is Sonia's products are a fraction of the price of Calvin Klein.

Heather - yes, I just saw Sonia's line a few weeks ago - great packaging - but haven't tried the products. I'll have to look into that...

So if the brands really aren't THAT different, why does everyone buy the expensive version?

MissBehavin, pretty jars, lids, proper wording, etc. We seem as humans to be atracted to anything (even products) that look good and smell good. Pamela

LOL - so true. Not only that, but when you see a color that you like, you just get it. Who has time to go to a Lancome counter, see the eyeshadow or lipstick, remember it and it's color, go to the drugstore and then look for the same color (all while it's always "called" something else) and look for it under L'oreal. The cleansers, etc are just a given - but with the makeup -there's so many colors & varieties all with different catchy titles that no one has the time or energy to do that research.

    Jacqueline-
Sonia's line has GREAT loose powder. As finely milled as T. LE Clerc or Chanel.
I'm sure you already have great brushes in your kit, but the ones in this line are a steal for the quality. Especially the big powder brush and the blush brush.

I can always use more brushes, though ( to avoid cross contamination - especially on shows when you're dealing with more than 2 girls) So I'll check that out. Problem is - I'm not near a Target! Can you believe there's no Target in NYC? I will wait to get to visit family in NJ...
