    Default well my KNEES are killing me!

    Lower back and feet are ok so far, but damn my knees are a mess!!! My club has only one tiny stage and no pole. I try to do floor work since my balance sucks in 6 inch stilettos but any crawling or kneeling bruises the shit out of my knees. I am very pale which makes it even worse. I have ice bags & arnica on my knees now...any other suggestions?

    Maybe try Comfrey (plant).

    Do some research first though.

    When I first started dancing, I too had awful bruises on my knees and they hurt very much. Eventually your body will get used to it and it will not hurt as much. What you could do is bring a blanket on stage when you do your floorwork. I have seen girls do this before, I think it kinda reminds guys of a girl being in bed and they love it! It also keeps you from getting dirty if you lay on the stage because, think about how many girls go on stage and how dirty the bottom of their shoes must be. Especially in the club i am at now b/c management at my club must be unclear on the concept of cleaning a stage :-/....

    I know exactly what you mean. When i first started my knees killed. Eventually your knees will toughen up and you won't bruise as much. After a few months my knees hurt inside the joint. It was coming to the point that I had to do something about it or quit dancing because it was really affecting my life. I could hardly squat down and after doing a private dance I could not put any weight on one of them for a few min. I would have to hobble back to the dressing room and wait a little bit before resuming work. Anyway, a friend who does ballet told me to try glucosamine and chondrotin supplements and it was like a miracle! So, if it is more than just bruising you may want to consider this.

    I was just watching a little women's volleyball and thinking to myself, "Why are kneepads so sexy?" And I was envying them.

    If you're doing a lot of floorwork, take it easy for a few days to get used to it - also, the supplements do work, and for bruising I recommend taking homeopathic arnica as well as using an ointment.

    Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. The arnica is helping a lot. Until the bruises fade completely, I'm wearing thigh-highs to cover them up.

    Hi Nichole!
    I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit more about the supplements you suggest for knee pain.
    After many years dancing & about 5 wrestling my knees are shot! I get fluid build up & the doctor has me on Naproxin for the inflammation & painkillers for the pain.
    How much do the supplements really help? Any further information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

    Hi JustaGirl. I would swear by these. It was amazing. My knees were getting so bad that could not squat down in the grocerie store without being near tears. At 21 years of age I felt like crippled. With two small children that was not an option. I seriously thought I was going to have to quit dancing. I was taking Aleve and Tylenol Arthritis everyday with little improvement. I even went to a chiro about it. A friend of mine told me about glucosamine and chondrotin. She got hers at GNC, but I found some at Walmart for less. I did take her bottle with to match ingredients. I only bought the one bottle and the difference was so amazing. Before the bottle was gone my knees were tons better. The ingredients in this supplement helps your body build cartilage. That was 3 years ago and I have never bought another bottle. My body just needed a little help. I may need to take them again in the future, but I definately won't let it get so bad next time. The way I look at it is, what could it hurt to give it a try. If it helps with the pain it will be worth it. Hope this helps and anymore questions feel free to ask! I can look for the bottle I have and post the ingredients if you want. Oh, my friend also suggested that I try rubbing Tiger Balm on my knees.

    Wow, thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to try that. My joints have been really stiff lately. Monday's I joke wiath a few regulars that the snaps and pops of my joints are a free bonus.

    I heard that preparation-h is supposed to help get rid of bruising. Not sure- never tried it, but I guess it's worth a shot!

    Knee pads are the shit! When I first started dancing, one of the girls told me to get knee pads. They're easily covered up with thigh high stockings, they peek out cutely from knee high boots, and they save your knees so much damage.

    The only problem is, they don't go with most things dancers wear.

    I take glucosamine as well. Years of ballet murdered my joints. I also take Vitamin E.

    I recommend stretching 3-5 times a day to prevent any permanent damage. Slow easy stretches of all your joints lasting 30 seconds to a minute. It helps alot after about 2-3 days.
