You have a very interesting site. Thanks for putting it up.

I’m writing to get opinions on an idea I have.

My wife is a Mary Kay cosmetics sales director. I’m trying to help her win a pink Cadillac and I thought dancers would be a good group of women to consider.

What she really needs are women (or men) to sign up to distribute cosmetics form Mary Kay. When they sign up, they can then buy all their cosmetics and skin care items at 50% off the retail price. I’m thinking dancers go thru a lot of makeup and definitely need to take care of their skin. The person who signed up to distribute the products could sell the products at full retail or just get with other dancers to by as a group at wholesale prices.

Do you think people in the industry would be interested in doing this, if so what would be the best way to get the word out? I’m trying to help my wife add 80 distributors by the end of March.

To give you an example a Mary Kay lipstick retails at $12, distributors buy it from the company for $6 (plus retail sales tax) so about $6.99 total.

    A cleanser is $18 retail, wholesale $9 + tax

    Thanks for your help.

    Bryan

it could work....just go to strip clubs and talk to the housemoms. They might like doing that kind of thing.

I've tried this myself - I broke even at best. The major problem was that things would "come up missing" from my dressing room stock while I was on stage or in the VIP room.

    Thanks ladies,

What exactly is a housemom? Is it a title of someone I can call the club and ask for? or do I need to know her name when calling?

Would she receive mail at the club addressed to Housemom?

    thanks again

I doubt a "mail order" approach would ever work. Your best bet (probably only bet) is to have your wife go into the clubs and personally approach the Housemoms with this business proposal. But I'll be honest and tell you that since this requires a cash up front investment on the part of the Housemoms to buy a "kit" of cosmetics to resell that your wife's chances of success with Housemoms are slim to none. If your wife were willing to "front" the merchandise to the Housemoms without payment expected in advance that would be a different story. However, this would also make your wife liable for any missing merchandise instead of the Housemom!

At least if your wife makes the rounds of the clubs she'll have the opportunity for making some direct sales to the dancers! Dancers are fairly accustomed to seeing "travelling salespersons" dropping in weekly/bimonthly at the clubs selling costumes and other stuff - why not cosmetics ? As I said, all dancers need cosmetics and Mary Kay products are great. But the big risk factor is someone having to leave their "samples" unattended if they have other responsibilities at the club i.e. dancer, waitress, housemom, and having to eat any losses. A "travelling salesperson" who can keep her merchandise with her every minute would not be subject to being ripped off.

Since this is about Mary Kay... I'm wondering what everyone's opinions are of other such companies:
Herbalife, Amway and Avon for example. ??? ???

What are your personal opinions of the products (the products not necessarily the company) ??? ???

I ask because I know one person who is an "Avon lady" and another person who sells Herbalife. I just want to know whether anyone on this board has used any products from any of these companies and what have been YOUR results ???

In re: the Herbalife products - they have skin care ("outer nutrition") products that I've been thinking of trying out. Same with Avon.. they have a few products as well ...

    ??? ???

In general, all three companies have a handful of products which are very good. My favorite club perfume is in fact 'Pearl Noir' from Avon! All three companies also have the vast majority of products which are either not very good or not a very good deal price wise.
