    Default Should I move out?

Ok, I need some help here... I'm 21 in Feb and in jr. college. Next year, I'm transfering but staying sort of in my area anyways... Only my sister and bestest best friend know that I'm a dancer so if I moved out, it would be by myself (I couldn't handle a roommate anyways). I get along with my 'rents but I'm always scared they're gonna freak out. The only problem is, the area of san diego I live in (and want to stay in) costs about a total of $1500 a month. I make... 4-5,000 a month. Should I move out or stay with my parents as long as possible? What situation are you guys all in? [frustrated]
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

I heard something once that seems to be very true.

Bills = freedom.... more of one equals more of the other and less of one equals less of the other.

You need to find a place where you're comfortable. How important is freedom to you?

You say your scared your parents are gonna freak out. If this is too stressful a situation for you, move out. Otherwise, if I were your age, I'd stick it out at home a little while longer and save every dime I could. Trust me, you will never again be as rich as you are now.

Have you conisdered buying a house or condo? That way the money isn't totally wasted and you will be investing in yourself as well.

Sit down and figure out how much it would cost you to live on your own, including rent/utilities/groceries/etc. Set up an account and deposit that exact amount into the account (or a shoe box under your bed) for the next few months. Then think about it.

maybe you should think about hiring a financial planner. they will help you manage your $$ so that it grows instead of being thrown away.

Money really does buy freedom. without it, you are always someone's captive, under someone else's control....be it your parents, your boyfriend, etc.

i agree w/ Lena. that is a really good peice of advice. that way you will see if you have enough $$ and are comfortable living that way.

Well, the key question is whether that $4-5,000 per month you're earning is before taxes or after taxes. As posted elsewhere in this section, there is a very high probability that California dancers are going to be slapped with 1099 income reports for their 2003 earnings next January. If this is the case then your $4-5,000 in gross earnings may turn into $2,500-$3,000 in after tax earnings, which after $1,500 in rent is subtracted may leave you in a precarious financial position.

Living in the major CA cities with astronomical rents, gas at over $2.00 a gallon, no Super Wal-Marts due to strict union rules resulting in your paying 20-25% more for groceries than in other less restrictive states and being you are in San Diego which is on a vendetta against strip clubs is not a favorable position to be in having fixed expenses of over $2000 a month. Business could drop drastically at any time there due to tougher club enforcement.

Mainstream jobs pay above average wages in large CA cities to compensate for higher costs of living but the money you make dancing is not any better or in many cases is worse than what you would earn in less expensive states.

Other girls who earn what you do dancing in other cities around the county with the exception of the New York City area and Boston pay half or even less for rent than you are facing.

Anything over about $750 a month rent in my opinion is too much. That puts you in a position of having a roommate, or dancing and finishing college in a more affordable state as obviously you cannot live with your parents forever but can stay there long enough to save some money and decide which path you will take.

I would save all you can and live with the parents if you can so when you graduate you can live comfortable and you will be able to study more if you dont have to work all the time to pay rent.....trust me i go to school and i wish i had the option of living with my parents...
