I have a hard time making myself save, so I set up an account with ING, an online bank, where they take a set amount of money out of my checking every week and put it into a savings account. I think this is a good first step to socking away money and since it takes a day to get at it (through a transfer to your checking), I can't just hit the ATM and bleed it dry for an "emergency" shopping trip - though it is there in case of a real emergency.
This is the first auto-savings plan I've used where I've actually let the money stay in savings; thought it might help others trying to start a nest egg.
