    Default DJ trouble?

OK. After taking a break from dancing I am going back tomorrow. I'm going to audition at a new club. This club has a couple full time DJ's. I've never worked in a club that had a DJ all the time. Most of the clubs I've worked in, we just pick our own music on the jukebox. But now there is going to be someone else picking my music for me. My question is, how do I convince the DJ to play music that I like to dance to? And how do I deal with a DJ that is entirely uncooperative? The manager of the club told me that the DJs can be a little touchy sometimes. Does anyone have any advice?

The only thing that I can think of is to tip them well to play what you want to dance to. All clubs I have worked at have DJs, but the girls would bring their own CDs and pick what they wanted. Sometimes I would get lazy and let the DJ pick out music for me but they would always play stuff I didn't know or like, and I get more into the stage performance when I am dancing to music that I like. If I were you and asked the DJ to play certain songs for me and he just didn't feel like playing them for me, I would tip the bare minimum until he became a little more cooperative.

When a new dancer comes to me and asks for a certain song or genre of music, I try my hardest to get it on for her.. after all I'm being paid by you girls so I might as well ensure ya enjoy your sets! There have been times where I just couldn't do it and I usually explain why(either I don't have it,being a rock dj I really don't have much r&b for example,or we just had 5 sets of r&b and I needed to break it up and wake up the guys or the song has been played so many times I just can't play it anymore, perfect example ANYTHING by creed)If I'm in a crappy mood and a dancer asks for a song that will just amplify my bad mood i ask if there is a second choice....
I say just ask and if the d.j. is decent he will do it, if not just tip exactly what the club states you have to ad eventually he should get the point.
