I've noticed for a while that most of the music I like best for work is very different from what everyone else is dancing to and that I never hear any of my favorite music in clubs or anything, and that no one else ever seems to know of my favorite songs or DJs. So I''m talking to one of the DJs (the best one I''ve worked with as far as music and mixing skill) and since he knows my style really well I ask him what type of music I like. He says almost everything I bring in is Electroclash and all my favorite stuff fits into that genre. Heavy bass, strong beats, little high-pitched fluff to distract from the heavy beat, and often robotic vocals. He also says its new, still pretty obscure and has only started to really get popular in the last 2-3 years.
So I was curious and did a yahoo search - found alot of sites, artists and stuff I never knew. I searched for some of the artists on WinMX and found a bunch of new songs I like. The search also pulled up info about a couple artists I've enjoyed for a while, Miss Kittin and Felix da Housecat, apparently they are pioneers in the genre. But the DJ was right - I do like the style of stuff I've been pulling up. What the hell? Am I behind or what? Has anyone else heard of this stuff? Anyone else into it? Know any other artists to check out? A couple current ones I found are Ladytron and Düse - I downloaded songs I really like from both.
Oh and something else I found interesting - remember 'Tainted Love' by Soft Cell back in the 80s? Apparently that is now considered old-school Electroclash. LOL And the DJ says this music is made from a big old machine they used in the 80s to make alot of the old-school rap and early techno. HAHA either some of us are still stuck in the 80s or that saying 'what's old is new again' applies.
Anyway it's nice to at least have a name for my fav music because guys ask me every night what music I like, often right after I got offstage!
Anyone else into this stuff?

). Someone found a Chicks on Speed song I liked but I've never been able to re-track it down. Electroclash was really starting to get big in Seattle when I lived there a couple yeas back. There is also a cool song by Urceus Exit that I am trying to find again that is slow and sort of dark but somehow robotically sensual (!!??!). I must find the title and post it.
