    Default Electroclash?

I've noticed for a while that most of the music I like best for work is very different from what everyone else is dancing to and that I never hear any of my favorite music in clubs or anything, and that no one else ever seems to know of my favorite songs or DJs. So I''m talking to one of the DJs (the best one I''ve worked with as far as music and mixing skill) and since he knows my style really well I ask him what type of music I like. He says almost everything I bring in is Electroclash and all my favorite stuff fits into that genre. Heavy bass, strong beats, little high-pitched fluff to distract from the heavy beat, and often robotic vocals. He also says its new, still pretty obscure and has only started to really get popular in the last 2-3 years.

So I was curious and did a yahoo search - found alot of sites, artists and stuff I never knew. I searched for some of the artists on WinMX and found a bunch of new songs I like. The search also pulled up info about a couple artists I've enjoyed for a while, Miss Kittin and Felix da Housecat, apparently they are pioneers in the genre. But the DJ was right - I do like the style of stuff I've been pulling up. What the hell? Am I behind or what? Has anyone else heard of this stuff? Anyone else into it? Know any other artists to check out? A couple current ones I found are Ladytron and Düse - I downloaded songs I really like from both.

Oh and something else I found interesting - remember 'Tainted Love' by Soft Cell back in the 80s? Apparently that is now considered old-school Electroclash. LOL And the DJ says this music is made from a big old machine they used in the 80s to make alot of the old-school rap and early techno. HAHA either some of us are still stuck in the 80s or that saying 'what's old is new again' applies.

Anyway it's nice to at least have a name for my fav music because guys ask me every night what music I like, often right after I got offstage!

    Anyone else into this stuff?

HEY! I know Felix the housecat. And you aren't behind at all Bridgette, Felix is tearing things up in VA Beach.

    Yes, I dig electroclash.

A lot of it is similiar to Industrial.

    Old electroclash I like:
    Cabaret Voltaire-Sensoria
    Frank Tovey-Back to Nature+Ricky's Hand
    CJ Bolland-Sugar is Sweeter
    I'll think of more later

I dance to Fischerspooner, Ladytron and Miss Kittin at work. The one DJ here told me that to them it was old news (they are just *so* cutting edge, ). Someone found a Chicks on Speed song I liked but I've never been able to re-track it down. Electroclash was really starting to get big in Seattle when I lived there a couple yeas back. There is also a cool song by Urceus Exit that I am trying to find again that is slow and sort of dark but somehow robotically sensual (!!??!). I must find the title and post it.

I've actually been finding comps lately that have remixes of very old songs (Gary Numan, Soft Cell, Cab Voltaire) all pumped up for the modern dancefloor. I know the Gary Numan one (Are Friends Electric) is on one called "Graver's Paradise". I have an awesome remix of Sex Dwarf but I don't know where it came from.

OK, it's a shot in the dark, but Chicks on Speed - Fashion Rules

And yes, Electroclash works very well because of it's sex appeal and easy dancibility, plus it doesnt really bother anyone, old or young

That's what I find - most people are digging my music, they've just never heard it before! But even for the ones who don't really dig it, they at least don't mind it. I'm finding alot of Fischerspooner and Ladytron I like, besides the Miss Kittin stuff I've liked for a while. And I know it's not exactly the same, but Benny Benassi's stuff really gets my blood pumping! I've downloaded everything I can find of his and it works really well. I always see customers chair-dancing when I use his stuff on stage.

    Veronika-

Fischerspooner came to Houston a couple of weeks ago. It was a lotta fun.
Graver's Paradise is found at Hot -Freakin-Topic....I really don't like the clotheres there. Sometimes good for CD's.

That was new to me too.... whaddayaknow... let's rename new wave to justify the new guard! hahahahaha. I'd also point out that there was more than one "big machine" they made music on in the 80s. My ex-husband used to sell vintage music gear so I'm kinda familiar...

And Hot Topic clothes... ugh! I feel my youth being trampled!

Oh! look for Urceus Exit's song "Good Morning Beautiful". They are a band out of Victoria BC. Kind of electroclash/industrial/techno.

Electroclash eh? Well, I learned about Miss Kittin and the Hacker through posts on this site, and love some of her songs, like "Hollywood" for example. I knew about Felix Da Housecat because he did the best remix of Madonna's "American life"!

Other older stuff you may want to consider is Nash The Slash material, and Fad Gadget, whose real name is Frank Tovey (mentioned above) if I am not mistaken.

Soft Cell had some great stuff on their 1st and 3rd cd's which fit in to the category, but I am wondering if anyone has heard that new cd they released last year?

Try any Le Tigre (esp. DFA remixes) or peaches? Peaches is awesome and her lyrics are often sassy and sexy. Also Mount Sims..the songs how we do and hate sex are fun to dance to and are extremely catchy.

Since discovering the whole electroclash genre through this site I have made some discoveries. It seems that it has become quite a thing in clubs all over but mainkly Europe and the US.

I got this great album cllaed "Suck me Deck". The DJ who mixed it is French, and it has some awesome tracks:
    http://www.react-music.co.uk/release/215/react.html
    My fave is "Moskow Reise"
Also got this Felix Da Housecat cd "Bugged out":
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...092700-2324653
This also has some great songs, with older remixes on cd 2 (I prefer cd 1 best).
Have also been getting into Miss Kittin even more, and Mount Sims. Has anyone head the Ultrasex cd? I can't find it in Hong Kong.

check out a group called the faint-- their track "worked up so sexual" is ideal, as well as a lot of stuff off of their danse macabre album.

miss kittin has a new album out called i.com. not sure how strippable it is, as i've not hear it, yet. have you heard her tracks "frank sinatra" and "rippin' kittin"? if not, check those out.

i definitely second le tigre, especially the dfa mixes-- ESPECIALLY "they only want you when you're 17." (think of the possibilities by the title alone!)

also, try "satisfaction" by benny bennassi.

the group adult. (the period is part of the band name) has some good tracks, but they might be a little too angsty and not sexy enough for dancing. some of their tracks could definitely work depending on the atmosphere of the club.

i have more but i can't think of any off the top of my head.

Electroclash is just house with a bit of a twist. It's been around for years. It's nothing new or special. electronic dance music has thousands of genras, with more being created every day. The genras get fused and blend into new things. I have electroclash breaks, tech-trance, psychadelic house, etc....This is whats cool about modern dance music. When some says that they dont like EDM, I tell them they just havent hear the right stuff.

    Sapphire:

you say you are a fan? have you ever looked into the old 80 italodisco that e-clash rips off??? Shit like Night Moves' "Trans Dance," Dharma's "Plastic Doll," Sun La Shan's "Catch"????

The original italo scene is far more sleazy and interesting than the posers out now. Also e-clash isd a direct rip off of Hague electro (specifically I-F's "Space Invaders are Smoking Grass"

Check out the real.... you'll be surprised.

I have the CD Sacrebleu by Demtri from Paris. I there's talking on the tracks and it's funny to listen to. In particular Une very stylish fille is one of my favorites.

Sacrebleu isn't electroclash... great lp though. File it under the downtempo lounge movement of the late 90s.
