the Smiths- How Soon is Now?
Psychedelic Furs-Love My Way or Pretty in Pink
The Clash-Train in Vain, Should I Stay or Should I Go and Rock The Casbah

Ahhh... you can get away with Skinny Puppy? My hat is off to you!

And Vicious Pink! I had almost forgotten them. What about their song "Fetish"?

    Golden Earring "Twilight Zone"
Blondie "Heart of Glass" (barely squeeking in at 1980)
    Cult "She Sells Sanctuary"
Duran Duran "Planet Earth" "the Chauffer"
    Sexbeat "Sexbeat"
Alien Sex Fiend "I Walk the Line"
Soft Cell "Sex Dwarf" (!!! apparently no one listens to the words, heh)

All the above get played at my club with great success as do many on your list

Um... I know I'll think of more, hehe

Veronika: I can only get away with Warlock. Sometimes Assimilate, if a certain crowd is there. Like people i know! As for Sex Dwarf, I've done it....but I used the Leatherstrip version. you can't hear the lyrics that well. I'm surprised that you can get away with Alien Sex Fiend. Another Alien group: Alien Skull Paint!
    Tomorrow: Sneaky Bat Machine

    Hey Naomi-
If youse cheesy, den I is cheesy too, because I LOVE Take on Me. Like the vid, too.

I heard "Talk to Ya Later" by the Tubes the other day, and thought thats a great song to see a dancer dance to.

God, a dancer who danced to "She Sells Sanctuary" would be the recipient of a lot of cash, because I would be compelled to fork over extra just on general principle

Here's some quirky 80's music (outside of cheesy hair metal, which is PERFECT for strippers) that I think would be great to watch a gal dance to:

    - Samantha Fox - "Touch Me"
    - Boys Don't Cry - "I Wanna Be A Cowboy"
    - Don Henley - "Dirty Laundry"
    - Gap Band - "You Dropped A Bomb On Me"
    - Red Ryder - "Lunatic Fringe"
    - Cyndi Lauper - "She Bop"
    - Eurythmics - "Sweet Dreams Are Made of These"
    - Some early Madonna like "Into The Groove"
    - Almost anything off ZZ Top's "Eliminator" or "Afterburner" albums.
    - A whole plethora of Stevie Nicks or Pat Benetar songs.

And a couple tunes that I think would be very appropriate with the stuff you ladies deal with on a nightly basis:

    - Donna Summer - "She Works Hard For The Money"
    - Georgia Satellites - "Keep Your Hands To Yourself"

I really should be working, but here's a few quick ones...

2 more Cure tracks--preferably from the "Mixed Up" CD

    "Fascination Street"
    "Lullaby"

    Information Society--"Pure Energy"

    B-52's "Mesopotamia"
    "Planet Claire"

    Berlin--"Sex"
"Take My Breathe Away"--slower but hot

Thomas Dolby--"She Blinded Me With Science"

    New Order--"Blue Monday"
    "Bizarre Love Triangle"

Kajagoogoo--"Too Shy" (Oh, but she's really not too shy at all, is she...)

    Frankie Goes to Hollywood--"Relax"

    Jellybean--"Sidewalk Talk"

    Human League--"Human"

    Big Audio Dynamite--"Medecine Show"

If Front 242 was from the 80's (later 80's, maybe?--they really are a departure, and belong in a seperate thread about proto-techno, hmmm), anything from the CD that has:

    "Welcome to Paradise"
    "Headhunter"

I forget the name, I will find it and come back later---right now, back to work!

Jeez. this thread is freaking me out. I heard both these songs not more than two days ago, and thought they have SC Dancing potential.

I think its a shame that a lot of these songs are discounted in SCs merely because they arent songs that just came out within the last 6 months.

Front 242 *is* 80s um, late - yes (I just checked my "Quite Unusual" remix disk)

How about Acid Horse "No name, No slogan"?
    Romeovoid "Never say Never"
    Clan of Xymox "Stranger"
Siouxsie and the Banshees "Cities in Dust"
Gary Numan "Are Friends Electric" (try the new version that is remixed on the compilation "Graver's Paradise"

and, how about Yaz "Don't Go"

I wanted to sneak in Sisters of Mercy "Temple of Love" but the useable version with Ofra Haza is 1993 (original is 1983, though).

I boosted the bass in a couple of the above songs, well, re-EQed them in general to make them more "club friendly". The original mastering is kind of wacky when played over a modern sound system.

Juliette, I think you have all my records lol! Sneaky Bat Machine! I still have the old Permission Magazine they were in.

Veronika: I think so, because I have all of the albums you mentioned, if they aren't mp3's. Clan of Xymox is great! I have the Razormaid version of Stranger. Jasmine and Rose is also a personal favorite. Kevorkian Death Cycle has a decent remix of Never Say Never...I think....don't quote me on it! I've never tried Sisters of Mercy at work...hmmm. Wonder why?

While I am here, more stuff to add!

    Love and Rockets- So Alive
    Prince- Little Red Corvette
Poesie Noir- Pity For the self
Simple Minds- Don't You Forget About Me
    Sheep On Drugs- Motorbike
    Nine Inch Nails-Ringfinger
    Tin Tin-Kiss me
    Just a few!

Tin Tin!! LOL! *eek* You are bringing back sooo many memories!

    Anyway:
Echo & the Bunnymen "Sugar Kisses"
Jane's Addiction "Ocean Size" "Mountain Song"

Dunno, but next to the Cult (yup, 'tis true ), JA gets me more tips *just because* than anything I can think of. I think it is all of the people getting up onto or into their 30s who remember that last summer or two before graduation.

The Cult rocks. I am partial to these three:

"Lil Devil'--this one is a little too short, though, so I use it for the damned T-shirt specials or 2-for1's. It lends itself very well to talking up the dancer onstage, especially if she happens to be an Angel who is also, well, you know...

"Wildflower"--I love this one, and always send it out to The Wildflower herself, as I did a week ago, when she happened to be in the club. And a beautiful, blossoming wildflower she is...

    "Love Removal Machine"

Of course "Sanctuary" is an excellent track--they have so many more as well, but on to:

    "I Touch Roses"--Book of Love's proto-techno hit, has always been a favorite.

"Walk Away from Love"--another great Yaz track.

"The Gap"--this Thompson Twins track is for you if you ever took belly-dancing, but it has to be cut--it is like eight minutes long!

"Burning Down the House"--The Talking Heads are one of my favorite 80's bands, but most of their stuff is a bit too wierd for the mainstream SC clientele, what a pity.

"The Magnificant Seven" & "Silicon & Sapphire" (this one is different, be warned)--The Clash--two members of whom teamed up with a couple of reggae guys to make up Big Audio Dynamite, who were fantastic until they started to sing about how much fun they USED to have, the hell with that!

The name of that Front 242 CD is Front by Front, and every song on it is fantastic if you like 'em, which I do. my favorite 242 song is also the "Quite Unusual" remix, unless maybe it would be the "Rhythm of Time" (anti-g mix), but that one starts kinda slow.

PJ. I'm glad you appreciate "She Blinded Me...", that is a SC tune if I ever heard one! "Relax' was featured in a movie, I forget the name, playing in a wild nightclub while the star had some torrid public sex in one of the hallways with a porno starlet (in the movie, not real life). Great song, great scene!

Two things about 99 Red Balloons. First, the English and German lyrics mean VASTLY different things.

Here are the opening lines of both -

German Version - "Hast Du etwas Zeit für mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich"
(Translation - Have you some time for me, then I will sing a song for you.

English Version - "You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got".

Entirely different. Personally, I like the German version better.

Second, it has been covered a LOT since the 80s. My personal faves are the covers by proto-garage punk band 7 Seconds, and metal band CKY.

This website http://www.216colors.com/luft/ chronicals the efforts to list 99 different covers of 99 Red Balloons.

Yes, Michele......same Genitorturers. They have been around for quite a while. I was into them back in my Karen Black days, which was 8th-9th grade.

They were in the same leaugue-The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black and Gen-what a perfect combination!Karen cracked eggs with her puss. But that is off topic

Yaz-personal favorite song by them is "situation".

Also, Grandmaster Flash's White Lines. If you ever have a heavy gang crowd, whip this one out. For real.

    Gene Loves Jezebel. Desire. Duh.

And Fire Woman by the Cult.

Modern English, I melt with You

Or Groove is in the Heart by de la soul.

More to come once I get my thinking cap on securely.

    Some more 80's nostalgia music.

    Run-DMC's - Shes Tricky.

Beastie Boys- She's Crafty [It's off License to Ill, but I'm having a brain cramp as to it's proper name.]

    Ton Loc- Funky Cold Medina

LL Cool J- Going Back to Cali

2 Live Crews- S&M (Really good for two girl leather shows)

    Anything New Order

Duran Duran- Hungry Like the Wolf or Rio.

Violent Femmes- Blister in the Sun (killer intro)

    J Giels Band- Centerfold

I know this is a lot of Rap, but it brings back alot good memorys being a 30 something.

As for the rest of the list you guys got it covered really good.

But my all time Favorite true 80's Strip Club Song has to be:

    Relax-by Frankie goes to Hollywood.

I have flashbacks of watching "Body Double" on Cable and seeing Melanie Griffith naked while this song was playing.
