U-2 came out in the '80s. Love 'em still. And I thoroughly enjoyed Journey, too. "Separate Ways" was great. But the popular stuff for both bands is more straight-line rock 'n' roll than real Big Hair music.
I really liked "One Thing Leads to Another" by the Fixx, I think was their name. And "Everybody Wants To Rule the World" by ... by ... I can't remember. Human League?? Dunno.
Michael Jackson has turned into such a freak show that we tend not to remember his good stuff, but even things like "Human Nature" and "Billie Jean" were pretty catchy. I don't think there's ever been a better song 'n' dance man. Too bad he melted down.
Jason-
Everybody Wants to Rule the World is by Tears For Fears.
Head Over heels was also a marginally big hit by them.
U2 was always excellent.....War is a great album.
Their first album, boy, came out in 1980.

The Texas Pin-up Stripteuse!
Tainted Love-Soft Cell
You Spin Me Round-Dead or Alive

I must be going nuts or getting OldTimers Disease... I was thinking Tears for Fears had that "Don't You Forget About Me" from the John Hughes film "Breakfast Club" ... but that was Simple Minds, or something like that... uhhhh....... right?
I wish I'd listened to more of U-2 ... I just love "In God's Country" and that whole Slash-guitar machinegun-strum thing they had going.
I have Soft Cel's "Tainted Love" on my illegal (I think) road-trip CD. I don't watch TV often, but the last time I did, I saw some kind of duster commercial with a derivation of Devo's "Whip It" as the theme - I just about passed out. 'Bout the same reaction I had when Nike featured a Beatles song and Cadillac (Cadillac??) was playing Led Zep's "Rock and Roll."

I love that song!Violent Femmes- Blister in the Sun (killer intro)
Other 80's songs about masturbation:
Vapors~ Turning Japanese
Cindi Lauper~ She Bop
Billy Idol~ Dancing with Myself
Devo~ Peek A Boo
New Order~ The Perfect Kiss
Billy Joel~ Captain Jack
Prince~ Tamborine

Just heard these songs.
Ministry- Halloween.
The Lemon Heads- Mrs. Robinson (cover of Simon and Garfunkle song)
Echo and the Bunnymen- People are Strange(cover of the Doors on the Lost Boys movie sound track)
For the punk crowd.
Suicidal Tendencies- Institutionalized, and I Saw Your Mommy.
Dead Kennedys- Holiday in Cambodia

I just heard this song today. It would would freak out the customers, but I'm sure the girls would love it.
I forgot the name of the band. But the song is called- Detachable Penis.

"I woke up this morning, and my penis was gone...."
No way. A girl wouldn't use Detachable penis unless she was being paid very well for it, or the club was dead so it didn't matter.
True it would trip the customers out....but I won't go there.

Your right Juliette,
I would never expect a girl to play this at all. I don't think there is any way in hell to dance to it but, the humor involved with the thought is why I brought it up in the first place as well as being a classic 80's song. It would be very surreal...
I would count on it popping up in a Scene of some independent directors Film De Noire[ forgive me, my french is terrible] tribute at a film festival somewhere in the near future. It just has that kind of quality don't you think?

I thought it was by the butthole surfers...

It is by King Missile and is actually an early 90s song, as is the Lemonhead's cover of "Mrs. Robinson."
This thread makes me feel old . . .![]()

More 80's
David Bowie- Fashion, Fame, China Girl, Modern Love, and Under Pressure.
It's amazing how much music he's put out.

Jan Hammer's- Miami Vice Theme
Who could forget growing up in the 80's without them.
The Church "Under the Milky Way" and "Reptile"
Pixies "Where is my Mind" (works with White Stripes "Seven Nation Army")
All three I'd completely forgotten about until the DJ played them and they worked!
Or how about Jesus and Mary Chain "April Skies"?
Currently dancing at the Men's Club of Reno, NV

i play detachable penis everytime i dj, the girls love it and the guys all laugh.. and not to go too ot but my god I am having fantasies of running my fingers thru the record collections of the girls on this thread...lmao
Howard Jones-No One Is To blame. You will be suprised at how many people know this song and sing along. For half the guys in the club, they will remember it being "their" songs, as in their ex back in high school or junior high.
Don't Forget his other song called "Things Can Only Get Better". (Whoa whoa whooooaaa whoa whoa whoooooaaa)
The Texas Pin-up Stripteuse!
Hehehe....did anyone mention "C'mon Eileen"?
Bauhaus-anything, but I guess their hot was "Bela Lugosi"-would work well with a goth set. I like their "Telegram Sam" cover too.
Buzzcocks-"Orgasm Addict". I am DYING to dance to that one!
"The Power of the Babe" from Labrynth, Bowie. That song is soooo cheesy, I love it!
Dead Milkman "Bitchin Camaro" I love it when my Jersey Boy sings it to me....
Our love song: Motorhead's "Ace of Spades." Not sure when that album came out but I recently got it in CD format-Rules!!
ANYTHING New Order, I especially like the song "Johnny" (not sure if that's the official name, talks about the gun)
Anything off of Depeche Mode's "Music for the Masses"-my ex stole my copy but for the club, I am thinking of that song "I want you now" with all the sex sounds in the background....
Just a few of Kat's faves......
"Have you ever been to American wedding? Where is the vodka, where's marinated herring?" - GB
"And do the cats give a shit? No, they do not. Why? Because they're cats."-from The Onion
