Default Take your cell phone outside the club

Last weekend I was at this club and repeatedly heard an announcement from the DJ about cell phone usage. They weren't banning the use of cell phones, just insisting you take it outside if you were going to use it.

I came up with a couple of reasons for this:

    1) Camera phones are becoming more and more popular amongst folks today. Any club voyeur could snap off a few digital shots/video covertly of a dancer on stage and post them on his porn site without paying the dancer a licensing fee.

    2) People are obnoxious on cell phones. They loose all social interaction skills and start talking loudly and wandering around aimlessly.

That about covers it in my mind. It can really be distracting (and annoying) to the dancers and the customers trying to perform or enjoy themselves. Especially because the music is so loud in clubs. People just sit there and shout trying to hear and be heard by the person on the other end of the phone. Just seems like basic manners to walk the phone outside for a minute.

It's the rapidly emerging camera phone menance. There was a discussion link about this a couple of weeks ago. I sometimes can hear my cell phone ring in the club. There is no way I could listen or talk on it within the club. The music is simply too loud.

Some clubs are talking about checking the cell phone at the door as in Dodge City saloons circa 1880 for hand guns. Banning the use within a club is probably the way to go.

The clubs i always been in never did mind the use of cell phones, but now that we have the 'camera cell phone' they do not like them. I have never heard an annnouncement to turn them off while inside.

That is a great idea for club owners. Alot of them, mine anyway will vibrate, so i can see if this is a important call.

As far as banning the use, i don't think they can. People have emergencies, and need these phones, so muting one and seeing it light up lets you know you have a call as well, as does just vibrate. Then quickly answer it outside. If it's a missed call, return the call outside.

At least i know at the hospital i work at they are not allowed to ban the use. And these phones are running around some serious equipment at times. Should not be around equipment, and people are told to turn them off, but still it's a touchy subject.

So i heard with phone use.

People on cell phones are annoying morons. They turn from otherwise perfectly normal folks, into stupid wandering fools with no manners. I had a guy in VIP Thursday night, and as I was trying to dance for him the guy a couple couches away called his buddy while his dancer went to the bathroom. He kept going on and on about 'la Americana con tetas grandes', thinking I didn't know what he was saying. He was making some very rude comments to his buddy on the phone, until I greeted him in spanish and told him he should be careful what he says. He got very embarrassed then and got off the phone. So not only do people with phones need to go out to the lobby or some other non-annoying location, but don't try to use language to talk about people in their presence. You never know who speaks your language!

Oh, and the damn camera phones! GGRRrrrrrrr! I will smack the guy I catch taking pictures of me and take his phone to the manager to make him delete them. Those things are easy to spot, so should be checked at the door. Our bouncers already have to check customers at the door, so it wouldn't be too hard to check for camera phones.

More and more clubs are requiring you to use your phone outside. And the reason why is the camera phone.

I think it is major for clubs to ban camera phones. As they do camcorders and camera phones in sensitive areas in business.
As for the "turn off" issue vs vibrate. I think the signal is different. When the phone receives a call it stays active more communicating with the cell tower and when it is just on it only periodically checks with home to identify itself. I think that is why pagers are allowed to be caried by staff.

A hospital can do pretty much what it wants in terms of banning any object on its property considered risky to patient activity. I think the majority just go all the way to requiring it to be turned off to simplify their lives. This may change, remember laptops used to Never be allowed on in airplanes but now are not allowed during takeoff and landing.

Why do you need a cell phone in the club anyway? What could be more important?

Hey "B" at least that was a true statement

I always leave my cell phone in my car. I consider It rude to take or make a call in a club or restaurant

I'm glad you've learned the language, imagine that guy saying instead " La americana no tiene las tetas tan grandes como pensaba" ("The American's tits aren't as big as I thought")
    [rotflmao]Now THAT would've been a rude remark!

As of late I've been leaving my cell phone in the car, either when visiting SC's or regular bars, not because of what's being discussed here, but because my phone is 4 years old, bulky, haven't had the need to change it and I know it's outdated :-/

Monty staff at the hospital carries inside pagers for their dept. to reach them. These pagers get turned into security after shft change. As for cell phone use, i was told (had to ask last night) that the frequency does not interfere with our equipment. However, they do have to turn them off inside the patient rooms, as they do interfere with the other patient in the next bed.

Still, we have signs warning againsy cell phone use inside the hospital, and doctors are the worst!
