Default Can't Touch Coz I Can't Reach in LA County

OK......it's been a while since I've been to a club in the Los Angeles area. My preferences always are with the Vegas clubs. But....I believe I heard that a little while ago Los Angeles County passed an ordinance requiring that you Lap Dancers stay 5 yards away from us when doing your thing. Ok...ok....maybe it was only 6 feet.

Has anyone here had any personal experience with that....is it being enforced?

And for all of you good looking, beautiful women in the Valley.....are you now migrating to LV for the weekends? Just gotta find out where the action is. [frustrated] [frustrated] [frustrated]

I believe the ordinance in question applied to only the city of Los Angeles, not the whole county, therefore nothing has changed in clubs in the L.A. suburbs.

Here are the details of the ban (L.A. City Ordinance 175471):

    http://zbone.com/zone/p-note03.htm

    - no lap dancing
    - no VIP rooms
    - 6 ft buffer zone between patrons and dancers
    - 30 in. high railing on stages
    - no direct tipping
    - state licensed security guard on duty at all times.

Word is that activists are trying to overturn it by gathering enough petition signatures to force a referendum, but fat chance of that happening. Even if they succeed they'll most likely lose. I'll bet that clubs in neighboring jurisdictions are probably catching a windfall as a result.

Regarding the current situation in Los Angeles, Dr. Catfish is correct that the ordinance only affects clubs in the city of Los Angeles, not L.A. county. This is a little tricky for those not familiar with the LA area because there are so many incorporated cities such as West Hollywood, Inglewood, Lennox, etc. that are adjacent and surrounded by the city of Los Angeles. For example, this means that the Century Lounge near LAX would be affected, but the nearby clubs Bare Elegance and The Jet Strip wouldn't. City of Industry clubs are also unaffected as they are in LA County.

However, as you may be aware, there was a petition drive initiated to defeat the ordinance. This required the collection of approximately 57,000 valid signatures from registered Los Angeles voters. To be safe, over 100,000 signatures were gathered. Obviously, signatures were gathered at most all L.A. clubs, as well as college campuses, grocery stores, and shopping malls. These signatures were submitted to the city government within 30 days after the mayor signed the ordinance. This has effectively postponed implementation of the ordinance, pending the next move by the city council who can either repeal the ordinance (fat chance) or call for the issue to be decided by election, most likely that of March 2005.

So, the petition drive has brought us a temporary reprieve, with the result that IT IS BUSINESS AS USUAL at L.A. clubs. If anybody would like any further details about the current situation, I encourage you to look at the Bulletin Board at www.zbone.com I for one am very proud of the efforts of all involved in the petition drive. Even though litigation is an option, I think most of us realize that the courts are not always receptive to our business and are likely to defer to the findings of the municipal govt., regardless of whether or not they have a factual basis. Others may disagree, but I honestly believe most people do not support this proposed ordinance, and that the city council was purporting to support the interests of a small minority of voters merely for the symbolic value of its action rather than choosing to focus its time and energy on substantive issues facing our city
