    Default need advice from dancers

I travel over 1300 miles from my home in Texas to Las Vegas about 5 or 6 times a year, to play and see my favorite dancer. Last week, I went to the club she had been working at for about 5 years and she wasn't there. A dancer friend of hers recognized me and informed me she had been fired for being overweight. She is not fat, by any means. She also told me where she was working, so I was able to keep in touch. But my question is this. Do club managers do this kind of thing often and is there anything, as a customer I can do to let them know my displeasure? I hate merely avoiding that particular club as I like many of the other dancers there and don't want to punish them for what I consider bad management. Should I write a letter or what. On the positive side, I did find my friend and she gave me her cell number, so this will never happen again. But what can do to let management at her old club know they made a mistake. Sorry if this is long, but I'm new here. BTW, I am female and go to clubs by myself and spend $300-$400 nightly on drinks and dances. Thanks for listening, Ladies

Yes that kind of thing does happen. It happened a lot at my old club. They management has to have some kind of standards. They can't just let anyone work. And while you might not think she was overweight by normal standards, dancers have to be skinner than most girls. Dancers have to look their best. I don't think writing a letter or talking to management would change anything. Just my two cents.

Yes, it happens a lot. I'm a little thick right now and I could never travel and work at some of the clubs I've worked at before. Management probably doesn't care. They really don't care if you aren't happy, especially if you keep coming to the club. The only real statement you can make is with your money and your patronage.

Thanks for the replies. I just always thought that since you ladies were independent contractors, your weight was your business. I also kind of expected the managers would not care about customers, but I just felt I needed to support my dancer friend in some way.

I live in California, the "at will" state. They can fire you for any reason. They don't even have to give one. Fighting discrimination is a tough challenge.
Not unless there is a high volume of complaints do I think your protest will amount to anything.

If it would make you feel better by all means call and say how you have come in for years to see her and were wondering why she was not there anymore,if she worked there 5 years like you stated they should have been more loyal to her, unless of course she gained like 20 pounds and that put her overwieght, they should have given her a warning.
