    Default Dancer Tattoos

For some reason, a lot of men I know really dislike tattoos on a dancer (unless it’s a miniscule heart tattoo on her ankle). Personally, unless they look gross, I truly love tattoos, and it actually enhances sometimes my opinion of a dancer physically. I have 4 tattoos myself, so I can appreciate what is involved in both getting them and living with them every day.

To satisfy my curiosity, do you have tattoos, and where are they?

Have they ever been a hindrance or a help in your dancing?

Do you encounter guys who say "You have such a nice body, why would you ruin them with tattoos"? etc etc. I have a dancer-friend in one of my favorite haunts that has a number of really cool, artistic tattoos (she is beautiful as well). She tells me she gets this response all the time.

Part of the reason why I admire dancers is because they buck the social norms. I also admire people who get tattoos for this reason as well.

And.. any suggestions on my 5th tattoo? (just kiddin'.. I know what I am getting).

Thank you all for indulging me.

A lot of guys think they look ghetto or trashy. Some guys like that look in a stripper, but a lot of guys like the upscale, model type. I can see how they would be turned off by tattoos.

I personally have one (relatively small of a wolf howling at the moon on my back)

    I have two.

Both are in a place that would never be seen in a formal dress situation.

A tiny butterfly just above my bellybutton piercing, and the other just above the crack of my tooshie, it sort of a v shaped swirly lined thing, done in a mendi colored ink (reddish brown) so it comes across very soft and is often mistaken for tempoorary as in a mendi tatto. I also had the outline of the butterfly done in that same soft brown color - I find black ink too strong on my celtic skin and too drastic in comparison for me.

I have never had a negative reply on them, wait oh ya one guy in drunken blurry rudeness looked over and said that butterfly is gonna morph into a big fat moth when you git pregnant girl....
So I blank faced said to him --thank you sir, that was very kind of you to mention, but with all those psychic revelations you have on what things 'will be' you would think you would have known that I, sir, unfortunately can not bear children but thank you for reminding me. I smiled sweetly and walked away.

By the way I can have children I just thought I would return his comment with a resounding shut out, such as that one did.

I like body art, and expression. Each to their own.

Now really-- what if we said well now that we are mentioning the things we dont appreciate on the other persons body, hey buddy ever consider rhinoplasty? Or, have you had your sprinkle today? Or damn Fred isnt that the 3rd day in a row youve been wearing that shirt? Hey buddy are you ever short- you a jockey or something? Thanks for not shaving, wanna borrow my comb? Hey you ever try the atkins diet, Tiny?

I mean for real, ruin our body with a tattoo? Like anyone namely a patron who pays for your time has any right to make that call.

Secondly that we should have to justify out choices to them about it.

My wife has two, from when she was too young to be getting one. Both are home made, one she will get fixed and the other we are in the proccess of having removed with laser surgery. It is a long and painful proccess that will take more then a year.

That said, A dancer must consider the aesthetic effect of any changes she make's to her appearance. Hair color, perm or straighten, piercing's, make up, tattoo's .... you name it. That is if she is serious about dancing as a career. Tattoo's are still considered a taboo by alot of people and they have a stereotypical image of what those tattoo's represent. I for one am heavily tattooed and proud of it. I don't show it off to everyone because I refuse to be prejudged by those who don't understand and would contrive a lessor opinion of me mearly for my choice of artistic creativity. In essence some people will like them and use it as a way to connect with you and there are those that will not appreciate it for what it is and scorn you for it and never really try to get to know you as a person. There are also " feminine" tattoo's and those that look way to butch to be on a woman or more specifically the placement of the tattoo and it's relative size. One way or another it is controversial and will effect your job, maybe in a good way, maybe in a bad way.

I have one on my arm. It's a pretty tattoo but a lot of men see it as a turn off and I have to wear thick makeup or airbrushed paint over it in photos.

My personality has changed a lot since I got it several years ago and it doesn't appeal to me anymore. I'm currently going through laser treatments and it will be completely gone in a few months. I can't wait!

Well, never effected my career AT ALL! LOL!

But I get your meaning CrazyBob, it can set people into thinking those old archaic misconceptions of being rough and tumble biker chick or some such thing. But TODAY is a different day...and tattoos not carrying the same foreboding it once did.

I have a band tatooed on my left arm. I have never had a complaint and I always wear it proudly. Formal dress or casual it is me.
Body art is an expression of one self. Same with piercings.

Folks - thanks for all the answers. I have always thought tatts were an ultimate form of personal expression, since they are permanent save for expensive laser treatment. Not a lot of people know I have tattoos (my mother just found out how many I had last year). Their reactions to them when they find out is split very clearly. Anyone my age or younger usually say "Wow.. That’s cool". People older than me always say "Do you know that’s going to be on your body forever"? LOL

Some of my regulars react that way. I tell them I have loved them when I got them, and still feel that way. Each one has a lot of meaning for me, so they aren’t just mere decoration, which is what some people think they are.

I don't know if it's just that Canadian west coast mentality, but I have never had a negative comment on my tattoos. I really like my art, and the piece on my lower back always gets compliments (like every single show, lol). The one thing that does bug me though, is the questions I get about the one on my belly. It is a tribal-style pattern in solid black that goes around my belly, kind of frames the belly button, and someone is always asking what it is. What do they mean, what is it? It's ink, it's art, it's mine...I just don't get the question. It's not supposed to "be" anything...geesh!

    Ara thats hilarious!

My swirly v shaped thingie on my lower back gets the same dumbass remarks...what language is that? Its not - its swirly lines, what does it mean? It means its a tattoo...on and on.

My ex has a ivy vine with leaves across the front of her lower belly which camoflouges a scar and guys are always saying what does it say - they're leaves and a vine!!! GET GLASSES!

ANd simply because mine is a vee shape (very slightly that is) - I get comments like Is it a harley davidson?WHAT?Its scroll work very delicate with no solid lines no fuggin eagle no block letters with unpaid advertising .....----good grief already.

So I hear ya on that call ARA, I so hear ya! LOL!

i have a calla lily on my upper right arm, and a tigerlily on my forearm at the largest part of my muscle (tiny muscles) both are done in heavy black outline (1/8 to 1/4 in. thick) with no color, i plan to get 3 or four more flowers done the same way on this arm and get th rest of my arm filled in with red smoke twisting up it. almost every customer i approach (or the ones that approach me) feel it necesary to comment. "what do they mean?"- they mean i give one hell of a lapdance, buddy. "you'll regret it when your 60" no when i'm 60 i will look at the liver spots on my other arm and wish i had gotten more tattoos to disguise the age spots. "it's okay we all make mistakes" and my mistake was sitting with the bleeding heart of the month, did i ever indicate i regret my tattoos? "now you can never get a real job" honey, let's talk about me makin more in one night than you do in a week at your real job

I got a small tattoo of a phoenix bird done on the nape of my neck in December. I love my tattoo-- I drew the design myself and it has a lot of personal meaning for me. I get a lot of compliments on it. However, I do run into a lot of customers who will chide me for having one. Their reasons are usually that they feel it's not classy or ladylike. One of my customers yesterday in all seriousness asked me if I had a motorcycle boyfriend!
There is certainly a slight taboo attached to tattoo art, but I love mine, and appreciate artful tattoos on others as well.

I have one tattoo and it is a non-feminine one: a bat on my right shoulder. I have it as a totem animal; it is believed in some places to help one see in the dark in dreams or in visons quests. It is also a good luck symbol. I have never been told that I shouldn't have the tattoo but I get a lot of questions on the subject matter. Maybe the fact that it is an odd choice for a tattoo makes them interested instead of "anti-tattoo". Who knows.

It gets a little tedious explaining the meaning and the explanation has been truncated to "it means good luck" unless someone seems really interested.

Honestly, though, as much as I love my tattoo, I would cover it up with makeup if my club weren't so blacklit. All makeup looks weird on it in that lighting.

I have several tattoos and body piercings. I get asked alot of questions about both( in and out of the club)which I have no problem answering, but I don't believe it has negatively affected my income. Very few guys have negative things to say about either. The ones that do usually end up spending their money on me anyway because once they start talking to me or watch me dance, they forget about them. Alot of guys like to get private dances because the peircings turn them on!

I have two tattoos, one in the bear shown as my "image" which is located on the side of my hip. I designed it myself and actually get a lot of compliments on it. I have another one on my ankle which is a heart with horns/tail and a halo.

Just like anything (hair color etc) I think it's just a matter of personal preference. Some people like them, some don't, and then there is always moderation. However, I've never had someone ask "why on earth would you..."

I've never had any negative comments on my tattoos. I think most of that has to do with the fact that my biggest are my footsleeves, jeweled scarab beetles with wings. They're unusual and in an unusual place, so they get a lot of attention. I've actually had guys tip me onstage just to get a better look at my feet!
My other two are small; a pink star on my hip and a violet blossom on my lower back (like Leigh's, right above the tushie). My gramma's name is Violet so the blossom was really more of a devotional piece, but I've gotten a few compliments on it in the week since I've had it.

i have a small flower on my hand, a frog on my hip about palm size (maybe a little bigger), another frog on my ankle(tribal), and a lotus flower on my tailbone with Precious underneath it. Now I get mixed reactions on them,oh by the way I have 6 body peircings and 6 in my ears, but I dont think it affects my money too much. Sometimes it helps.
I figure that if they don't like it, Oh freakin well. This is who I am and what I enjoy. It is my way of self expresion.

I have two fairly small ones, one on my forearm near the crook of my elbow and another on my side underneath the ribs. They are pretty unusual looking and in unusual places and I get lots of comments and questions about them (annoying). Most guys tell me they don't normally like tattoos but that mine are, at the least, interesting to look at and done well i.e. acceptable to them. In 4 1/2 years of dancing I've only had 1 guy tell me he didn't like tattoos, period, and that I ruined a perfectly good body with them. Mixed reactions on the piercings, almost all positive, since 2 of my 3 piercings are also quite unusual.

Fifth tattoo huh.. what are the other four?

    The four I have are:

Celtic Cross on my left leg. I'm not Irish or particularly religious, but I have always been fascinated by Celtic crosses. Besides their obvious beauty, I like the fact that they meld both pagan and Christian concepts. That’s an interesting dichotomy, and it’s great for mythical, mystical historical fodder. Plus a few of my friends who are wiccans think it is cool LOL (I'm not a wiccan myself, though). I got this tattoo on September 10, 2001 :-/

Punisher Skull symbol on my right upper arm. The Punisher is my favorite comic book character - the perfect anti-hero, in my book. This was my first tattoo, which I got over 10 years ago,

Polish Eagle right under the Punisher tat. I ma half Polish, and proud of my heritage. It means a lot to me. This was my most recent one.

Crossed Cavalry Sabers on my upper right arm. This is actually a nod to my love of history, especially the Civil War period.

All have meaning for me, as I know a lot of yours do. My can see two of my tatts (although they are slightly blurry) on my pic in the Gallery.

I have 5 tats and wanna get 4 of them removed. I think they may have hindered me a little. One of them is my ex's initials. I have an angel on my cat, 2 on my arm and "So Alive" on the back of my neck in Japanese. The last one I wanna keep, as it was my 1st.

I don't have any tattoos and get a lot of positive reactions from the men I sit with at the club. They praise me for keeping my body free of ink and designs. I've been wanting a piercing or tattoo (clit piercing or very very very small female symbol right above my mound), but now that I've started working nude, there's no place to hide anything! I don't want to lose all the compliments I get because I make money from men who prefer to not see a tattooed dancer.
