Has anyone ever worked as a dealer or know any?
I have a friend who is a supervisor in a Las Vegas casino. He makes $43k/year and says most of the dealers only make $20k..

Depends on where and which casino, and whether they're working the regular floor or vip or what. I know several people who work in the casinos here in PR, and they make pretty good money. Casino servers seem to make anywhere from $40 to $150 most nights, and up to $350 on good nights, plus their hourly pay of about $4-6/hour. Dealers usually make a LITTLE more than the servers.

thanx for the input![]()
What's PR?
$40/night equals less than $11k/year and $150/night equals out to $40k/year (if working 5 days per week). If getting paid an additional $6/hour that adds on an extra $12k/year.

I have a distant cousin who deals blackjack at a casino in Mississippi. Not sure how much income dealers make, but unlike most dancers they do get a hourly wage (albeit often a minimum one) and they pool their tips. I'm sure the dealers at high end places in Vegas though make decent money.
The key to securing employment is to learn as many of the table games as possible, and to work both fast and proficiently. From what I've heard, dealers generally start out earning their stripes in a low dollar joint. The good ones will eventually move up to the ritzier places where the tips are better.
The casinos also want their employees to be VERY aware of the security measures (spotting cheaters, etc.). Anyone whose ever been to a blackjack table has probably seen that little routine dealers do when they leave the table where they wipe their hands and wiggle their fingers. That way that camera up on the ceiling can see they're not palming any chips.
My cousin is left-handed and apparently when dealing blackjack, this puts her at a disadvantage as far as dealing speed. A lot of monotony, repetition and stress involved I'm sure.

A starter is also known as a shill. That would be Puerto Rico I believe.
I asked the question because a casino in my area is looking for "model types to be Baccarat starters" for their new Baccarat room and they will train on Baccarat. Ironically, I saw this ad after I started researching dealing schools (I specifically was interested in the Asian games; pai gow and pan 9)
What's a starter anyway? Is that like a dealer?
Okay, so you may be wondering what's a shill? Shills (starters) are casino employees (generally attractive and elegantly dressed females) whom the casino uses to draw players (namely rich men) to a certain game, (most commonly at Baccarat since its known as a game for high rollers) by simply playing at the table with house money.

Imma Bump this thread...LOL
I know a guy that works as a dealer in a casino, from what I can tell he does pretty well for himself, but he's also been doing it for years and years. I think you have to start small and work your way up, and the really good money doesn't come until you're one of the best in the casino and can be put on the high roller tables etc.
Edit: Wow, definitely didn't realize how old this thread was!

I live in vegas. I have lots of friends who are dealers. They make around 70,000 at lower to mid end casinos and around 100-110,000 at the wynn or bellagio. Plus, they only work an hour and then break for 15 minutes, an hour and then break for 15, etc. Another perk is that all of their meals are free at the employee dining room.
Depends on the casino. Casino's i have worked at the Dealers shared tips (determined on hours work, PTO, etc.) paid through payroll. The hourly pay $5. - $7. gross including tips, bonus, training, $35k - $80k.
Some casino's have more perks than others, ex. free to cheap meals during shift, early out (able to leave shift early), bonuses, breaks every hour to hour and a half.
Hope this helps.
Wish this was a viable option for me as a 2nd job, but my arms can't do repetitive motion anymore. ;_;
