    Default Brutal Briuses....

How do I deal with all of these bruises? After everytime I work, my knees are so swollen and bruised that I can barely walk. It's soooo painful. One of my hips also gets the most nasty bruise and I have yet to figure out exactly how that one gets there, although I know it's by doing something on the floor...will my knees eventually "toughen up"? How do I deal with these? I'm working 3 days in a row this week and I have no idea how I'm going to do it!!

Try and avoid the floor work till they have eased up a bit. If you are lacking vitamin K you will bruise easier (green leafy veges etc...). Also get some arnica cream to put on the bruises and arnica tablets to take during the day. I have been dancing for awhile and I still get the bumps and bruises too .....

Try floor moves where you stay off your knees, like laying on your back with pelvis raised and gyrating, and when costumers come to tip you can lay on your side raise one leg and run your hand down it, or you could grab him and pull him close to you using both legs while running your fingernails down the back of his neck, give a peck on the cheek and tell him thanks. Also when you think your going slow enough, go slower. I'm kinda new too, and had the same problems untill I learned to do these things.
    Good luck

A lot of the girls where I work got some heavy bruising when they first started - particularly those who do lots of floor or pole work. They all seemed to "harden" up over time, though, as they got used to it.

Try tanning if you have lighter skin - it helps hide the discolorations. Avoid taking aspirin, as it thins the blood and may make you bruise easier. Like krys says, try to keep up on your vitamin K. There are some herbal bruise medicines out there as well.

Thank you for the responses, I will try those things. I had no idea I would get so battered and abused! Lol.

Arnica Montana works well for prevention. I took the tablets, never tried the cream.

Also Kgirl once you heal from the bruises pretty much you will learn how to become lighter on the floor. I practiced at home, i have some parts of hardwood floors that i would spread on move around on with my knees etc. I learned some of these moves at home that felt better, so i took these moves to the stage with me. I learned to use my hands and shoes more than my knees while on the floor.

Trust me, in time you learn the moves that you are not so good at on the floor, and the ones that you are very good at, and this will bring your bruising down alot too!

    Good luck,
    Pamela

Everyone is different about bruises. Some can get one at the slightest pressure. Others are more bulky and resistant to them. Yes ,as you build strenght and bulk you will become more resistant and the intensity will decrease but until then try not to localize your weight on small region. Try wearing padded boots. When entering the floor do so in more a rolling fashion as opposed to a drop. The same applies to rising from the floor. Try to distibute your weight over a larger area and gently lower it to the floor.
