Default A note to Ganja lovers-non codemning

Due to a recent discovery, I have put down marijuana. I haven't smoked for about 4 weeks. I used to smoke quite heavily, like 3 times a day. It was hydro too-much of my life was spent stoned. Very very stoned.

I understand why it is so popular. I loved it and have nothing against it. Perhaps I will smoke again some day. It helped my muscle cramps and PMS to be sure!
When I quit, I was irritable for a few days. It wasn't severe. It took me longer to fall asleep.

BUT then my head left the clouds and came back to earth. I found myself being quicker with my reactions. My memory improved. I wake up better. I haven't gained any munchie weight. A BIG plus!

If you love the stuff, I would be a hypocrite to suggest you quit completely. But from a 10-year pot vet. i will say that I have found it refreshing to be sober and completely coherent. Maybe all of you smokers can try it to see how you like it...It takes about 2 days for you to stop feeling the effects completely.

You guys have a happy holiday!

Same here. I always LOVED pot. I was, in my day, the of all Potheads. I earned that title fair and square too. I could outsmoke everybody I knew (all potheads of course) and I could hit with flair the biggest baddest bong (lovingly named Bob) that no one else could hit because the chamber was just too damn big for the 'regular' potheads to handle.

After I quit 8+ years ago I was SHOCKED at how alert, coherent and intelligent I suddenly became. Even I have smoked a few times since, like a couple hits (just enough to get high, doesn't take much when you're not doing it regular) once or twice a year at most, and EVERY time, I wake up the next day feeling like absolute shit. Coughing, tired , and unmotivated. I haven't even done it at all in the last 2 years or so. I have no more desire because I like feeling normal and alert.

Can't hold anything against any potheads out there, but it is some good food for thought.

Roommate wanted: Must be employed. No drunks, pedophiles or drug addicts. No pets. Potheads are ok though because they can't get up off the couch fast enough to skip out on the rent.

That is an actual quote from an ad I read a couple years ago and saved because I just thought it was so damn funny in a too-close-to-home kinda way.

Well I see nothing wrong with it. Have you ever noticed that artists find their "motivation" when they are high? I've never smoked before but I look at weed as a much healthier option than smoking cigarettes. I do think that all things should be done in moderation though.

Heh, that 'motivation' is bs. As a former smoker and knowing first-hand how much more with-it you are when you get off the pot, I gotta wonder how much more 'motivated' they'd be if they were sober.

    Fellow former pot 's united!!!

After I moved back here from Amsterdam, it wasn't the same, especially in god fearing Texas..always keep a little around though for an occasional evening at home with a funny comedy...it doesn't do that much for me except make my boy laugh at my inability to properly spoon Vietnamese noodles onto a plate...hehehehe....maybe its one of those things that gets boring after you've passed through your early 20's...

Not to be argumentative, but I would debate whether pot is really healthier than cigarettes. Even after I'd quit smoking, and only took a couple hits to get high on the rare occasions mentioned in my previous post, I still woke up with horrible hacking coughs that were clearly from the weed. I have read that smoking weed, although it may not contain the chemicals that cigs do, is actually more harmful to your lungs than tobacco. And then there's that whole killing brain cells thing. Again, speaking from experience, and having known tons of pot smokers, weed does slow your reaction time, hinder memory, and make you generally lethargic / lazy / slow. I really couldn't care less if someone smokes weed or not, it's not something that I hold against anyone - but alot of people have alot of misconceptions about what it does and does not do to you. It's not as harmless as you might think. Yes, definitely moderation is key for anything.

oh definately not argumentative. Smoking is smoking I don't think smoking pot is any "healthier" than smoking cigarettes. *sigh* I had an epiphany the other day...I rationalized that my lovely glass bong certainly must contribute to the "aging" of skin around the lips. All that smoke blasting against the skin. Can't be good. But there is a solution! Cooking with cannibas! I bought the book awhile back. Haven't tried anything yet since I don't keep an extra half z (like alot of recipes call for) but anyhow I'm rambling.

I quit this past summer for close to 2 months. I'll indulge once in a while but I'm no longer on any kind of mission to burn.

It has become clear that it would be good for me to quit. One thing I've noticed is that when I smoke a lot, I look really bad. My eyes get really red and I get dark circles under them, and my skin isn't as smooth and elastic as it normally is--I look old.

Some people can smoke and keep all their shit together--that's really great. I wish I were one of those people. However, when I smoke, I lose about 9/10ths of my brain capacity, and it returns pretty slowly. I am always very slow the next day. I went for a month without smoking it, and I had so much more energy, I felt so much better. With any luck, I'll stick to my resolution this time.

I used to smoke every single day, too. I don't anymore, because I seriously was too stupid. When I found myself having to stop and think for a minute before I could grasp something that should have been obvious, I knew that it was time to cut back.

I am still guilty of indulging now and again. I am not going to lie, I enjoy it when I do. BUT like Bridgette, I wake up the next day coughing and unmotivated!

    I smoke a few times a week.
    I use it to relax.
I find if I over abuse it I too become a little out of it the next day.

Hey I'm almost at 2 years without any, ever. Next month will make 2 years. I still feel the urge ONCE in a while if I catch a whiff of someone else's, but not enough to override the knowledge of how I'll feel tomorrow if I partake. I'm happy and feel better without!

Hehe, back in my day, shwag was perfectly acceptable if nothing better could be found!

    You guys are Funny!

Seriously, though......the point I am trying to get across is, if you are a heavy smoker maybe putting it down for a little while might not be a bad thing. You know your own body better than anybody else. Just to try it to see how you like sobriety for a week.

I stopped and am quite pleased with the results. Furthermore, I quit smoking cigarettes and drinking a few weeks ago too. I got the urge to purify my body, I suppose, and take good care of it.

good jobJuliette! I was a heavy hitter for years. In fact, my first DJ name was HION. I seriously cut back last year, after it became too hard to get out of bed, and the congestion in my lungs (which hasn't cleared up) Occasionally I smoke when I listen to a new mix, but its pretty rare. I feel much healthier. Although I never suffered from memory loss or stoner stupidity, I did get the munchies bad, and I am working my ass off for a better body, so why sabotage it. Besides, I don't want my baby girl to see me smoking anything. Its just not a good example.

I understand the enjoyment of smoking at creative and inspirational moments. At least you aren't wasting it by letting it make you stupid....more introspective. I cannot say with conviction that I will never smoke again. Good times may come.Maybe it's just that I want to know my clean and sober self for awhile.

I got to a point where pot didn't do anything for me. I would mostly just smoke it to get to sleep. Then I realized all the possible consequences and it just wasn't worth it. I did a couple hits like a year after I quit, and it still didn't really have an effect. It doesn't make me sick, but if I smoke enough of it it will slow me down the next day.

Hey sounds like a recent theory that happened to me a little while ago. I was a party girl's dream, I was out every night, smoking, drinking, whatever was there I was doing it. Started smoking really young but one bad acid trip and a 7 footer rip later, I could NOT smoke for the life of me for almost 3 years, I would get a horrible acid flashback when I did. Then I met TJ, pothead extraordinare (sp), and I hit it a couple of times when we were together but it always made me too giggly and I couldn't move to do anything then after like 2 hours of being high I would just fall asleep. I would try to stay awake and it wouldn't work. It's 2 in the afternoon and I'm passed out on the living room floor till the next morning. Too much work to be high if you ask me, takes too much time out of my day. Same way with drinking, I'll go to a party now and nurse one beer the entire night. So not like me.

I'm almost 19 and my party days are coming to an end, how sad is that?

Congrats on your 'mission to purify', Juliette! I was also a major pothead for many years, and found myself sharper, and more motivated when I quit. Now if I could only quit the drinking and cigarette smoking as well, I'm sure I'd feel a million times better

Thanks babe! Us Scorpio's need to support one another (no one else will!) I do find that when I do smoke, I make it an experiance. I turn off the lights, lay down, put headphones on, and listen, undisturbed, for an entire mix. I just let the music take me away. I really then can get the full effect of my mix, and also deeply listen to it to see if it flows right (Im a perfectionist) I find that 1 or 2 hits of good weed makes me super-stoned, especially listening to deep tribal house or trance.. No need to smoke any more than that.

I actually think I am allergic to pot - it makes me incredibly sick, I feel good for maybe 15-20 minutes and then I'm woofing my cookies, and that's no fun! Living in BC where the stuff is plentiful and of excellent quality, where you can possess personal quantities without repercussion, and I can't even enjoy the occasional toke...LOL!
