Two years ago I had a place in the world. I was a regular. OK, I was a regular
of two different girls, but I was steady.
Then came the dot-com bust. My economic situation changed, not as bad as some
people's, but I can no longer drop 200 bucks without blinking. These days if
I can make it into a club more than once in a month I'm doing good. And I'm
working all over, so I can't even hit the same clubs regularly. So what
happens, I meet a girl, buy 2 or 3 dances, have a wonderful time, make an effort
to find out what her schedule is, but I usually can't follow up. Even when I
can, it seems like turnover at the clubs is greater than it used to be, so I
generally wind up with someone different anyway.
It's nice in a way because I've met a bunch of really great people. It sucks
because just when I'm getting to know them I have to leave and by the time I get
back to that club they've changed their schedule or left.
So I've met seven or eight really terrific women in the past year, and I'd love to
be a steady source of income for every damn one of them. Instead I'm like a bee
constantly flitting to the next source of nectar.
So I guess what I'm saying is this: that guy you ran into last month, the one
who seemed so appreciative but then you never saw him again, try not to think
too badly of him. Maybe it's just economics.
