    Default New Piercing

During a very brief moment of insanity, I got a hood piercing. It's a tiny vertical barbell. I was wondering if anybody had any advice for care and healing beyond the standard that I'm following VERY carefully.

Just keep it clean (don't use anything special- just soap and water), and don't yank on it or let anyone yank on it (until later, if that's what you're into), they tell you no sex for 2 weeks- I waited 1 (couldn't go longer than that) and showered right afterwards.
Mine's been pierced for 7 years, never had a problem and infection a tear- nothing. You'll get told to use special antiseptics or don't do a lot of things- but TRUST me, unless you are a slow healer or have bad circulation, all you need to do is keep it clean.
My piercer was a direct student of Fakir Musara and that was the advice she gave me when she did my hood and later my nipples. Before I went to her, I went to this clown in a tattoo place for my bellybutton who told me to use antibacterial soap, and some other crap and my
piercing was infected the entire 2 years it was in.

I had sex 5 days after I got mine pierced... I've never had any problems with it or any infections. Be careful with the barbell though, I learned it can fall out (or become unscrewed) pretty easily.. mine fell out once during sex & once while I was in the shower. Good thing I found the barbell & put it back in right away, I am NOT getting it repierced if something ever happened! :o That shit hurt!

I have had my hood done for 7 months.
    Its also a vertical.
It was healed in three weeks.
I was having sex in the second week.
    You will love it!
Wait till you can explore on your own with it!!

He said it was a 13 ga. He told me to use my regular shower soap because changing the pH levels in that region would be bad and to clean it with bactine a couple times throughout the day. He also said not to put any goop on it. I'm very much looking foward to trying it out...

Seven years ago, I was told to put neosporin on my belly button. It took over a year to heal. A girlfriend of mine just got her belly button done, and the guy told her to put that on it. Is there a different maintance requirement for that piercing or is her piercer wrong??

My piercer told me that when I clean it to soap it up and move the jewelry around to get the soap in, rinse and move the jewelry around to get the soapm out. I did this for a few weeks then I ignored it. Had it for 5 years and have never had a problem with it. I have mine done horizontaly and the hole stretched after about 5 months. I went from either a 12 or 14 gauge to a 10 gauge hoop, it hasn't stetched at all since then.

Be carful not to hit it on the pole! I did this the day after I got it pierced !

Yeah...I worked the next day, and I was quite aware of it every time I climbed the pole. Like Yelle said, I am never going to get this repierced. I want to do it right the first time.

Thank you all for the advice.

Most piercers and tattoo artists will have different opinions on what works best on fresh piercings but most of them know what they're doing and you should trust your judgement. But what works on one person might not work on another. My piercer is highly reputed and I was told to use Provon, which is antimicrobal and will not damage your healing skin and won't irritate it which is what causes most infections in piercings. If you use a mild soap like Provon the chances of it getting infected are slim unlike using a antibacterial which is too harsh. One piercer told me to use Listerine in my tongue piercing and it wouldn't heal, I went to my piercer instead and was told to use Biotene and had no problems. BTW, not a good idea to use antibiotic ointment.

I've never heard of a 13ga, where are you from? Most ga's go 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, so on. 10ga's work the best on inner labia piercings because they are thicker and can withstand the tugging and moving around they get. Anything smaller would probably cause tearing and you would have to go to a bigger gauge anyway.

I have used Bactine before and it irritated my piercing because it dried it out too much. That might work for you I don't know.

If you ever get it pierced again try using an EMLA, it'll help alot!

I've never heard of a 13 ga either, but maybe it's out there. You jsut don't want it too thin because it will cut through like a wire if there's an accidental pulling.

I had mine done 3 years ago by an x boyfriend who was a tattoo artist and a piercer. He did it at his house with all the right tools from the shop. I wasn't really into it but he wanted to do it for me. It was free and at my comfort at his house on his bed. I personally think it was one of the easiest healing piercings for me. The next day I had forgot it was even there. I took care of it just by washing it in the shower with soap and water once a day and it was fine. I didn't stop having sex or anything. It healed and has never been infected. I love it. It's so pretty but can sometimes get in the way with oral though. I also notice it catches my blond hair when I shower. How my hair goes from my head to the piercing sucks. Err does that make any sense?

I'm probably wrong on the gauge then...that's just the number that popped into my head. I know he told me, but I must not remember. What's an EMLA? Raven, I'll probably never get a tongue ring. I'm too afraid of not being able to eat. I'm scared of being hungry. I know the next day I'd end up taking it out on my own.

Well, a hood piercing should heal real fast because for a start, your urine is the best 'antiseptic' you've got! Just remember to clean afterwards with baby wipes (instead of loo roll) to keep it fresh'n'funky. Mine healed within a week and I've now had my small vertical ring for just over 2 years. It's good for sex because I use the ring to pull the hood up and that means better access to the clit especially during oral (oooh I know, I'm a dirty bugger!)

An EMLA is a topical anesthetic cream. It usually takes up to 15 to penetrate regular skin but on mucous tissue it penetrates immediately. It can leave the entire area numb for up to 45 mins to an hour. It's also good for the soreness after the initial piercing.

Raven, I have my tongue pierced and I would say, brush your teeth before you get pierced because it's painful to brush your tongue after. Eat whatever you want before though because after you can probably only eat popsicles and baby food. I lived on baby food for about a day and then started eating more solid foods like mashed potatoes and soup and the like. I ate tacos on the third day and my speech was back to normal on the fourth. Also I would recommend rinsing with Biotene rather than Listerene. It's taste better and doesn't sting, plus it's not to harsh either.

Man I had sex ONE day after getting it pierced! That was the best sex ever! Oh well..memories..

Now about taking care of your piercing. I must say my piercer is GREAT!

She told me to only use antibacterial soap (Dial) when I'm in the shower. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT take baths! Bathtubs have so many germs in them it's not even funny. when you're in the shower, make sure you dont wash up with a washcloth ( considering that there are many germs there as well) and dont use a dry off towel. When these items dry, they can become moldy thus bringing on added bacteria. We really dont want that coming to your new piercing now do we. That's all of the advice I ever received from my piecer. I've had it for almost 3 years! Good luck! ers:

My husband's a tattoo artist, while he doesn't do peircings he knews more than the average joe about them.

I asked about a 13g and he said he beleives it's a European measurement and also some peircers will use a 13g needle for a 14g peircing.

And the pole incident hurt like hell! i imagine that's what its like for a guy to get kicked in the nuts!

Youchhhhhh! I have to give you girls much credit with getting pierced "down there". I don't think I could ever do that, I'm such a wussy when it comes to pain.. lol.. I did however, pierce my second holes (on my ears) myself. I was a very rebellious 13 year-old at the time, and I was told I couldn't get another hole in my ear. Soooo, I just took an ice cube, one of my grandmother's sewing needles, and voila.. instant piercing.. lol

LOL OMG Rhiannon-if you can pierce your ears yourself you're definitely not a wussy! I couldn't even imagine doing that... LOL! I don't mind getting peirced (hood/belly) but there is no way in hell I'm watching that, let alone doing it myself! LOL

As for care/healing- I was given the exact advice as cinammonkisses. It was the easiest to take care of and heal. I had next day sex too *g*

I've never heard of Euporean gauge that size either. Though I could be wrong, I thought measurements in Europe went by mm. My piercer pierces one gauge higher than the one your going to use, my belly button was pierced with a 12 ga and then I have 14 ga jewelry, so a 12 ga in mm is a 2mm.

Rhiannon, I did the same thing with my ears when I was 14. I completely understand. It had to be done.
My crazy little sister, however, did her own belly button when she was 12. That lasted about a month until our dad found out and removed it for her.

Well Hubby and I have matching nipple piercing... Our piercer recommended using Dr. Bronners soaps (http://www.drbronner.com/). If you have not tried them, I would recommend you get a bottle. So many lovely types and the soap are great. So much so, I have replaced all the body wash in our home with the stuff.

    Congratulations on your new ring
