    Default how to stop bruising??

Does any one here bruise badly after dancing?
I recently had a pole dance lesson and learnt to go upside down on the pole, which i was well psyched about. However i woke up the next day and my whole left side was bruised (well from the wrist down), and my knees always bruise from floor work. Also with skating i tend to injure my self quite a bit. I can handle the pain but it looks really crap, are there any possible ways to minimise bruising, or cover it up etc.
I'd be grateful for any help.

Goes with the territory, unfortunately! I have danced for 10 years, and STILL get bruises! There isn't any real way to prevent it, aside from not rolling on the bones, or slamming against the pole or edge of stage. I never tried to cover the bruises, but my skin is dark so it was less apparent. I've seen girls just use baby powder, some used foundation or derma blend. I would say start trying a liitle of this, a little of that and see what works best for you!

Something that helped me (though not to the point of *never* bruising) was drinking pineapple juice and soda. My understanding is that there is an enzyme in pineapple (bromelain) that helps prevent bruising. Also, if you are in an environment where you drink alcoholic beverages while working, subbing the Pineapple/soda drink will cut down on your alcohol consumption. Alcohol thins your blood and makes bruising happen more easily.

Another tip I was given came from a model friend: when her weight got very low she was bruising constantly. Her agency recommended supplementing with bioflavinoids to help with this. It worked for her and worked for me but the pineapple juice works just as well (for me).

Also, Mermaid is right in that your body will get used to it and you'll learn how to lessen the effects of stagework. Every little thing helps in the meantime, though!

Wear thigh high boots with padding inside. At least it covers the bruises until you can develop a tolerance for them.

I'm sad to say but I've just coped with the bruising! A lot of girls say wearing stockings or thigh highs helps because you slide more on stage preventing bruises. I don't know about that though, I'm sure it helps but I hate having to keep pulling them up all night or staining them from the stage. Garter belts arent an option for me cause I hate em! lol too uncomfortable.

Dreamer brings up a very good point! When i did floor work, and i did alot, you learn to cover those knees! What better way to look sexy and still get the moves than boots above the knee! I did have to put padding in a couple pair as i mentioned in older posts, but they stop the bruise from developing and if you already have some, you can still do floor work!

You also learn to toughen the knee area, i was at the point of looking like i had thick knee caps, so watch for too much knee crawling.

But the boots are the best for alot of floor work on the knees!

Kobi, do you take the tablets to prevent bruising, or just to treat existing bruises? And what dosage level, etc? I bought some a while back (pellets, 9 ch) but I haven't tried them yet.

I know they work for prevention, but I'm not sure how well they work for existing bruises. My guess is it couldn't hurt to try. I just followed the directions. My directions were chew one three times a day.

Witch hazel from the drug store works wonders.
It makes bruises fade away.It is a liquid.Make a wet copress and cover the bruise.
An other handy way to minimize them is to keep witch hazel in a spray bottle and spray your feet and legs though the night.
It is also good for sore museles and swollen feet and legs.
Sometimes I just pour some on and rub it in.

there's a pill called Arnica Montana (also comes in a topical gel but the pill is better). Take five (they're tiney) under the tongue a couple times a day. TOTALLY helps with bruising and soreness.

For covering bruises, you can try Dermablend (http://www.dermablend.com).

    Arnica Montana is good!
