Default Is Fred Joaillier watch vaulable?

A few years ago I was given a watch, by a customer, I assumed it was cheap so I didn't try to sell it (It's totally not my style and too big for my wrist). Well, yesterday I happened to come accross it, I somehow lost the box it came in; but the tag is still on it, hanging by string, and it says $1200.00 on one side and the logo Fred Joaillier paris, on the other.

The back of the watch says "waterresistant 3 ATM... ACIER ET OR 18K... FRED..." and some numbers and "made in France"

I don't know if it's really $1200 because the price is on a sticker attached to the actual plastic tag.

I don't know much about this sort of thing, and I don't want a to get taken at a pawn shop. I did a search on Yahoo for Fred J... and all I got were websites either written in French or "boycot French products listings."

Anybody heard of this brand? ers:

Fred is part of LVMH-Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton
You may be able to find the local retailer at
    http://www.fred-paris.com/default.asp
    to confirm its realness.

I doubt it is a fake since it is not a "major name".

Naomi take it a jewler and they will open it up, upon looking in the opened watch they will be able to tel if it's a "copy."
I have heard of the watch, since i LOVE watches... Hope you got the real thing, and it's an oldie.....MONEY!

Thanks, those websites helped me out, more faith in it's value now. I'm gonna take it in to a few places and see what they tell me. I've never pawned anything before; but I've bought things at pawn shops and I've seen how they deal with the pawners... not good with the whole bargining thing.

I am not sure what you can expect at a pawn shop since I am not familiar with them. But as a simple test of the waters, I tried searching for "Fred Joaillier watch" on Ebay and got 0 hits. Only one hit on the first 2 words for a scarf. While quite valuable as a fashion watch I am not sure how well known the name is outside the fashion world. That may translaye to a low offer from a shop. It could have just been today and more of them are transacted over a longer period. I would definitely go to a very upscale place specializing in fashion items. You may do better trying to sell it on ebay if the pawn results are not favorable. Another option is wading through the watch sellers on ebay for one that is local and maybe putting it on consignment with them or selling there.

you might want to call the fred store down here (not sure if there is one in dallas) and see if they have a buyer for it or are willing to put it towards purchase price of new jewlery

    My $0.02...

I too would pass on the pawn shop. They are notorious for giving very little for items, especially if it isn't a name that Joe Average would be familiar with. Pawn shops prey on desparation or they wouldn't make much on the items for sale.

What I would do is first go to a jeweler and verify its authenticity. I would then put it on Ebay with very good pictures and a good descripition that included the history of the maker's name and why it is valuble and desirable. I'd also make sure that the auction ended during work hours in the US or your target selling country. Two of the same item can go for completely different prices on these variables. Look for examples from Power Sellers with similar items. I would try to mention that it is part of the LVMH-Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton family corp. in the main description... see how others go about that sort of thing.

If my reserve wasn't met, I'd pay the small fee and look into consigning it at an upscale retail boutique. The small fees you pay to sell the watch this way will be worth it versus what kind of hit you'd take from a pawn shop. Good Luck.
