Default Am so lost with this question, please help!!

If any on could help me with this I would be so happy !!
I am an Australian exotic dancer, and I am coming to the USA next year and I know that getting a working Visa for a dancer is just not possible (who is going to give a stripper a working Visa (I wish!!)), but I really really want to dance in the states, but I heard that the clubs get raided by police all the time and if I danced there illigaly I would need to go to a club in a state thats really easy going and that I know I could go with out a licence and not get arrested any suggestions?
    Thanks for your help xoxoxo

I'm in the exact same situation....

I'm from London, England and will be moving to there states next year. I will be on a student visa but i won't be able to work on that either...

I'm still not sure as to what i'm going to do but i will be in NY and from what i have heard clubs there do not really get raided and also you don't need a licence to be work in NY.

I don't know if obtaining a fake I.D is an option but of course you are doing this at your own risk....

Hopefully others will be able to advise you more than i can.

    Good luck..... Seraya.

I am a dancer from NZ/Aus and I have been dancing in Canada (Toronto) for the last 5 months. I was looking into dancing in the States but decided not to risk it. There seems to be some clubs that will let you work without a visa/license. I spoke to a guy from Larry Flints Hustler Club in San Fran and also a guy at Cleopatras viewpoint in Potrland who seemed keen to let me work. I am sure there are a few other clubs aswell all I can suggest is that you email around and see what the response is. Also be careful carrying your dancing gear in your luggage etc... if you get caught you will get sent home promptly. I guess all I can suggest is make sur you do your research and take all the precautions!

It's unfortunate that one of the results of the Patriot Act and heightened awareness of "illegal aliens" working inside the USA has been that EVERYBODY coming into the country with honest intent now gets heavily scrutinized. At the same time, there are probably just as many Mexicans wading north across the river, and probably just as many middle easterners sneaking through the Canadian woods at night, as there ever were.

I'm actually rather surprised to hear that a Hustler club was so willing to hire you. Hustler/DejaVu is a very large chain with full time attorneys on staff, and undoubtedly they are VERY aware of the penalties to the corporation if caught employing "illegal aliens". I'm also certain that any corporate clubs in the USA have "job applications" approved by these attorneys which they must use when hiring new dancers. Odds are this is going to put you in a position of having to invent a US Social Security number plus list a US address in order to be hired. This of course puts the onus on you, since if the club is ever seriously busted and your application is discovered to be false it puts you in the position of being caught commiting "identity fraud". This could conceivably result in a fate worse than just deportation.

Undoubtedly there are and will always be American clubs who will hire dancers without requiring that any paperwork whatsoever be filled out, who won't ask your real name or actual citizenship or immigration status. However, these sorts of clubs also seem to carry their general disregard of the finer points of American law over to other areas of the law as well ... such as prostitution and drugs!

I have an idea. It may not be a good one but it's and idea. Go to the blue site and find a guy to marry. It would be hard to find someone to trust I guess but you never know. You don't have to live together or anything just stay married long enough to make you a US Citizen. I know I would do it but I'm married already. I do not mean this as a joke or to get -karma. I just know people do it all the time so why can you?

I would be very suspicious of an club owner/manager that is "keen" to let you dance. From what I have seen they like having a girl in a position that they "owe" them. I wouldn't want to see you in that situation.

For a fact, the deal of marrying a U.S. citizen, waiting 6 months for your 'green card' and then getting divorced, is a fairly common technique used by girls who wish to permanently relocate to the USA. It may cost you some money in attorney's fees, as well as 6 months worth of bullshit, but in the end you will be able to live and work in the USA more or less permanently.

I also have to agree with BDoc that a dancer placing herself in the position of having one phone call from the club manager to the INS resulting in her deportation or arrest for "identity fraud" sows the seeds for all sorts of nasty situations ...

Hiya Melonie i think it atually takes 3yrs to obtain a green card but in the meantime you will get temporary residence and you will be able to work.

Also would you have to consult a lawyer or would you just go through immigration service's?

I think if you get married in the u.s. it works. I know of mexicans that do it all the time.

yup, Big Daddy, you are correct. If a girl is in the US on a visitor's visa, and marries a US citizen generating a US marriage license, then it's extremely unlikely that the INS will force her to leave when here visitor's visa expires. It's an entirely different situation when the marriage occurs in a foreign country, because instead of being in a situation of already being here and requiring a deportation proceeding to kick you out, you will not be here and will be seeking permission to be let in (along with a million other people)!

OK, this idea is kind of off-the-wall, and it would require a cooperative club owner, but it might work. Learn (you'd have to acquire some kind of credential) a particular style of dance that's not very common. I'm fuzzy about this part, but I believe there are a lot of different varieties of erotic dance specific to different ethnicities, and these days it's possible that one might be able to acquire training in such. The only classes I've seen are in the US, for American Tribal Style Belly Dance. It might seem odd for a non-American to be hired as a specialist in ATSBD, but I'm sure qualified practitioners are unavailable in many
communities. You could acquire the training (it's cheap: http://www.fcbd.com/html/classes.html) on a student visa (or probably even a tourist visa). Then a club owner could hire you on an H1B visa, since you are offering a skill that the club can't obtain locally.

Hey, I said it was off-the-wall.

the H1B Visa only seems to work if you're talking about a "feature" performer, who has a previously arranged appearance schedule at US clubs (via an agent), and who has a firm date when she will be entering and LEAVING the USA. US Immigration does NOT consider dancing in any form as a profession for which there is a shortage of US candidates, which would be necessary for the granting of an open ended H1B visa. It takes a lot more than a local clubowner to secure approval for an open ended H1B visa, most notably your profession appearing on US Immigration's approved list i.e. Medical Doctors, Physicists

Thanks for replying to my msg guys It is a bit risky, I might have to think about it some more I dont want to be arrested, I might have to force some poor man to marry me hehe
The reason I wanted to go so badly is there is only so much money you can make in Oz, its not bad money by any means but it would be nice to make more and travel to an amazing country at the same time.

I know how you are feeling Salina but believe me the grass is not always greener on the other side! I went to Canada thinking how much better it must be compared to Aus but was proved wrong, it cost me alot of money and emotional hardship to realise just how good I had it back there. Where abouts are you dancing? Have you thought of travelling Aus? I did that for a year working at various clubs along the way and loved it That way you get a change of scenery and also you don't have to worry about immigration/visa bullshit. Just an idea.......

I just wanted to clear up a common misconception, but getting married will not solve your problems with being an illegal alien. I know this first hand. There are stacks of papers to fill out, long waiting lists, and you will still not be legal. And you will have alot of problems with immigration so you'll need a lawyer. After marriage you still have tons of paperwork to do every year. And after several years you can finally apply for citizinship and of course with that there is more paperwork and even tests. Good Luck!
