Howdy Folks -
Its Holiday time, which brings festive feelings, Xmas parties and usually a lot of drinking. Sadly, that also brings a lot of drunk driving, and fatalities.
I would just like to ask of all those who reads these Forums - regular posters and lurkers alike - to be extra extra careful when drinking during the season. So many people think "I can have that last one - what the Hell.. it’s Xmas". Usually that last one is the one that you DONT need. It can be the one that puts you over the edge and makes you a danger to yourself and others.
Xmas may be a more festive time, but that doesn’t have any bearing on the possibilities of getting into an accident - death doesn’t take the holidays off. I have seen that time and time again - "Oh, it’s alright.. nothing will happen to me", "Hey it’s the Holidays... I will be fine" etc. Guess what? People who think that are wrong.
Please please please, fellow and beloved Forum Members - if you are drinking this holiday, pace yourself, drink on a full stomach (eat BEFORE you start drinking, not while you are drinking), alternate between an alcoholic and a non-alcoholic drink, refrain from doing that Holiday shot, and DONT take that one last drink for the road. I want you all to be safe for yourself and others.
Tonight I worked a short, 4-hour shift. In that time I cut off 6 people. All six said something to the effect that "Why are you cutting me off? It’s the Holidays!". None saw that they were getting drunker, and used the Holidays as an excuse to try to get more. I can live with someone being pissed at me - I can’t live with someone dying because I over served them. I get this every Xmas, and so far, going on 12 years, no one has gotten into an accident after leaving my bar. Holidays or no Holidays, being drunk and driving will get you killed.
I wish to everyone here a great holiday, and I want you all alive when it’s done. Just say "no thanks" for that last drink.
Take care and "Fleas Navy Dad”.
PJ
