Food for thought: abuse laxatives, and you'll tear apart your intestines. Over abuse can eventually lead to SHITTING at RANDOM! No control what-so-ever! I know a couple of nurses who dance. I even (somewhat) went that route. Bad idea.
As far as bloating goes, depending on diet and water intake can prevent it. Actually, the more water you drink, the less water retention you'll have. Please be smart about weight loss. Too many are uneducated and looking for a quick fix. Not good!

Kali,
Listen to Megan she knows what she's talking about. You don't want to be 25 with the intestines of an 80 year old.

Sure dont..anyway using laxatives for "weight control" isnt' possible. All you'll be losing is water weight. And secondly, you never want to abuse something like that. Just do regular exercise and that'll help with weight control.

I occasionally resort to using laxatives but only when it's truly a big deal career wise i.e. prior to a photo shoot which will appear in a national magazine. Laxatives do make a difference in being able to shed that last inch or two around your waist and achieve a totally flat tummy. However, they are "strong stuff" and are not to be taken lightly ... I'm talking about using them a couple of times per YEAR not a couple of times per week!
Thanks for the insite ladies. I do actually enjoy working out at the gym, but I was considering using them for my bloated days. Guess I'll just keep my water close by instead.

I was a manic dieter when I was in college and used laxatives for that reason. Luckily, before I graduated, I obtained some brains and realized that weight loss is a gradual thing and a good diet w/ exercise is a life-style choice not a fix!
However, I still did have problems w/ bloating especially w/ PMS. I have found evening primrose oil to help tremendously. I don't even get bloated until maybe the day before my period. Sometimes not even then. I take about 500mgs. per day. Two weeks before "Mr. P" shows up, I take up to 2000 mgs. It seems to help get rid of minor headaches too.

I can't understand how laxatives help with losing weight???
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
There are major problems and concerns with taking laxatives on a regular basis and for reasons other than to help the bowels move. LAXATIVES ARE A MEDICATION. Even when used to help the bowels move for those with constipation (I have chronic bowel problems including constipation) you CANNOT take them on a regular basis or your bowels will not be used to working without them.In short you will either become more constipated and your body dependent on them or as Megan stated you will have bowel leakage. It will also as another stated TEAR UP your intestines which can lead to the acid causing a hole in your intestines. Also do you really want a sore ass :o when you are dancing? Having the loose stools that go with using a laxative can make that area really sore which can make a thong feel rather uncomfortable and make one feel less than confident.
I use a natural stool softener only when necessary and drink large amounts of water.
I'm sure there are products on the market specifically for bloating. You'd be better off taking them.
As said before... treat your body right now... because later you still want it working right.
thanks again for the advice ladies...
i hope you all had a nice Christmas.

Instead of taking a laxative (like senna, mineral oil, Correctol etc.) try taking a fiber supplement every day. Fiber is good for several reasons. It keeps your intestinal tract clean, makes "going" easier, helps regulate blood sugar, and aids in weightloss. Try taking a teaspoonful of fiber 15 minutes before each of your 3 big meals a day. This will cause you to eat less, which will help you drop some weight. Also you'll notice you are less bloated and get less heartburn too. YOu can get Metamucil, but a better product is something called Konsyl. It has the most fiber per teaspoon dose of any fiber product. It's usually marketed to doctors, but you can find it in an CVS or other drugstore in the fiber sections.

lol hunter without reading your respose i was going to post the same thing.Originally Posted by thehunter link=board=5;threadid=5409;start=msg59630#msg59630 date=1072750642
yes honey fibre is very good, i take Psyllium Husks Fibre which is 100% pure,it works for me.

eating a lot of fruit and vegetables contains ample fiber (meat and dairy contain no fiber) to keep the bowels moving along.
Vegatation is the proper way to have fiber in the <A TITLE="Click for more information about diet" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://search.targetwords.com/u.search?x=5977|1||||diet|AA1VDw">diet</A>, not a bottle of some manufactured crap.
Friut and veggies(raw) also have a high water content, which also helps out with bowel movements and hydrates the body.
You only have to talk to your pharmacist to know the hidden dangers of laxatives! When I found out, I looked at them in a totally different light. Please do not resort to them as a diet supplement. That will only lead to trouble.
