Well,
after trying out karma for a bit Pryce and I have decided to take it off the boards, we have been convinced that it will do more harm than good.
We'll post more later when we have the time![]()

im damn sexy and you know you want me!

I had already forgotten about the karma deal. I would forget to look at the little numbers on the left. It didn't really matter one way or the other to me.

That's too bad, I thought it was kind of fun.

because some people will smite others when they share diffrence of opinion on a certain topic even if the person did nothing wrong (its like saying i like apples and you like oranges ....i should smite you because you like oranges and not apple) i didn't mind the karma but...didn't some guys here complain about being smited ....anyways enough of this karma thingy i'm tired of hearing about it alreadyOriginally Posted by Bridgette link=board=1;threadid=5512;start=msg59530#msg59530 date=1072727668

I agree with Bridgette.Originally Posted by Bridgette link=board=1;threadid=5512;start=msg59530#msg59530 date=1072727668
Personaly, I liked it and thought it would be a useful tool to deter flames and point out trolls. I'm a little disapointed to see it cut - and so soon too.

I was indifferent to the whole Karma/Smiting thing. The possibility of garnering plusses or minuses never was a factor in anything I posted. However, if it seemed like it was a problem for a lot of people (no matter what the reason was), then in terms of the overall good of the board, I am glad its gone.
I help run another website and webboard, and I occasionally make decisions that upset members of the board, but I have to consider the good of the board as a whole, not just certain people. I understand the thought process behind Pryce and Girlfriday's choice here.
Props and kudos to them for trying it out and making a site-wise decision about it.

I enjoyed the whole Karma thing as well. And everyone is right, sometimes people would "hold back" on their opinions in fear of getting points taken off.
Trust me, you dont have to say it to see it you know. I noticed that with the who Karma thing, alot of people had pretty ummm narrow views. No one really voiced their opinions. Alot of people were in just total agreeance over every little thing. Oh well, maybe it's good that it's gon.

I totally agree with everything you wrote PJ.... It also seemed to me that it REALLY was a problem for a lot of ppl even though in previous threads some said that it didn't.Originally Posted by Prester_John link=board=1;threadid=5512;start=msg59578#msg59578 date=1072740791
It doesnt bother me either way but if it means that ppl don't feel comfortable posting their honest opinions and feel upset about recieving low karma or feel less "popular" etc.... than it's a good thing.
Props to pryce and GF for keeping the site interesting and entertaining though!

Six of one, half dozen of the other. Who cares? If you really need it, you can write your own karma line.

Also has anyone ever heard of a Canadian stripper named Karma? Tall cute redhead with the friendliest most addicting personality...
Anyways she was a great dancer, worth mentioning!
smart, pretty, horny.........pick two.

Good God, Karma is a GREAT name for a dancer! I will remember that for the next newbie that needs one, so long as she can wear it well...
As far as the whole karma points thing went...well, it was fun to try to figure out who had smitten me, no doubt for telling them there was no Santa Claus in VIP. It was kind of a cool idea, but I can see that some people were annoyed, and I don't miss it.

If someone here would hold back their true opinions just because they were afraid of 'getting points taken off', wouldn't they also be inclined to hold back voicing an 'unpopular opinion' for fear of getting flamed? I don't see what's the difference. Those who aren't afraid of having someone disagree will post what they think regardless. Those who ARE afraid of having someone disagree will tend to hold back, regardless of whether we have the karma thing or not. Many people have admitted to holding back for fear of getting flamed. What's the difference if they hold back for fear of 'losing points' rather than being flamed? They're still holding back, just for a different reason.
What I noticed more than any holding back of varying opinions, was that some people seemed to be more eager to get 'karma points', like some sort of contest. I think the 'popularity' thing was more of an issue than any holding back.
I couldn't care less that it's gone. Heh, I didn't even notice the numbers were gone until I logged on and read this thread for the first time. But it was amusing as a bit of side entertainment.

What it came down to for us is that we want as many people as possible to feel comfortable posting and sharing. For some timid newbies - it may be uncomfortable to post for the first time...especially in a large established community. I don't want to put more barriers up for them. We'll soon have a welcome/introduction board - hopefully making it easier for newbies to "step out of the closet" and say hello (we get about 3000 silent guests a day).![]()
HeroesWe all imagine ourselves the agents of our destiny, capable of determining our own fate. But have we truly any choice in when we rise, or when we fall, or does a force larger than ourselves bid us our direction. Is it evolution that takes us by the hand, does Science point our way, or is it God who intervenes keeping us safe.
So much struggle for meaning, for purpose. And in the end, we find it only in each other. Our shared experience of the fantastic. And the mundane. The simple human need to find a kindred, to connect. And to know in our hearts... that we are not alone.

That would be cool, as I have several friends who are too shy or reluctant to post here, in spite of the fact that they like the forum (hear that Maria, Michelle, Destiny, and Layla?).

I'm not going to play the whole nonchalant bit here, regarding the karma smite fling we had, I participated enough to appreciate the concept.
The actual terms are what threw me off. Karma and Smite? It's a bit too biblical for my taste, I mean who the hell am I to either bless someone with good karma, or smite them to the pits of hell with a mere flick of my finger. Yes, I realize that I may be reading too far into this; but I'd like you guys to come up with a slightly similar system, with less blasphemous terms, that may even be kept private for each member. This privacy will reduce the amount of those annoying popularity contestant's and their ass-kissing.
