Default Going to Vegas next week

I know, I know, another traveling dancer asking Vegas questions. I already have an idea as to where I want to work and how to get jobs there, I know where I'm staying etc, etc...

But I do have a few questions about some specifics. I plan on staying on the Boulder Strip (motels are less expensive and it seems like it might be little more low key), but I plan on trying to work at Treasures, OG, Spearmint Rhino, Strip Tease, or Cheeta's. Will this cost me a fortune in cab fares, and renting a car would be cheaper in the end? From what I can tell it looks like a one way trip downtown from the Boulder strip will cost about $7 before tip, but I'm not sure my info is correct.

With those rates for cab fare it probably would be cheaper then renting a car, but I wanted someone to confirm that for me. The other option is public transportation. Is it safe and does it go downtown? I'm not above riding the bus or light rail. I actually kind of enjoy the time to read and relax while riding the bus here, but I definately would hire a cab for the ride home after work for safety reasons.

I know I have to get "hired" at a club before applying for my sheriff's card, but where do I go to get the darn thing. All I need is an address and I can mapquest it from there.

And one last question... :idiot: Would I need more outfits then would fit in a backpack? I planned on bringing to work about 1-2 dresses 3-4 thongs and one pair of shoes, as well as makeup, hairspray etc. If the lockers are tiny then I know I wouldn't want to bring more then this, but if the clubs require frequent costume changes then I would need to bring my dufffel bag, too.

Someone who has a lot of Vegas expeirence should write an article for the "Articles" section of this forum on going to work in Vegas and what to expect, so that way there aren't the repeat questions (such as this one) on the boards.

Thank you in advance, XOXO Paris Love

Hmm...lemme see if I can help you out. In order of closeness to the Boulder strip, its OG, Cheetahs, Treasures, Spearmint Rhino, StripTease. For OG and Cheetahs, it may be cheaper by cab, however cab rates are fairly high in LV. For the other 3, a car may be cheaper if you're paying about $20 - $25/day. Also, downtown is closer to the Boulder Strip than any of these clubs. I'd think minimum $10 for OG, more for the others. Yeah, you've got to pay for gas, however you don't have to tip anyone with your own car. And you don't have to wait out in the cold. There's no light rail, and bus service is good, however I'm not sure if it goes near most of the clubs.

The building for sherriff's cards used to be downtown. Now its down at Cameron and Hacienda, which is probably 2 miles past Strip Tease, so its a haul, especially in a cab. You'll need drivers license, birth certificate and passport, I think. I know there's a website that tells you the particulars. Notably, I think you need the original or a certified copy of your birth certificate (that may be age related, though). The cost is around $45.00. When my wife was going for her new card, she got a referral from a guy at the club that used to be Club Exotica. I forget its new name. However, if you impress at an audition, you can probably get a referral slip. You may want to call the clubs first to ask their policy.

The number of outfits sounds a bit low, my wife probably takes 6 or so to work in an oversized gym bag each shift, however she also likes to sew, so maybe she's above the norm. Not having access to the dressing rooms, I couldn't say for sure. Again, I'd check with the club that hires you. I'd be prepared to take 3-4 outfits though. Better to have the capacity and not need it than need it and not have it.

Hopefully this helps a little. Have a safe trip here!

I think renting a car will be the way to go--assuming you won't be drinking. Taxi's from the boulder strip will be costly. None of the clubs you mentioned are "downtown". I'm sure the cabfare will be more than $10 each way w/o tip.

You may want to change locations after you get your bearings. I've heard that the Sahara, which is on the strip, has reasonable rooms rates. You may want to check the Stratosphere also. There are probably hotels with reaonable rates. Las Vegas is a fairly easy town to get cheap rooms once you know your way around. I know there are a number of suite type motels where you rent by the week instead of by the night. They may be an option.

Some great points here. OG is just a stone's throw (okay, a long heave) from the Stratosphere and Cheetah's isn't much farther. My brother has stayed there and I've seen the rooms, and they are nice. Nothing special, pretty Holiday Inn-ish, however certainly livable. Stratosphere and Sahara are also much closer to all the clubs you mentioned than anything on the Boulder Strip. Palace station is close to Cheetah's and is literally across I-15 from Pleasures and is central to all the clubs you mentioned, so it might be an option, too.

WOW! Lots of great info, you guys, thanks! Because of your input I've decided to drive there instead of flying. It is about 15 hours from my home, so I was thinking of stopping at San Fransico for a night or two for sight seeing on the way there and back.

I do have dozens of outfits (enough to fill two foot lockers and still have some hanging in my closet) I was just wondering about storage space in the clubs themselves and leaving the rest in my motel room the rest of the time.

Since I plan on staying a while, I will look around for motels/hotels that offer weekly rates. I like to budget for less than $50 a night and am very happy if I can stay a whole week for less than $250.

I figured that "The Strip" was downtown. I guess that the casinos would be somewhere separate from the business district, now that I think about it. The closest I've ever come to Vegas is Sacramento, so I'm going to go buy myself a map and plan my motel search that way.

Again, thanks for all the great info. You've been very helpful

    Paris,

A lot of times weekday rates at places like Sahara or Stratosphere can be as low as $25-$29 with weekends around $49-$59. I don't know how close your visit will be to CES, however that may drive rates up. I'd go to somewhere like Vegas.com or lasvegas.com and check their reservation systems. They tend to have good prices. You may even want to check hotels.com. The disadvantage of hotels.com is that you have to pay in advance.

In terms of driving, if you're coming in via Reno, make sure to check on road conditions. There's been a lot of snow in the mountains this year. If you're coming up I-15 from LA/Bakersfield or that direction, don't come in on a Friday night unless you enjoy traffic jams.

You don't need more than one outfit per night unless you chose too. At any of the Vegas clubs I have danced at I never change, and I hardly ever see any other girls change either. Some clubs have full size lockers for nightly use (OG's) and some the lockers are reserved for the local or regular girls and you have to have a house mom lock them up or leave it out, so don't bring anything valueable to work.

As far as the clubs you mentioned, here is there order of contact, from most to least, as far as I know.
Cheetahs, OG's, Spearmint Rhino, and Treasures. I know nothing about Striptease except that it is one of the smaller and less popular ones. OG's is good about giving out referral sheets. If it were me, I would get a referral sheet from OG and go work at SR, out of the clubs that you mentioned. I work at Crazy Horse Too and like it there though.

Here's a link to an "enhanced" (heh heh) map that I made myself on the compy for my trip. I've had so many people here ask me since I got back where all the "attractions" were located that I uploaded it to a webpage. It's by no means complete and needs some updating, but it will give you an approximation of where most of the clubs are at.

As far as accomidations if you are not too concerned with an outdoor entry place, that Budget Suites of America (702)-732-1500 located just west of the Stardust (#10 on the map) that Sitara mentioned is just off Industrial Road and is very close to a number of clubs. Looked like there was plenty of parking and very decent rates. You can save even more money if you bring your own linens.

If you're going to stay out on Boulder Strip, traffic will become an issue on weekend nights when you get near Las Vegas Blvd. The locals might correct me on this if I'm wrong, but I remember an underpass underneath LV Blvd. (Desert Inn Road?, marked on the map) which helps east-west traffic flow between the two sides of town without getting snarled up at the Strip. This might be a handy route to take to save some driving time. Best of luck. Wish I could go back out again and see you.

If you are a new hire after the end of the year at a Vegas club, the club might require you to get an independent contractor's business license as well. You can get that downtown as well, it costs $100 and is good for use at multiple clubs. So bring an extra $100 just in case and be prepared for a few hours of standing in line to file some paperwork.

(If you're one of the lucky girls at the Crazy Horse, you can be lazy and pay the club lawyer to file the business license paperwork for you).

I just worked at Treasures the other night and I talked to a dancer from Saphires. They aren't making the girls at either one of those clubs get a that $100 license as far as I know. At Crazy Horse they have people who are there with the applications. I just picked up one tonight. I wonder if the other clubs are going to require it and be super strict with the enforcement.
Striptease is a very beautiful club with nice lockers and a very nice dressing room. They do have a lot of uglies in there though and not much business because of all the uglies. I would suggest the Spearmint Rhino. The 3am shift is my personal favorite and it's less expensive. Crazy Horse Too might let you work the day or morning shift. They are overloaded with dancers on the night shift. I really like it at CH2. They are very fair with the dancers. Treasures is super pretty, but they are a bit strict on the lap dances in my opinion. You have to pay an up front fee and they will probably make you start out on the day shift. They also have a ton of dancers. A lot of Jaguars girls are there now. I don't think that it will be that easy to get a good shift until Jaguars opens up again. The Galardis have a court date on the 6th and 2? of this month. I hate those damn anti business politicians so much.

Even though Cheetahs is owned by the same people that run Jaguars, I really don't like it there. The guys are total cheap skates. It just wasn't my crowd. Of course I had only been dancing for a couple of months when I tried it. Maybe I just wasn't ready for it yet.

Definately stay at the Budget Suites just off the strip. They are new and the Boulder Hwy area is pretty yucky and not very safe.

    Hey Paris good luck.....

Here is the scoop on vegas in my opinion....from personal experience...and from the many girls from Salt Lake that used to go to Vegas regularly.

Always go when there is an event like a fight, rodeo or good convention. Vegas truly sucks when there is no big event in town.

The hustle is to go gambling. Big spenders like to have strippers go gambling with them and they will give you money to gamble with. You can keep it. If you get asked to go gamble you will likely make at least a thousand that night. Call off sick for the night in question if possible....leaving with a customer is virtually impossible in vegas -don't try it. If you do try it and you use a cab bear in mind the club will call the cab company and ask where the cab took you.

Despite that if a whale asked me to go gamble with him that very night I would probably try very hard to get out of work and go do it...lol...even if I got fired. The money is just too good.

I think its odd that no one seems to know much about the new business licence stuff. So far, the only clubs that have been handing out paperwork have been Crazy Horse Too and Olympic Gardens.

My guess is that the other clubs are simply ignoring the issue so far, and won't bring it up until the last few days before this new licence is enforced. Rumor has it that this licence will be required sometime between January and June, and that it will possible increase in price every year afterwards. Plus the possible fine for being caught working without one will be $10,000!

This is a business licence required by the STATE OF NEVADA, so it will not matter what city or county you work in...you will need it.

What this means is that alot of girls probably won't be told that they need a business licence to work by their club UNTIL THE LAST POSSIBLE MINUTE, which will leave a bunch of dancers scrambling to get paperwork done and not be able to work until it was finished.

I wasn't taking any chances and wanted to avoid a rush like this so I've already filed my paperwork.

But this is going to be one big mess when things finally hit the deadline. Its going to suck big time for any dancers who are out of towners who come out occasionally to work.

I don't think the business license is anything new. When I danced in Reno in 2001 I was required to buy one back then. I think it was less than $100 but I don't remember exactly.

I know very little about it but I think that maybe the clubs might be smelling some blood in the water in Vegas. If they require their dancers to have business licenses it would be difficult for the girls to claim that they are employees of the clubs, and therefore unable to get back wages in a law suit.

But again, I know nothing about this situation in Nevada. I was required to buy a business license and have a noterized independant contrator statement in Montana to work for the clubs that didn't pay a wage. This cost $35 for the business license and$18 for the IC statement. In Oregon if you are an Independant Contractor you don't need a business license if you are doing business under your own name. Just any licensing required by the state to practice your trade ie; cosmetology, plumber, electrician, etc. So far there are no dancer license requirements, but I have a feeling that is just around the corner.

I will see if I can work a few day before being required to buy one. I will get one before I start working if I have too, but I really would like to have the cash on hand in case I need it for other stuff (like a new hand bag or shoes )

Am I confusing you with someone else? I could have sworn that I remember you talking about the very low contact atmosphere in which you work.

Vegas is anything but low contact.

Yes, Oregon is low contact, but I have danced in many different states, and have had expeirence in vaying degress of contact. I prefer contact dances where the guys are limited or not allowed to touch at all, and the dancer has the control. I dance quite a bit in Montana, and many clubs there have as much contact if not more than in Vegas. In Three Forks, Montana the guys are permitted to gently caress the dancers (if the dancer so chooses) during a nude private dance. In Billings Montana the girls pick up money off the customer's face with their bare crotch while the guy lays on the stage.

I think I am prepared to dance in Vegas as long as I don't have to submit to having my crotch and boobs fondled. I'm pretty sure that that kind of touching is highly illegel there, so it shouldn't be a big deal for me to not allow that kind of contact.

But, yes, AmberLee, I dance in Oregon where if a dancer touches any part of her breasts or buttocks, the entire club could lose it's liquor license. It is pretty strict here, to say the least.

Perhaps my experience differs from most, but every time I've scanned the room at OG in Vegas more hands were on the breasts than on the armchair.

The Adult Entertainment Expo (10,000 attendees) and CES (Consumer Electronic Show, 115,000 attendees) are both the weekend of 1/8-11.

CES is much better then the Adult Entertainment Expo. CES guys want to spend money on strippers, the Adult Entertainment attendees are more interested in oogling free porn stars, trying to get into parties where there will be porn stars, or trying to get dancers to go with them to sex parties where there will be porn stars. In other words, they are not as interested in buying lap dances as the guys from CES are.

It should be interesting to see what will happen with both of these events falling on the same week. All in all, it should even out to be a decent week to work.

From what I understand, Nevada is now requiring dancers to have an independent contractor's license. Since there in no NV individual income tax, I suspect its just to raise revenues through the license fees. However, it may have bigger ramifications on the federal level if Nevada shares this information with the Feds, as they can then tell the IRS "Make sure all these people report income from entertainment on their tax returns." I have no idea if that's going to happen, however the groundwork is now there for it.

I think that technically dancers probably should have had this license all along, its just that with the state budget problems they've now decided to enforce the law.

There's a couple of comments about this above. I don't know if the clubs have a hard and fast rule. I did some checking and couldn'd find the law for this, so I'm not sure where you'd apply. Can anyone else shed some light on this?
