Been in several clubs during several of them all in the same city. Never got a ticket because they are fairly easy to spot and I'm naturally shaky about the whole club thing. There's an unwritten agreement between clubs and vice cops around here that says they are gonna bust not truly frequently unless your club's owner has a beef with them but they will bust every now and then. If you have a smaller club it will happen less often. If you have a bigger club they will be in more often. Around election time they will be in on a bi or tri weekly basis to generate revenue to hopefully get more city money pushed their way. When the new person is elected they will be in on the same basis to give this official a record for being tough on crimes and dirty clubs.
The actual city laws are topless only no contact, walk into any club around here and you'd never believe it even if a cop stood next to you and told you. We have cops in our club at the bar and in the DJ booth on weekends near closing and they never say a word. Thats just the way it works, but if you are spotted dancing when they come in for a raid you are issued a misdemeanor ticket for indecent exposure/public nudity, lewd conduct or contact, pornographic performance or exposure, or somethind stupid along those lines. Make em made and you'll get more than one of those charges and more than one ticket. Piss them off or cuss them out and they'll take you to jail. It costs I think $115 or $125 now and you can go pay it or fight it. They take a digicam picture of you and run your info to check for warrants. If none you get a piece of paper and are let go if you don't give them problems.

ok heres the situation - At the time I was Head Floorman/asst.Mang at an EUSA club located in the buckle of the bible belt. My twin brother was working with me that night as a floorman and we we in thback hallway (where entertainers &employees enter). 4 plain clothes ALE/ABC (alch law enfoce) officers came barging through the back door. We didn't know the guys so we went after them. I threw one down my brother grabbed another. I grabbed the third in a judo hold and the fourth ran back out the door. The next thing I know, the fourth guy is coming back in with about 10 uniform cops GUNS DRAWN!!!
My brother and I were handcuffed. the closed the doors and searched the dancers lockers (cutting off the locks), the DJ booth (the even tested the DJ's Goody headache powders to see if they were coke), and the they searched the office.
They rounded up everyone they could charge (7 staff/entertainers out of the 40plus that were there.
We got downtown to go before the magistrate to get our fines/bail. My brother and I went first because of the severity of our crimes (assault, obstruction). We told the magistrate we did not mean to attack the officers, we were standing in the back hallway when 4 men who never identified themselve "broke into" our establishment! As it turned out they did not even have a warrent to search! they were coming by to see if we would submit to volentary search (we go through at least 2of these per year to keep our Liq. Lic.).
Not only were the charges dropped but because of the actions of the officers the state ALE office was hit with a harrassment charge from our establishment and a circut judge ordered that they could only do supervised and scheduled searches, with our lawyers present, for the next 12 months!
The morale of the story is:
Even though each Adult establishment has strict guidlines it has to follow - SO DOES LAW ENFORCEMENT!
I have traveled to at least 6 different cities for EUSA and make my first duty to not only learn the laws and regulations for the area I'm in but also to learn MY rights as a manager!

Well, bigeasy73, all I can say is, though you were definitely in the right, it sounds as though you were lucky it turned out that way. My experience with law enforcement has not been so--I was going to say "fortunate", but yours was only so in the end.
I am glad it turned out well in the end, and glad to see it looks like SW has gained a good example of a SC manager. We need more of you!
I am curious though, what does "EUSA" stand for?
For a while in Daytona the cops were stopping in to monitor us two-three times nightly, not raids, strictly speaking--but very much a harassment. They were trying to shut down Lollipops, the big new club which slipped by their new "Family--oriented" PR blitz and law enforcement policy. But in order to do so and remain "fair", they had to harass all the other clubs as well, which wound up hurting us way worse than Lollipops--which gleefully flaunted the laws and took all the business, and paid legal fees, etc. for the dancers.
The dancers had to wear booty shorts which grandma might feel good about on the beach, and most of the breast had to be lavishly covered with ridiculous tape. Lap dances had to be nothing of the sort. I worked in two clubs while this was going on, and it was a real pain in the ass. Not to mention I ran the risk of getting arrested as well for even thinking of trying to warn the dancers if I saw the cops coming in (several DJs and other male staff were elsewhere). I did it anyway, by simply saying "Good evening, gentlemen".
After about a year and a half of this, two clubs opened nude sections without alcohol, and the absurdity of enforcing "booty short" laws with naked women less than a block away made the problem vanish instantly. The city is now trying desperately to shut down these nude clubs, which never would have opened had it not been for their idiocy--without much success.
A while ago, the city, incensed that their ridiculous and imbecilic attempt to turn Daytona into a "Family" town was being thwarted, passed a "thong" law which made it illegal to wear a thong ANYWHERE in the city. I had just started at another club, Molly Brown's, whose owner has to have inherited his wealth, so moronic is his manner of running the place. We were bracing ourselves for new visits by cops.
HIS brilliant idea of a 'safe' way for me, the DJ, to warn the girls that the police were there was to have me say "Elvis to the dressing room". Fortunately for me and my criminal record, the police decided never to even try to enforce this ridiculous law, except in the case of fiendish biker sluts who dared to wear thongs while riding bikes on Main Street.

EUSA - Entertainment USA is the parant company for about 19 clubs across the country. It is owned by Steve Cooper. Most of our clubs are known as Christi's (formally Tiffany's) Cabaret. We have clubs in AZ,OH, TN,NC,WV, and everywhere else, hell we're getting ready to open one in las vegas and even SHANGHI,CHINA! if you can believe that.
As far as the legal issues:
1. Our owner believes you should not have to "warn"the staff and dancers that the cops are in the room if you are running the club properly but here in the REAL world we usually do it by playing a certian song. Land down under - by Men at work usually works well for me because it is a very distinctive song that most clubs don't play that much of anymore.
2. Thong Rule - Any gentelman's club is private property (just like your house). If your club does not charge for a private memebership it is public domain and therefor under the same decency laws as any public place (ie - bar, resturant). By inacting a $1.00 membership fee you can circumvent a lot of these "decency" laws. They can't tell you what to do, wear, or how to act in your own home. If they try the city or state can be taken to court on 1st amendmant.
3. if the police are coming in your club too much you can do what I did - I bought a log book and made the officers put there name badge # and time in /time out as well as the reason for thier visit. The officer will probably try to get out of doing this but all yo have to do is insist - it is your club and you have the right to know who is in there and why. A year after we started this we took the book to court with us and it really helped us win our harrasment case.
The only protection we have aganst the goverment and its agencys is information and the courage to use it. You can request the info at any locale library or city hall (state & city statutes/codes that govern us). They will always try to pass laws that restrict our freedom (in nightclubs & private lives), it is up to each of us to stand up and say "That's not right!" and push back when we are pushed.
I usually Chat Tues. & Wed. (only nights off) if you would like to know more.
I don't know if you'd call it a raid or not, but me and another girl got arrested by undercovers. Turns out later that it was all part of the local LE making a case against the management of the clubs. But, at this point in time, they were just trying to get girls in on whatever they could, legal or not, just to rack up the numbers. The reason I say legal or not was that the other girl had gotten propositioned by her UC and my UC tried to say I had committed prostitution! So, they take us into the dressing room and ask us to get dressed. At this point, I was still confused and thought that they meant just the other girl and not me...When I figured out they meant both of us, I got dressed, and made sure I had my cell on me, cuz the first person I called was my hubby. Needless to say, 9 hours in booking is NOT something I ever want to repeat, even if it was for bs.
Age is only important when it comes to wine and whiskey!
wow. christy., that sucks~~!!
did you get an attorney?
how did they claim that you comitted prostitution?
no good.. hate hillsborough county police, they truely don't care who you are/or what you do, any reason to possibly arrest... they are all over you!
i spent that much time in booking at orient county jail for something that was bull! The charges were thrown out and my record was expunged. GOOD LAYWER.
i guess he said that i was a smart ass later to one of the cops my man was friends with. IF I HAD THE CHANCE, i would have been even more of an ass!!
needless to say, my lawyer made him look like an ass.
have you heard the whole ordeal about the little girl that got arrested and cuffed (age 9) and sent into jail for hrs for rescuing a abused bunny from her neighbors? They said she stole the rabbit!!
cops are ridiculous here!!
