    Default Very bad knees..

I've had problems with my kness on and off but over the past few days I've developed a new pain. Both of my knees have a constant ache, I guess it's what arthritis feels like. My mom has really bad knees and will be needing a repalcement soon so I get this from her and dancing sure doesn't help. I'm a floor whore and spend alot of tome on stage on my knees!

I was told to try gluclosamine (god I miss spell check!). Has anyone ever tried that or a joint supplement of some kind?

God I'm starting to feel old!

Glucosamine does not have an AMA seal which means there is no medical scientific proof that it does what it claims to. Of course there are people who swear both ways about it. Try it, it couldn't hurt you.
Being that bad knees are a heredity factor start looking toward moving from the old floor routines. Nobody wants to end up with bad knees as a result of dancing.

Friggin computer keeps crashing, sorry. So if i seem off some (lol) it's because i have to reboot.

Hun, i was a stage dancer for many years. We had a lady who could no longer work on her knees, she was very clever, she then started floor work on her back or ass with her hands. Very sexy!

Crawling looks hot, but so does floor work with your ass and hands spreading legs, and back moves!

Good luck with the knees, maybe get a CT on them from a doctor and see whats going on.

Knee problems can also be because your hamstrings are not as strong as your quadriceps. This is very common. Lift weights and work both areas, but focus more on your hams.

I would also try to do less floorwork. I have the same problem, but it's not as severe now that I work less and do less floorwork. I have also spend some quality time with my hamstrings.

I don't know where I heard this, but I heard it the other day. Diet pills wreck your knees? I don't know if it was ephedra or not. Has anybody heard anything like this?

You have patelar femoral syndrome....VERy common in women. One of the main causes is from dancing in heels....hmmm, sound familiar?

I recommend that you go to a trainer to help you with your "form" when you dance. Its the same idea as when you lift weights...knees should not go past the ankle when bending, don't lock legs, prevent torquing, etc...

Strenghtening surrounding muscles will help...I had to REALLY work my leg muscles after knee surgery, which made the recovery quick.
DON'T use the machine where you put a bar under your shins and push the weight up, too hard on the knees.....

Use lots of icy hot on them and elevate at night...hope this helps!!!!

I jave no way of knowing if it will do any good, but I have good old arthur in the fingers and have have gotten some relief using CAPZASIN P which was recommended by my sister, a nurse. It is sold over the counter and is not extremely expensive. May be worth a try.

I've been using glucosamine for years and it helps alot. I notice more trouble with my knees when I run out and forget to buy more and get off it for a few days. My left hip also pops and 'catches' in a certain way sometimes, and that also worsens when I'm off glucosamine.

Get a glucosamine/chondrointin/msm combo at the store (500 mg of glucosamine per tablet). Take 3 (1500 mg total glucosamine) daily with your other vitamins, after your last meal or with milk before bed, for 1 month. After 1 month you could try only 2 (1000mg total glucosamine) daily. You should notice improvement after a month or two. If you forget to take them for a few days at a time like I occasionally do, go back to 3 for a while to build it back up in your system.

Of course I don't have arthritis and have no idea if this helps with arthritis. But I do have knee/hip problems and it helps me with that!

There's decent science on glucosamine combined with chondroitin. Both MD and chiropractor friends had recommended them to me, so I believed it anyway. But a quick search brought this up - - and I'm sure there's more.

I take glucosamine chondroitin, and it helps. I also take limited amounts of ibuprofen (Advil, Nuprin, whatever) as needed when I think there might be some inflammation kicking in.

Knee pain could be caused by any number of things - inflammation of various tissues, arthritic changes, degeneration, bruising, chondromalacia. Most of them are easily diagnosed. However, they're not always easily treated, because the knee is such a vulnerable target for wear, tear, and trauma. So take care of your knees now, as best you can, because you want to avoid future misery.

I am a huge advocate for glucosamine chondroitin supplements. I have posted before about this and if you want to hear the whole story just read previous posts. It was a miracle for me, as my knees got worse day by day. At 21 I was becoming crippled with pain. They worked for me and for many others I have talked to. Won't hurt you to give it try. Good luck!

Kobi, I'm definately in need of a trip to the gym! I've slacked this month due to the holidays and helping my mom clear out three generations of crap from her house and move. I usually work out 3 to 5 times a week but haven't been in a month!

About the ephedra, I am taking a decongestion perscirption for a sinus cold that has ephedra in it. My knees only started hurting like this since I started taking the medicine. I think there might be a conection.

    Hey Susan,

A few months back, I noticed acheing in the tendons around my knees. I posted on this board and a lot of the girls recommended glycosamine.

It started making a difference within a couple of weeks. I actually stopped taking it for the last two months. It took a while, but after my last snowboard run a few days ago, I really felt that I have to start taking them again.

I am a strong person, I have been working since I was 17 and I am 34 now. I think it is just wear and tear, dancing, high heels, snow sports...whatever. In any case, I so highly recommend it.

    Cheers and happy new year,

    Corey
