    Default Homework help

I know that this topic isn't stripper related, but I don't know where else to go. I figure that with all of the students and intelligent people on this site that maybe someone can help me out. I'm in a mushroom growing course and I just can't figure out the answer to one of my test questions. So if there are any biology, science, or botony people out there, please pm me. Otherwise, does anyone know an address to one of those homework help sites (especially science ones)? Thanks

Believe it or not, there is a mushroom museum in Kennett Square, PA, which is the home of the US industry. Look them up in the online yellow pages and call, I'm sure they can help you.

Thanks for the help FONDL, but it seems that the mushroom museum has been closed. So if anyone else can help me, I'm still in need.

It is kind of off thread, but the mushroom museum must have been in deep sh*t.
What is the question LL? Maybe someone knows the answer.

Q1. Indicate which is the genus, which is the species name in the following plant names:

    Agaricus
    biflorus
    Morchella
    esculenta

I think that maybe I just don't understand the way it's worded. Though I'm not positive that I'd know the answer even if I did know the question. Thanks again for the help.

Well, a genus contains one or more species (in taxonomy). Specifically, the genus Morchella contains the species esculenta. Agaricus is also a genus, I think. I can't tell what biflorus is, though, because there are a zillion different uses of the term. My guess would be that biflorus is a species within the Agaricus genus.

As near as I can tell morchella is a genus and esculenta is a species of Morchella (morel).
Since biflorus means two flowers it would probably be a species of Agaricus. My "altar boy" Latin is not so great but I think each of the four words is either a genus or a species. Try to google them as a string (surrounded by quotes) and I bet you will find only genus then species will work
"Morchella esculenta " is a real thing.

Cap is a faster typist than me. LOL

The cynical among us might note that the instructor appears to have capitalized the genus names and left the species names lowercase. That might even be "proper usage" in biology - it's been too long.

and monty - LOL! Altar-boy Latin! Got to be good for something after all, right?

et cum spiritu tuo (sp) which I seem to recall means "And with your spirit too", or "And with you too."

And Cap, do you think the teacher was too lazy to do anything more than copy and paste and put a carriage return in. LOL

if it is exactly as you typed it in. this may be a simple taxonimy question. remember Genus is always capitalized, and species is always lowercase for example Aminita virosa better known as the Destroying angel

also I am pretty sure that both Agaricus and Morchella are genuses, the later contains the morales that people go crazy for up north. biflorus is the species name for the domestic mushroom it has only 2 spores per basila or whatever the hell that is........

I think I got the answer. One of the members sent me a detailed email with the answer and the explaination as to how she came up with it. Not sure if the answer is correct though, I'm turning in the test today. Either way I appreciate everyone's help. Thanks a bunch, it was very nice to help me out on New Year's eve.
