    I have had braces for almost two years now. They are about to come off in March. The top brackets are clear and I am finding that people don't notice them until they are close to you. How long have you had yours? Mine were very painful at first but OK now. I haven't had any negative impact w/ them so far, if anything people think I am younger than I am. How is it going with you?

    I had braces for a year and a bit.
    They have been off for a year now.
    I danced while I had them.

    There is a girl where I work that has braces and even though she does not look really young, she looks cute with them. I guess it depends on the person.

    I too have had them for about a year now. Clear on both top and bottom. I was worried at first that it would negatively impact my earnings, but not at all. Not only that, but it's true, people think I am younger (am only 23 anyway, but still) and quite a few guys have even mentioned that it shows you take care of yourself, and use your money wisely. I have not had one single negative comment about them,,,in fact some guys seem to find it a common bonding point...like "Oh I had braces...aren't they annoying/ how long do you have to go?" etc.

    Not that I am not looking forward to having them off this year,,,but hey,

    Take care o' them pearly whites!

    Yea, I've been looking into getting the clear ones as well. I think they are called "Invisaline" or something like that. How much did they run you guys??

    ive got em, mine really hurt right now actually because my wisdon teeth are just now coming in and its irritating em real bad. but on a lighter note, i agree w/ Kennedy, on how it shows you take care of yourself, i think it also brings a sense of innocence (like when you're in junior high) that appeals to a lot of guys and makes em feel like little boys again, which isn't bad at all considering all that lunch money they'll throw your way

    I have been looking into invis-align(sp?). They are almost impossible to see and a boy I was in high school with had them and they really straightened his teeth nicely. The web site said you can get them for about 129$ a month but who knows how many years you'll be paying on them for. But I have an ortho appointment next month to discuss them.
    I read somewhere that teeth are very important in any job involving sales. People sub consciously look at teeth as a sign of trust. Straight white teeth give people a better feeling of security. So if youre trying to sell your image to customers you had better smile and have nice pearly whites.

    Invisalign is pretty expensive.....like $5000ish

    It does what braces does, but it doesn't whiten or fix unevenness in tooth shape, so you might have to spend more on bleaching and caps/veneers as well.

    But I think it's worth it.

    I've had my veneers for a month now and my income has improved enough that they will pay for themselves in a year.

    Don't shy away from Invisalign. They aren't necessarily that expensive. I just got mine off. Any orthodontist will give you a free consultation and let you know how much it will be and how long they will stay on. Also, clear brackets and Invisalign are two different things, so the best thing to do is get a consultation. If you do opt for traditional metal braces, many places offer different types, some with smaller brackets and little gems in the middle. I know a girl that has them and dances and she looks super sexy.

    Yes, don't shy away from Invisalign because of price. My regular braces were 5,000 dollars! My dental insurance wouldn't pay for them because I was an adult ! - to top it off, the ortho said I couldn't get Invisalign because my teeth were too crooked!
    I just couldn't win. Good luck!

    GOOD FOR YOU EMILY! I think its absolutely wonderful you got veeners.. They are so expensive though!! i think that is my next move! I was quoted 11k. Do you really see a huge difference in earning potential?

    i had braces 2 years ago, but i got them taken off 5 months after they went on. I had a dental cleaning and they were taken off for the day.. That weekend i moved away, and no more braces for me.. Shortly after i regretted it as my teeth began to shift back into place. Now my dental insurance only covers a percentage of braces the first time.
    I would rather spend the 11k on veneers and know they will look perfect, then spend 5 k on invisaline and then an additional 2 k for whitning services here and there.

    I have also heard that plastic surgery and cosmetic dentristy is much cheaper in costa rica with board certified surgeons.. web site is www.arrivacostarica.com
    like less then half prices!!
    But i truely wonder how safe it is.. Anyone know from experience?

    I think if you want veneers, you should do it. I do see a difference in my income. Not huge, but maybe $20-40 a night, but since I work about 300 nights a year, that pretty much adds up to what I paid in a year.

    I do get a ton of compliments on my smile. A lot of guys that see me on a semi-regular basis don't know that something is different, but just that I am looking great. And of course I smile a lot more, which is infectious. People warm up to those with an appealing smile.

    Here's a survey I found on the internet of American adults:
    More than 92% agree that an attractive smile is an important social asset;
    Nearly as many, close to 88%, say they always remember someone with an especially attractive smile;
    85% agree that an unattractive smile makes a person less appealing to people of the opposite sex;
    74% agree that an unattractive smile can hurt a person's chances for career success; yet
    Only 50% are satisfied with their smile.

    As for getting dental work in costa rica....I don't know. I've heard of this, but I'd be very weary. I've heard a bunch of horror stories about people having permanent tooth aches because their bie was misaligned.
