Default Need advice on how to get the good shift

I just got a job on the good shift at a new club a couple of months ago and I only went into work when I needed $$. I know that I was bumped down to the crappy shifts because I was viewed as being lazy and not coming in very often. How can I get back on good terms with management a.s.a.p.
I really hate working these crappy shifts. I don't know how to talk to these managers. I am used to working in offices. Bosses in offices are very different from strip club managers.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

First thing would be to start going in on a regular schedule. Show them you are interested in working regular shifts, and you will have an easier time. It's also better to work regular schedules anyway, as you will have more steady income from which you can save money.

When you go in to talk with them, just be nice. These guys are only human like anyone else. You are there for a job, and so are they. If you've been working regular shifts, point that out and point out the fact that you plan to continue to do so, and you'd appreciate a chance to prove yourself on the good shift again. I don't see that it should be much of a problem; I think you're mainly just a little weirded out because of the different environment.

I agree with Bridgette. The managers at strip clubs are people too, and not much different than managers in an office (except for all the naked girls ). :o Sounds like you are intimidated by them because of their position of "authority" and the fact that a lot of them are, in fact, sleazeballs (yet I've worked with just as many office managers who were just as big of sleazeballs as managers in strip clubs).

My experience has been to just start talking to them...find a few moments of down time when they are not busy to kind of hang out and tell them a little bit of what you're about (you know, those times you happen to see the manager just sitting there, kind of looking around...or else at the end of the night while waiting for people to leave). Talk to them about what you do outside the club, what your past non-dance experience is, and what your goals are for the future.

Asking them questions about their experience, both in this industry and otherwise is a good place to start (instead of walking up and saying "hi! let me tell you about ME" - you start out with them and lead the conversation naturally to you). Let them know you are not just some dumb dancer and tell them straight out that you are seriously interested in making yourself and the club a lot of money. The simple fact that you are able to communicate with them on their level will set you apart.

Do this and you'll be a favorite in no time. Avoiding speaking to them will perpetuate the distance you feel and will you will always be last on the list for good shifts, etc. Don't worry about other dancers thinking you are a kiss-ass...this is work, and you need to build a relationship with your managers.

    Hope this helps.

Is this new club a "corporate club" ? If so, dancers may find that, as always, being a '9' or '10' may get them hired immediately and scheduled on the most lucrative shifts. However, once the new dancer is working, "corporate" management then begins to take an interest in issues like the dancer showing up regularly, agreeing to work on slower nights as well as busy nights, agreeing to work full shifts versus coming and going whenever she feels like it, not causing "stressful situations" in the dressing room, ... i.e. whether or not the new dancer is an "asset" to the club versus a "prima donna".

At the same time, "corporate" management also begins to take note of how much financial contribution the new dancer is making to club income, i.e. how many private dances and champagne room trips she is selling per night from which the club collects a percentage.

All of these "corporate" factors stem from the straightforward analysis of the club's utilization of assets. The MBA's that run these corporate clubs recognize that their clubs have X slots available for dancers and that the club makes maximum profit when each girl in each of those slots is making a regular contribution to club income on every night she is scheduled. In the club business environment of years past, the "business magnet" effect of a dancer who is a '9' or '10' might have allowed club management to put up with "prima donna" syndromes in the interest of keeping up high standards of "eye candy". However, in today's club business environment there are few enough clubs offering dancers high earnings potential with acceptable mileage requirements that clubowners know they can find other girls who are also '9's or '10's but who will make a greater contribution to the club's bottom line by agreeing to work regularly, by actually showing up on the shifts they have scheduled, and by selling a higher than average number of private dances and champagne room trips (from which the club collects a percentage).

Francesca is exactly right in advising you that the way to get back into the club's good graces is to somehow communicate to them that you are not only interested in your own "selfish" ability to earn maximum money with minimum effort (which has now been hurt by the club booting you off the most lucrative shifts), but that you also understand that successful "corporate" clubs really amount to a partnership between the club and the dancers and that you are now prepared to hold up your end of that partnership i.e. willing to work several nights per week, actually showing up on every night that you schedule, and willing to make a significant effort to sell as many private dances and champagne room trips as possible no matter what club customers expect of you in order to make the sale.

Granted there are many dancers who are not really willing to make the commitments in the way of time and effort which these "corporate" clubs expect. There ARE other clubs out there which still place their emphasis on "eye candy" and who will still tolerate "prima donna's" in order to support their "upscale show club" reputations even though many of these girls are only willing to work certain hours on certain shifts. But these "upscale show clubs" also operate on a different business model than the "corporate" clubs, i.e. collecting large stage fees from dancers but not collecting percentages from private dances, meaning that club income is much less affected when an individual dancer decides to come in late or leave early. or when an individual dancer isn't making much of an effort to sell private dances and champagne room trips.

However, with the proliferation of anti-dance club laws and poor club business, there are now many many dancers who are willing to travel to seek to work in these "upscale show clubs", making it very difficult for a girl to be hired in one of these clubs today if she is less than a '10'. The "upscale show clubs" also tend to overbook dancers on the presumption that at any given time on any given night a certain percentage of girls won't be there. In a slow economy this can lead to lots more girls actually showing up, reducing the ratio of customers per dancer, and in turn reducing earnings potential for every dancer (but without hurting show club income since every dancer is still charged the high stage fee regardless of how much money they can actually expect to earn).

Getting a good shift may not be as important as working the same shifts every week, depending on your club. I know two girls who only work weekday afternoons and do very well because they always work the same days and as a result have built up a group of regular customers who come in every week to see them. They make plenty of $$$ and don't have to work nearly as hard as the girls who work nights. But it may take you awhile to get to that point.
