    Default Growing some balls....finally

Today I was going to try and add on for the 2-8 shift, I really need it as I've been sick all week, and snowed in the week before. Then I realized, why settle? I've been at this club for almost a year now, I've worked days, dull as can be weeknights, and even come in days when all the other girls bailed. I've worked incredibly long shifts so there would still be girls until night shift girls decided to show up. I've earned my keep damnit!

So today, I'm going to have a chat with the owner. According to a certain manager who doesn't like me (I'm not his type, and don't hold him up as some sort of deity) I'm not allowed to work Thurs-Sat night per the owners orders. Now, I've done a lot of favors for the owner, arranging horseback rides for him and girls from the club. He seems to like me as much as an owner likes his dancers. In fact, after a breif hiatus he asked where I had been. Now, I strongly doubt, that having three clubs, he can put enough names to faces to go through all three rosters and dictate who works when. However, that's what said manager claims.

Now all I have to do, is muster up some courage, and call the man. Ask him if, "just this once" I can work the weekend because I really need the money. I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble, but it might be fun. Especially if he's killing my money. I'm off to write down everything I want to say, and to rustle up my calm, collected professionalism. Wish me luck!

Go for it. If he wont let you, and I don't see why not, maybe you could work at another club just on weekends if you don't want to leave this one. But girls not showing up on time, you being the one to schedule things for the manager, this sounds like the club isn't being run very well anyway.

It never hurts to try! Go for it. That's why we are dancers-to have flexible shifts...

Unfortunately there are bad managers out there (I know it's it's a shock and you probably think I'm kidding). I have worked in every position in an adult nightclub(yes,I was even a male dancer but that was long ago). and I have found out that just as it's a managers job to train a new or so-so entertainer to be a better entertainer that it also fall upon entertainers (and bar staff) to help a poor manager become better. If he/she will not let you work a specific shift, then ask him/her why. It is not only you right but your responsibility to find out what it is that he/she is seeing or not seeing that is holding you back. Sometimes you have to help him/her give you the feedback you need to be the best asset to your club.
If he/she has a hair on his ass or half a brain he will tell you exactly what and where the problem is.
If he/she can not or will not the it is again your right and responsibility to tell the GM or owner. If he/she is playing favorites or excercising thier personal GOD complex the it falls upon you to not only protect yourself but to protect all the other staff/entertainers that this person is abusing. I used to tell all my guys in the ARMY that a leader should always be able to explain thier decisions, and that if the couldn't then he was making the wrong one. That little rule got me out of Somalia and I still use it in management today.
On the other hand - If there is a weight problem or a style problem or even an experience problem YOU have to be open to this managers feedback and work toward the goals the club sets for you.

Managers are hired to ensure the club and each employee makes as much money as possible so it would not be in the managers best interest to hold you back for no good reason (one he can share with you and the club owner).
You HAVE to bring this up! You HAVE to demand an explaination on why he won't let you work. It is hurting YOUR MONEY and if he is taking out a personel issue with you it is hurting YOUR CLUB by not having you there as much as possible.
I'm a manager and I know if an employee thought I was making a poor decision I would want them to ask me.
Please let me know how this turns out - maybe I can help or at least help you see things from a managment point of view.

Way to go, Smurfy. This is exactly what you and I talked about in Chat last week and now you're going to do it. I'm wishing you all the luck in the world.

One suggestion for you. I think talking with him in person would be better. I don't know if that's possible, but maybe you could ask him out for coffee. After all, he had time to do the horseback riding with you. In person he'll be able to read your emotions and see how important this is to you. It will also take a little longer so you can butter him up a little before you get into the issue. Just tell him on the phone, "I'd like to buy you a cup of coffee and talk with you about something at the club that will help both of us. When are you around so we can do this?" Just a thought for you, but my impression is you'll do better in person, especially when he sees how cute and smart you are. And also, the stronger a friendship you have with him, the less the manager can tamper with you.
